The Quill Webinar on Healthy Food paves the Way for Healthy Womanhood The academic year started off with a Healthy knock! Knock ! at the doors of the students’ homes. The online webinar took place on the 16th of April, 2021 for the mother’s of the NGPians from grade 1 to 5. The session was an enriching experience for the multi-tasking-mothers to pause and think about their health. Webinar on Nutrition and School Goers With the increase in the number of days of stay @ home for our children, we offered a colourful palette of nutritional discussion as a reminder to focus on one’s health, which is mostly ignored by them. The online webinar was conducted for students of grade 7 and 8 on the 17th of April,2021. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill Freadom Story Telling session - Grade 1-3 Usually, Summer was the time for schools to relax for a bit. But this year, it was different. There was a deficit in learning because of online learning for a whole year. Some children were really behind their class. And in the Summer break, what if they fall behind even more in their language skills? With this thought, the NGPSchool offered a free Reading Application : FReadom app from stones2milestones for the students of class 1 to 8 in the month of May,2021. Our philosophy is simple - a child who reads is an independent learner and performs better in academics and in professional life. With reading, comes true freedom. With the increased number of users of this FReadom App, Stones2milestones hosted exclusive storytelling sessions for students of grade 1 to 5 on June28th and 29th,2021. Reading still continues ! Teachers handling the primary classes of The NGP school participated in a 2 hour workshop on the Art of Storytelling by CLUB1BR of stonestomilestones as a part of the capacity building program for 2021-22. Here are a few glimpses from the session. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

Spanning over an hour with 24 creative participants out of the 35 registrations, the trash to treasure competition was sure a tough one to judge. From using daily household waste items like coconut shells to once in a while using ice cream sticks, the students didn't hold back on their creativity and let it all out. Judging on the basis of creativity, presentation, and materials used, the members of the committee had a tough time selecting winners from all the amazing entries. The students even though limited to a few waste items from households, thought out of the box giving us so many amazing items. Finally, after a hard hour of judging and going through the entries, we emerged with four winners, Harshitha Vidyashekar, Jyoshini, Khavya, and Ananthika Rakesh. The Quill Kamarajar Day Celebration TAMIL DEBATE Karmaveerar Kamarajar was one of the greatest chief ministers that Tamil Nadu ever had. He is admired by all for his countless contributions to the people, brainstorming ideas and for his implausible simplicity. Our NGP School’s commemoration on Perunthalaivar Kamarajar’s 119th birthday was done to a great extent. There were various kinds of competitions taking place from 3 – 12 grades which were backed by the Tamil department. Students of grade III and IV were asked to do a drawing on the epic leader. The competitions also included video making for class V on one of the best moments in Kamarajar’s life. Oration was conducted for classes VI – VIII on the subject: why do I like Kamarajar, and why do we want Kamarajar’s rule again. A debate was also held for class IX- XII on whether Kamarajar is remembered by people to this day because of his contribution to the public or by his simplicity. All the competitions created an exceptional platform for the students to express their hidden talent and also to assimilate a lot about the legendary ‘kingmaker’. The Quill Sustainable Economy PIGGY BANK & DEBATE The UN-based activities for the month of July revolved around the topic of ‘Sustainable Economy - Needs vs Wants’. The students visualized a video regarding how one can be more conscious of the resources in our everyday life and how we all can act as responsible individuals. The 2 activities in which the students were engaged to practice sustainable living were: 1.My Piggy Bank- My little savings: All the students were supposed to make a piggy bank with used plastic bottles in order to develop a habit of saving money for the future and to also enhance one’s creativity. *PICS* THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill Sustainable Economy PIGGY BANK & DEBATE 2. Needs vs Wants: To begin with, a video highlighting the difference between Needs & Wants was shown. The Quill Hackath n The story behind Tamilnadu's first intra-school hackathon In the era of computational thinking, modern problems require modern solutions. The pandemic hit hard on us. The economy is exploding and working on linearizing the COVID 19 cases graph. Human resources with prediction and analytical skills work hard in controlling the COVID 19. But employment of an Automated Pandemic Management System which renders all the statistics with the data provided using Machine Learning, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to implement a successful Standard Operating Procedure and cease the graph's growth in a short period is the best method that is both economically feasible and practically possible. The idea evolved when I competed in a hackathon conducted by IIT Madras. There I learned many things regarding the relation between prediction and coding. The concept of the hackathon fascinated me.Later, I discussed the same with my teammate Anish, and I realised that we both were on the same page. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

