Kirovo-Chepetsk Kirovo-Chepetsk is a small provincial town of the Kirov region. It is situated on the left bank of the Vyatka river. It was founded in the mid- 15th century as the village of Ust-Cheptsa. And how clever those people were who had chosen this place for their settlement! It is a place where another river the Cheptsa falls into the Vyatka. It was built in 1955. Many blocks of flat have been built since 1955 when the village was named the town. The population of Kirovo-Chepetsk is about 80 000 people. Kirovo-Chepetsk is a very green town with a lot of different trees and forests around it. Here you can find a lot of remarkable places. It is the birthplace of many outstanding people, such as sportsmen, artists, writers and poets. Our town is not big but there are some interesting places where you can relax and have a good time. 3

The Alley along Pervomayskaya Street This alley runs from the building of the town administration to the Peace Avenue. In summer a lot of residents of the town spend their leisure time because comfortable benches and beautiful flowerbeds, street lights make rest very pleasant. In winter citizens enjoy different coulourful snow sculptures. Near this alley there is the central square of our town. All the festivals are held there. A big Christmas tree is decorated in winter in this square. Children have a lot of fun tobogganing. This is a great place for all family. 4

All the Saints’ Cathedral All the Saints’ Cathedral is the biggest Orthodox Church in Kirovo- Chepetsk. It was founded in the year of the Millennium of the Baptism of Russia. It is a two-storey building. It has got 11 domes, the main dome is 35 metres high. The Cathedral stands on a small hill with a beautiful view of the city and the river Vyatka. The Sunday school was opened in the early nineties in this Church. 5

The Art School Children's art school of Kirovo-Chepetsk was opened in 1953. It has got a concert hall for 600 seats. There is training in four departments: a musical (piano, violin, cello, domra, balalaika, accordion), choral, choreographic and General aesthetic education Department. It gives a pre-professional education: a professional orientation of students, the preparation of students for admission to secondary and higher special educational institutions. 6

The Bakery The Kirovo-Chepetsk bakery is one of the oldest factories of the Kirov region. It was founded in 1952. At the beginning the factory was small. The town was growing, so its production was growing too. Nowadays the bakery releases high-quality and tasty production from bread and cakes to other kinds of confectionary. Citizens like its production because it is not only tasty but it is made of natural products. 7

The Chemical Plant Kirovo-Chepetsk is known as an industrial town. The Chemical Plant is one of the biggest plants not only in Russia but in Europe too. It is situated 15 km from Kirovo-Chepetsk. It was built in 1938 to produce phosphorus. In 1951, the company developed the creation of thermonuclear weapons. It was named after B.P.Konstantinov, a scientist-physicist. Now it is famous for producing more 10 different kinds of fertilizer. 8

The Children’s Art School The town Council founded children's art school in 1968. It was named in honour of his first director L.T. Brylin. In 1987 it moved to a new building. Children from 7 to 17 years are taught in the school. The school has 12 teachers. Children are taught to draw, paint and make figures with clay. 9

The Cinema Lumiere In Kirovo-Chepetsk there is a cinema called Lumiere. It is the most popular cinema in our town. The cinema is located on the bank of the river. There you can not only watch different films and cartoons but also you can eat at a café, play with friends on the machines. This place is very popular especially with kids. It is a cool place to have a great time for all. 10

The Dairy Plant Dairy production in Kirovo-Chepetsk started in the 1960s. Small capacities of the enterprise could not satisfy the demand of the growing population of the town. So in 1963 the decision to build a dairy plant was made. From that moment, the history of the dairy plant began. Nowadays the Dairy Plant is a diversified enterprise that combines the production of dairy products, such as milk, yoghurt, butter, cheese. It is one of the leading manufacturers of dairy products in the area. Every year the enterprise takes part in the competition “100 best goods of Russia”. It got a lot of prizes, diplomas, medals and titles in different exhibitions. That proves high quality of its production. 11

