["DIGISCHOOLS 2021-1-RO01-KA220-SCH-000023611 PEDAGOGICAL EVALUATION","Preamble Education can play a fundamental role in creating more just and inclusive European societies. In order to achieve this goal, educational systems must be equitable. In other words, they must ensure that all young people are able to develop their talents and reach their full potential regardless of their background. However, socioeconomic context remains a strong determinant of students' academic performance: underachievement, early school leaving, and social exclusion still pose very real threats to some students. The crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the need to improve equity in education, as the shift to distance learning and reduced class time presented additional challenges for disadvantaged students, potentially exacerbating existing inequalities. Adapted from the Eurydice Report, Equity in School Education in Europe.opa ...","We live in times of transformation and innovation. Today, it is impossible to talk about Education without taking into consideration the paradigm shift in the field of education and training resulting from economic, social, environmental, political, and technological changes at different levels (regional, national, European, and global) and the demands triggered by phenomena such as "Globalization," "Internet of Things (IoT)," "Information Society," and "Digital Natives," which imply the development of several skills. It is in this context that the need arises to create educational environments that facilitate and enhance the development of multiple literacies in students, enabling them to respond to the demands and challenges resulting from the rapid evolution at scientific and technological levels throughout their lives.","Pedagogical assessment plays a relevant role in supporting the development of multiple literacies and students' learning. It aims to overcome/minimize difficulties and enhance their critical, creative, collaborative, resilient, and solidarity spirit, among others. In a strongly digital context, assessment can also take place in face-to-face, virtual, or hybrid environments. Regardless of the educational setting in which it takes place, assessment should be considered as an integral part of the teaching and learning process and its role in its structuring is important. Instruments that are used in-person may not be effective and reliable remotely, and vice versa. Thus, assessing is more than measuring; it means assigning value whether in person or at a distance, and should serve as a means to support learning and, consequently, the inclusion of all students, and should not be a means of exclusion and discrimination." João Costa, Secretary of State for Education, 22/05/2020 In the eventuality of needing to resort to distance education again and, consequently, its respective pedagogical assessment, we share some principles to be taken into consideration: ASSESSMENT FOR IMPROVING LEARNING Assessment should be an integrated process in the curriculum development, with the central objective of helping students to learn better, particularly by providing them with quality feedback. The involvement of students in assessment enhances awareness of their learning, how they acquire it, and promotes autonomy and reflective capacity. To develop autonomy and self-regulation, clear and simple instructions must be provided about the objectives to be achieved, with challenging yet concrete and meaningful tasks, the resources to be used, check-in moments, and deadlines to be met.","DEVELOPMENT OF THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS: MONITORING, ADJUSTING, AND CHECKING IN Monitoring and adjusting the development of teaching and learning: Providing information involves giving feedback to the student about their performance. This feedback should be explicit, clear, and guiding, giving clear instructions about both positive aspects and areas for improvement. Checking in: Whenever we assess, we must take into consideration that: a) not all students have equal access to digital resources, so differentiation of tasks may be necessary; b) not all students learn in the same way; c) assessment should focus only on the work that was planned and developed by the students; d) tasks should have different levels of complexity. SUPPORTS FOR ASSESSMENT AND LEARNING Videoconferencing Video Chat and Forums Interactive Games (gamification) For students with difficulty accessing computer resources, communication is typically deferred. In this context, telephone contact can be a preferred means as it allows for monitoring and adjusting task completion, conducting check-ins, or supplementing written feedback.","DIVERSIFYING AND ADAPTING DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURES TO THE CURRICULUM, METHODOLOGIES, AND STUDENTS For greater reliability in the assessment process, different data collection processes should be combined: a) Portfolio and e-Portfolio; b) Rubrics; c) Video recording; d) Questionnaires; e) Oral participation; g) Digital narratives DECIDING BASED ON DIVERSE PROCEDURES AND TECHNIQUES Evaluating the same learning at different times using different assessment tools allows for a better assessment of the student's progress. Different actors to consolidate value judgments (grading): Using peer assessment (heteroassessment), discussing assessment results with students, and triangulating assessment data with other teachers of the same student can be a crucial support for effective evaluation. "Adapted from Guiding Principles for Pedagogical Evaluation in Distance Learning (E@D), Directorate-General of Education" - Portugal (1) Rubrics - Brookhart, S. (2012). How to create and use rubrics for formative assessment and grading. Alexandria, VA: ASCD","Being a teacher today is not only highly challenging but also carries an enormous responsibility because "Education is a social process, it is development. It is not preparation for life, it is life itself." John Dewey","PROJECT RESULT OF KA220 2021-1-RO01-KA220-SCH-000023611 Cooperation partnerships in school education Funded by the European Union. Since this process introduced distance education in an unplanned manner, it was also called "Emergency Distance Education".  One of the biggest problems experienced in the distance education process was undoubtedly the exams, which are called as measurement and evaluation, in which students' learning is evaluated.  Many people claimed that the online assessment and evaluation process is difficult, so this cannot be done in distance education, but there are solutions for this.","What is Measurement and Evaluation?  It is the observation of any attribute and the expression of the result of observation with numbers or other symbols.  Assigning numbers or symbols to objects according to the degree to which they have certain properties can be called measurement. It is not the individuals/objects that are taken into account in the measurement but their characteristics.  In other words: It is the expression of observation results with numbers or symbols by observing a variable.","Formative Evaluation in Education (1) As you know, there are Diagnostic, Formative and Summative assessment types. In the educational environment, the type of assessment in general has been the Leveler Assessment type, which is also a grade concern. Of course, this type of assessment is important to get a printout and to give feedback to the student such as passed, failed, successful or unsuccessful, but the most important factor affecting these outcomes is the student's actions in the process and their evaluation. In other words, it is not fair to call a student whose process is not evaluated as unsuccessful at the end of the process.","Formative Evaluation in Education (2) For this reason, Formative Assessment has a very important point in the learning process. Formative Assessment is a type of assessment that is generally used to identify the points that the student does not understand and to guide them while the process continues.
