Guided Walking Holidays Group Sizes Our guided walking holidays are ideal for groups of friends who enjoy walking as well as more formal walking clubs that wish to explore further afield. Guided walking holidays are generally available for groups of between 4 and 24 people. The type of accommodation used and the price of the holiday will depend on the number in the group. We like to use smaller, more informal guest houses, where possible for our holidays, but this won’t be feasible with larger groups. The price of the holiday is dependent on the number of people in your party and prices on our website are given as a guide to probable costs. Please contact us if you would like further information or a price for your group. Guides Our bilingual guides will make sure you make the most of your holiday through professional, informative & supportive leadership. As well as ensuring safe progression, the leader will bring to life the region, through their passion and knowledge on such subjects as history, geology, food and wine. We only use experienced guides that are resident in the country. The guide will pace the day so that there will be plenty of time to take photos, relax and soak up the atmosphere. Flexibility Flexibility around local situations or circumstances by changing the itinerary where appropriate. For example if the weather was very wet and everyone agreed that they did not want to do the day's walk, the guide can provide transport to a location to look around an abbey or castle. Your guide can also help in terms of under- standing the best routes for the group’s interests and abilities. Most of our guided walking holidays can be arranged to start on any day of week within the periods detailed, subject to availability. Tailor-Made All our guided walking holidays are to some extent tailor-made to suit you and your group's requirements. The guided walking holidays are adapted to suit your group's abilities, interest and size. Although there are many guided walking holidays detailed in this brochure, if there are particular options or changes you are looking for, please contact us to discuss. Destinations We have assembled a range of walks to suit all abilities & tastes from relatively gentle strolls through vine covered slopes of the Jura and the Beaujolais in France to more challenging mountain walks in the alpine heights of the Vanoise National Park. We also have a number of guided holiday destinations which are not cov- ered by our brochure. These include the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert in Morocco and the Picos de Europa in Spain. Travel Options Our guided walking holidays in France have pick ups from various airports or train stations such as Lyon for our Beaujolais & Burgun- dy holidays & Toulouse for our holiday in the Tarn. Pick up and transfers from other locations may be possible for some holidays, but may be subject to a supplement. For more details about practical flights for each guided walking holiday, please visit our web site or contact us for more information. We can also provide you with details of secure locations to park your car if you wish to drive. 6

Often referred to as the local Tuscany, it’s covered by our Medieval Village Tours and visited on our Chateaux & Medieval Villages wine trail as well as our Beautiful Beaujolais Trail, which is featured to the right. Beaujolais is of course most famous for its vibrant fruity red wines made from Gamay Noir grapes and divided into 12 appellations. The South has gentler hills where limestone produces younger and lighter wines, whilst to the north, granite slopes produce fuller bodied wines designated as 10 grand crus. You’ll get to sample these wines at your guest houses on our two Beaujolais wine trails which cross the area: In the south our Beaujolais Wine Trail: Chateaux & Medieval Villages and in the north: Beaujolais Wine Trail: Grand Crus. -Provence & Mediterranean- The Provence conjures up images of lavender fields, olive groves and pretty villages under clear blue skies. In addition to these evocative scenes, the Provence offers a wide variety of walking and holiday experiences. Along the Mediterranean Coast, discover 3 unique regions: Our Pyrenees Coastal Trail forges a way along the Catalan Coast between the mighty Pyrenees and the Med stopping overnight at pretty fishing villages, whilst our Costa Brava walk continues south into Spain around stunning headlands and through historic villag- es. Further east the Calanques National Park consists of spectacular white cliffs and narrow inlets reminiscent of the fjords of Norway. Les Baronnies is our little secret, which never fails to impress. A patchwork of lavender and thyme fields are framed by dramatic cliffs and ridges. You can choose between a circular tour or a centre-based holiday in this unspoilt and remote region with plenty of wildlife interest. South of Baronnies is the Luberon, a more well-known region. You can choose between a week-long, easy walk or a longer 12-night trail. Both walks pass be- tween quintessential historic Luberon villages, such as Gordes, Bonnieux and Roussillon, with the longer trail getting well off the beaten track. Closer to the Rhone Valley is our Cote du Rhone Wine Trail which goes through some of the most famous wine regions of the area as well as circling the dramatic rock fins of Dentelles de Montmirail. Other dramatic rocky bluffs are to be found in the Alpilles close to Avignon and Arles where you’ll discover the landscapes and villages made famous by Van Gogh. Lastly the Drome Provencale is an area further north where you’ll literally walk into Provence as the vegetation changes before your eyes. Views of the Pre-Alps accompany your journey south, passing pretty villages and varied landscapes. The GR10 is a wonderful and dramatic trek along the entire length of the