ΚΕΝΤΡΟ ΞΕΝΩΝ ΓΛΩΣΣΩΝ NEW SUCCESS The Students JournalΠ. ΛΟΥΚΙΔΟΥ—ΜΠΟΥΡΝΤΑPage 8Summer camps are a really nice place to spend your summer holidays. First, you can make newfriends by meeting new people who stay in the same tent as you. Secondly, you can do activitieslike hose riding which is interesting, climbing which is exciting and riding a bike which keeps youfit. Of course, you can also go swimming in the pool or sea which is great fun. Also you can spend your nights dancing, singing and generally having a lot of fun. Another thingthat is awesome in camps are the special festivals like the Colour Day Festival, the Water FightFestival, the Treasure Hunt Festival and many more. Some of the best campsites are: Yuppi, Elaiones, happy Days, Alexandra and Glaroi.Kyriakos Pitsoulis I think that you must go camping because it is much better than staying at home. I personally go camping every year and we do lots of activities like cycling, drawing, swimming, playing football and basketball, watching horror and funny videos and many others. One of the best campsites I have been to is “Glaroi” because there are lots activities to do there. There are many festivals and lots of games to play there like the Flying Fox or the Food Festival. When you play the Flying Fox, you climb on a tree and then you jump tied on a rope. At the Food Festival you can try many different dishes and you can even have tattoos made. In my opinion, the best campsites in Thessaloniki are: Elaiones, Pizzas Campsite, Glaroi and Happy Days. You should definitely go camping this year! ΚΕΝΤΡΟ ΞΕΝΩΝ ΓΛΩΣΣΩΝ NEW SUCCESS The Students JournalΠ. ΛΟΥΚΙΔΟΥ—ΜΠΟΥΡΝΤΑPage 19 General InformationOlympic Games or Olympics are held every four years and are the leading internationalsporting event featuring summer and winter sports , in which thousands of athletes fromaround the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are con-sidered to be the world's first ever sports competition with more than 200 nations partici-pating. This year’s motto is : ‘’Live your passion’’ The Ancient Olympic GamesThe Olympic Games are actually the evolution of the Ancient Olympic Games which wereheld in Olympia, Greece in honor of Zeus. The games were always heldat Olympia rather than alternating to different locations as is the tradition with the mod-ern games. What’s more, the ancient Olympics had fewer events than the modern games, and only Greek men were allowed to participate. The Olympic Flame The Olympic flame is a symbol of the Olympic Games. Commemorating the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus, its origins lie in ancient Greece, where a fire was kept burning throughout the celebration of the ancient Olympics. The fire was introduced at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, and it has been part of the modern Olympic Games ever since. Orestis CharbisSupervising Teacher: Tsiouka EleonoraClass: Pre-Lower 2

Athanasios Diakos was a Greek military commander during the Greek War of Independence, considered a national hero in Greece. Athanasios Diakos was Thief (They lived in the countryside when Greece was a part of the Ottoman Empire and they changed weapons with Armatolous) from an early age. When Vryonis caught Diakos he offered to make him an officer in the Ottoman Army but he refused and then he said: “I was born a Greek, I shall die a Greek”. The next day he was impaled. Ac- cording to popular tradition, as he was being led away to de executed, he said: “Look at the time Charon chose to take me, now that the branches are flowering and the earth sends forth grass”.