The House of Culture “Friendship” The House of Culture “Friendship” was opened in 1952, but in 1961it was called “Friendship”. The House of Culture is situated in the center of amateur artistic creativity of residents of the town and it is the main concert venue. Every year more than 300 events are held here. People attend concerts for different holidays. The House of Culture constantly holds its own events. It organises a lot of town events, such as Town Day, Victory Day, New Year, different festivals, competitions, concerts. It is a place for education of children and the youth. A great number of clubs, such as Drama club, Dance club, Singing club, work here. The House of Culture “Friendship”is a modern multifunctional complex with a stylish interior, where everything is thought out to the smallest detail. 12

The House of Culture \"Yantar\" The House of Culture \"Yantar\" was founded in 1985. It was built as a center of creativity for city builders. Thanks to the talented Leningrad sculptor Anatoly Alekseevich Kiselev, the first fountain appeared in front of this building with the extraordinary sculptural composition in the middle of the fountain. This composition is called “Confluence of the rivers”. It represents two naked girls whose hands are intertwined. They symbolize two rivers that blend their waters near our town – the Cheptsa and the Vyatka. A great creative team worked here. 13

The House “on chicken legs” This house is experimental. It has two-storey apartments. The house is striking with its supports, like the chicken legs of fabulous Baba Yaga. It has the only entrance, two elevators with four buttons in the cabins, two- level apartments with stairs, numerous windows, technical floors. It was built on a single project of the St. Petersburg scientific Institute. 14

The Ice Palace \"Olymp-Arena\" The Ice Palace \"Olymp-Arena\" is the palace of sports. In the palace there is a skating rink, a tennis court, a fight ring. The Ice Palace is located in the Kirov region, the town of Kirovo – Chepetsk. The construction of this building took 18 years and 231 million rubles were spent. There are 1700 seats. The building has special ramps for wheelchair users. The Ice Palace was opened on November 20th, 2010. Different sportive events for professionals and amateurs of any level are held there. In the Ice Palace you can have a good time with your family. 15

The Memorial Complex with the Eternal Flame There is a beautiful place in the city of Kirovo-Chepetsk of the Kirov region. It is situated in a steep bank of Vyatka, where on May 9, 1975 a memorial complex with the Eternal Flame was opened in memory of soldiers-compatriots who had died in the Great Patriotic War. The Eternal fire was brought to Kirovo-Chepetsk from the legendary Mamayev Kurgan Five broad steps lead to the memorial, each of which symbolizes the year of war. 16

The Power Station Kirovo-Chepetsk power station was built in March 1924 in the village of Ust-Cheptsa. It was built in honour of Lenin. It used peat to produce electricity in houses of Chepetsk. It was one of the biggest power station in the Kirov region. Nowadays it generates electricity using gas. The staff is 408 people. . 17

The Stella In the entrance of our town you can see the monument of the Stella which represents the young couple holding a board with the image of chemical signs. It’s 20 metres high. The creators of this monument wanted to know Kirovo-Chepetsk as a town of young specialists – chemists. This monument is the symbol of chemistry which has huge value for the town. 18

The Tank After World War II and military operations in Afghanistan, military monuments appeared in many cities of the country. This town of Kirovo- Chepetsk isn’t an exception. The tank greets guests of the town right at the crossing of Kirov Avenue and Gorky Street. This place was chosen in 2007 for the construction of this monument in honor of all who were killed during military actions. On the granite slabs near this monument you can read the names of 14 residents of Kirovo-Chepetsk who were directly involved in the military operation in Afghanistan. Several times a year memory meetings are held in this place. 19

The Vyatka Embankment It’s one of the favourite places of citizens of Kirovo-Chepetsk. It is spread from the main square of Kirovo-Chepetsk to All the Saint’s Cathedral. Here you can admire a stunning view to two rivers: the Vyatka and the Cheptsa. It’s a great place for all the family. You can stroll along the bank, gaze an amazing nature, have a rest in benches. Those who like an active holiday can ride a bike, rollerskate in a bicycle lane. 20