Pyrenees covering over 400km of trail that are often strenuous. Luggage transfers and rooms for 2 are included where possible. The first section of the trail through the Basque country is much easier than the other sections and is a beautiful walk in its own right. Our Traverse of the Pyrenees National Park is also an easier option than the GR10 holidays and allows you to discover the must-see sights in the high French Pyrenees. The Azun is a luminous valley in the Western Pyrenees where our holiday follows balco- ny trails where you’ll marvel at wonderful panoramas and well preserved mountain villages. The Cerdagne, located in Eastern Pyrenees, is a plateau lying at 2000m which offers expansive views and enjoys a sunny climate where you can enjoy natural warm springs. -South West France- South West France is synonymous with great food and wine, encom- passing such classic produce as Bordeaux wine, fois gras and truffles. Our walking holidays in the region cover the Dordogne and Lot Valley, the Tarn and Aveyron, and Bordeaux. Our Delights of Historic Dordogne holiday follows the Dordogne valley which is lined with historic villages and chateaux. Our Easy walk passes through one picturesque village after another, including La Roque Gageac, built into sandstone cliffs along with a troglodyte fort, and Sarlat, which is famous for its medieval architecture and lively street market. Further north, in a less well-known part of Dordogne is our Villages of Correze walk which passes through pretty countryside and the historic villages of Turenne, Collonges-la-Rouge and Curemont. South of Dordogne are the Lot and Cele Valleys which are the locations of our Serene Lot Valley trail. The walk follows quiet paths between Figeac and Cahors through unspoilt countryside with wonderful chateaux and historic villages. The Bordeaux wine region is one of the most famous in the world. Our Bordeaux Wine Trail walking holiday traverses some of the most famous vineyards. -Massif Central- The heart of southern France is made up of one vast upland region the size of Scotland, known as the Massif Central. It is separated from the Alps by the Rhone Valley and contains a variety of landscapes resulting from its varied geology. A large proportion of this upland region has been designated as regional and national parks. The Auvergne lies in the west of the Massif Central and contains dramatic volcanic peaks dominating open plateaux and secluded valleys. In the Northern Auvergne we have 2 self-guided holidays, one is a centre-based trip - Amazing Auvergne - which explores a wide area including rugged peaks such as Puy de Sancy, the perfectly preserved volcanic cones of the Chain des Puys, lakes, waterfalls, historic villages and much more. We also have a circular trail which explores the Puy de Sancy mountain and surrounding area in more detail: Summit of Auvergne - Tour of Sancy. Further south lies the Cantal Massif, which is the extinct remains of a huge volcano. Erosion has since created a series of rugged ridges, rocky peaks and green valleys of stunning beauty. Our centre-based holiday which is called Cantal Mountains, the Rugged Heart of France offers exciting walking in an untamed landscape with rich wildlife. A different walking experience, but still within Auvergne, can be experi- enced on our Tranquil Auvergne Trail in the Haute Loire. Starting & finishing at Puy en Velay, the world heritage town, this walking tour explores an upland plateau landscape in the southern Auvergne punctuated with intimate valleys and volcanic domes. Further south we have two more holidays in 2 rugged & sometimes wild parts of France. Our Tour of Ardeche-Rustic Trails takes a loop through the Ardeche Regional Park & includes wonderful heather-clad mountains with great panoramic views; pretty chestnut forests; beautiful rivers, where it's possible to bathe, and sun parched, vine covered slopes. Finally, our holiday in the Cevennes travels south through a mixture of lime- stone plateaux and amazing gorges such as the Tarn to reach Provence. The Emerald Coast has some of Brittany’s most impressive coastline, with rocky headlands jutting into the sea, backed by a landscape of gorse and heather, with numerous small beaches and villages, and several fascinating historical towns such as St Malo. The highlight in terms of dramatic scenery is the headland at Cap Frehel, with its dramatic cliffs. The Granite Coast is a beautiful coastline where pink granite blocks contrast with turquoise seas and fine sandy beaches. The GR34 or sentier de douani- ers, a former coastguard footpath, winds among fantastically shaped rocks interspersed with countless rock pools, sandy coves and stunning views. We also have 2 self-guided walk- ing holidays on the Catalan coast, bordering the Pyrenees and in Costa Brava which are detailed in our Provence and Med section on page 32. Andalucia is a large autonomous region of southern Spain which includes much of Spain's southern Mediterranean Coast and the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. It was under Moorish rule from the 8th-15th centuries, a legacy that shows in its beautiful architecture. Our Alpujarras Valley Walk lies within the Sierra Nevada National Park in central Andalucia and is a beautiful destination for a warm weather walk- ing holiday in Spring or Autumn. It is designed to give you a taster of the region. The choice of walks on most days allow walkers of different abili- ties to enjoy the area. A visit to this part of Andalucia in Spain would not be complete without a trip to the amazing Alhambra palace in Granada. The Grazalema National Park is a stunning location for a self-guided walk- ing holiday with spectacular limestone and dolomite crags that rise dra- matically above beautiful gorges, the most spectacular being the Garganta Verde, 'Green Throat'.