Hackath nThe Quill The story behind Tamilnadu's first intra-school hackathon We began working in early May. The Time when the pandemic was at peak. So, we discussed the practical ways to organize a COVID based hackathon. Then we concluded that the human resources that can predict the daily new cases, daily new recovered and daily new deaths with the lowest mean error has a highly predictive mind which can be beneficial in generating guidelines to control COVID. It will also increase awareness among the people. Irrespective of the programming background, people with or without coding knowledge participated in the hackathon. We made a primitive plan and consulted the principal. We had several brainstorming sessions and finally drafted a plan. www.studiesoverloaded.com. This was the platform where we worked- suitable to conduct the hackathon. We also made a registration form and the submission forms that the participants used to submit their predictions. We also needed the dataset - the table of past one year COVID data necessary to predict the future which were available in the government website archives. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

Hackath nThe Quill The story behind Tamilnadu's first intra-school hackathon But sorting them for the requisite information was hectic. We brought in our wonderful data analyst classmates, Joshika, Lingeshwaran and Subash Mohan to help us in that job. We were working on building the dataset and backend verification to give access to the competition page. We designed the invitation for the event and all of us were geared up ready to face the wave of incoming registrations for the event. We called in for an introductory session and explained every aspect of the event and its learning outcomes. The registrations started on 17 May 2021and ended on 22 May 2021. The results were calculated using another platform which made our work a cakewalk. Finally, we had all the results with us and we called for an Awarding ceremony on 29 May 2021. We had already designed the certificates and the winners were announced. This whole process has been a fun and an interesting journey for us where we learnt many things. One, Event management and the other being smart work. The NGP Hackathon - 2k21 was a successful venture and we are happy that we were the organizers of Tamilnadu's first Intra-School Hackathon THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

Online Summer school on The Quill Usefulness of Remote Sensing & GIS for Environmental Studies What could mean more than a certificate from one of the best space organisations in the world? Yes, ISRO along with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun conducted a 5-day students-only program - ‘Summer School on usefulness of Remote Sensing & GIS for Environmental Studies’. This online workshop was conducted from 26 July 2021 to 31 July 2021. There were different videos explaining different topics in an intelligible way. Every day, there were two sessions of about one hour that completely focused on the topic and gave us an in-depth understanding. We were provided with video lectures, both on YouTube and on the website so that we can watch them anytime we want. Along with the video lectures, we were also provided with the study material for each topic. We attempted quizzes every day which had questions from the topic which was taken on that particular day. Doubts about the live lectures were cleared at the end of each session. We were allotted 10 minutes of time where we could clarify our doubts in the live chat section. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

