The Moscow United Methodist Church126 Church Street Office Phone: 570-842-7251Moscow, PA 18444 e-newsletter August 17, 2017Moscow Country Street Fair 2017 Aug 4-6 saw thousands of people walk through Moscow at the 2nd annual Country Street Fair. Some stopped by Friday night to hear MUMC’s bell choir give a beautiful concert. Many stopped into the fellowship hall Friday through Sunday to see the awesome Art Show that was put together by Rev. Sarah Miller and friends. Several church members as well as community and local artists displayed a variety of art for all to enjoy. Approximately $1200 in original art pieces were sold and a commission of $296 was given to MUMC to help support youth ministries. Thank you to Sarah and Hugh Miller, Sharon Campbell, Lori Reigal, Ray Roese and artists, and all who helped make this a showcase event for the Moscow Country Street Fair and a wonderful ministry support to our church! In addition to the art show, MUMC’s youth group held a carwash fundraiser on Saturday in our church parking lot which raised over $150 to support youth group mission work, and MUMC’s young bell choir friends hosted games and fun on Spring Garden Street, raising over $60 for MUMC’s bell choir funds. Sunday at 3 pm, Ellen Golenbeski, offered an amazing organ recital. Earlier that day, Rita Egner’s great-granddaughter, Sabrian, sang at the talent show.

Vacation Bible School News July 23 through 29, fifteen MUMC children & youth from 7 seven families and Pastor Jean had a great time at the Harvest Sun Country Fair Vacation Bible School where they joined with children, youth and pastors from 6 other area churches for a week of country fun. We learned about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Joy, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness and Self-control!) through song, art, games, music, Bible stories and drama. Three adult teachers and 1 youth helper were from MUMC! Not only that but together we had a mission of helping to help stock up the North Pocono Dry Goods Pantry. Thank you!!

MUMC Nursery News Another renovation this summer has been in MUMC’s nursery, located on the lower level of the education wing. The nursery has a long history of nurturing young disciples in faith. Long time and beloved nursery director, Betty Koss, retired this past spring for health reasons. Gayle Simpkins offered to serve as a temporary nursery coordinator over the summer to help us transition in Betty’s absence. Gayle and the Wednesday morning crew have been busy this summer, cleaning, painting and renovating the nursery. A new door to the children’s bathroom was installed to make it easier for nursery volunteers to care for our young ones. Thank you to all who helped!! We are currently seeking a permanent nursery coordinator to work 1-2 hours a week, including Sunday mornings, making sure all runs smoothly in the nursery, helping nursery volunteers in their role of supervising young children, and ensuring our nursery ministry provides our youngest church members with a loving, nurturing Christian atmosphere in which they can grow in God’s love. If you know of someone who might be a good nursery coordinator or if you wish to volunteer in the nursery once in a while on Sunday mornings, please call Gayle Simpkins at 570-848-3812, Pastor Jean 570-878-6069 or the church office 570-842-7251 or [email protected].