Online Summer school on The Quill Usefulness of Remote Sensing & GIS for Environmental Studies If we had missed the live lecture, there was also a forum called ‘Discussion’ where we can clear our doubts. The website was very much easy to use and we did not face any kind of serious trouble in studying the topics. At the end of the course, students who scored 55% and above were awarded certificates. This shows that there was no room for those who only wanted the certificate and did not intend to acquire knowledge. I wish ISRO conducts many more such workshops in the future. I thank my school management for providing us with such opportunities. -- Anish P XII, The NGP School THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill Election Campaign A new day, a new academic year and a new students council. And so, with eager and enthusiastic smiles plastered on their faces, students from grades 9 to 12 lined up for various posts ranging from the house captains to school pupil leaders. Level-headed and confident, each with various promises and ideas of their own, signed up for posts which they felt they were most suited for, and that's when it began : The student council election. Eagerly waiting to know if they went past the first round and were nominated, and sure enough the results came out soon and the most interesting part came, the Election campaign. Given that this was the first year the student council was going to take place online, the candidates had to come up with ideas that would benefit students this digital year. Having attended online classes for a year and knowing what everyone wanted from the perspective of a student, they racked their brains to come up with ideas that would benefit the students and ultimately gain their support as well. To say that the candidates were creative with their ideas, would be an understatement. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill Election Campaign They went above and beyond and came up with plans that they promised to fulfill if they were elected. Ranging from reduced class timings to more fun contests, every candidate had an interesting set of ideas. And then came the actual physical campaigning part, over the span of a week, the contestants campaigned from grades 6 to 12, with the students eagerly listening to their aims and contemplating whom to vote for. Not to forget to mention their innovative posters full of clever slogans sent to all classrooms. Neat posters with short and crisp messages that delivered their ideas to the point. Finally on Tuesday, the 22nd of June, the campaigning successfully wrapped up. The voters had their ballots secretly tucked in their hands, and on 24th they made their final decision for the student council. They chose no less than the best for the student council for the year 2021-22. With that yet another student council elections concluded, with a worthy team ready to take off for their duties. The Quill Investiture ceremony If your actions inspire others to learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader” boomed through the speakers of students’ devices, as they sat in the comfort of their home to watch the Virtual Investiture Ceremony of the year 2021-21. The newly elected council members in their prim and crisp uniforms, with brightly lit smiles, sat heartily waiting to accept their positions and take their oaths as the new leaders. Students with even more excited smiles, eager to see the ones they elected implement what they promised and Teachers with proud smiles. And so it began. Praying and hoping for an auspicious and good year, the event kicked off with a melodious prayer song, sung by our very own Sanjay Raghav, pulling at our heart strings. Soon followed by Hassini, who poured her heart out in an elegant and passionate dance performance that had all of us drop our jaws. Words nothing less than inspiring and welcoming were then given by our former ASPL Isaac Abraham, pushing everyone gathered there to strive to work hard and achieve something no matter how hard or different this year would be. And as the old saying goes “Rome was not built in a day”, we were presented with a beautiful slideshow showcasing the hard work students and teachers put behind the Campaigning and Elections that led to the event. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill Investiture ceremony And then came the stars of the day, the newly elected members of the student council. Each with triumphant and promising smiles on their face proudly accepted their post. Dr. P.R. Muthuswamy, who graced this occasion as the Chief guest, shared with us ten commandments for life. Ten commandments that prompted us to be hard working and to toil for what we wanted. Our correspondent Thavamani ma'am and chairman, Nalla G Palaniswami sir, moved us with their kind and loving words, which we all will keep in our hearts and minds for the rest of our lives. Gratitude and affirmation flew through their words as our newly elected SPLs gave their acceptance speech. and with our ASPLs thanking the gathering for devoting their time to appreciate our new council, the day came to a conclusion. With students hoping the council will fulfill their requests and the student body striving to be good leaders, the ceremony might have ended but it was only the beginning of a new year with new opportunities and new ideas. The Quill Teacher’s Day Celebration The covid19 pandemic has curtailed much of our freedom, but nothing can stop the students from putting up an amazing Teacher’s Day celebration for their beloved teachers. Indeed, this year’s celebration is one that all will remember with warm hearts and glowing smiles. The celebration began with the Welcome Address, done by our ASPL, Tejas Rishi. The welcome dance was filled with graceful moves and dedicated steps that kept with the rhythm of joy that filled the virtual meet. The students gave speeches mixed with love, respect, gratitude and a touch of cuteness that left all in awe. The ninth grade students put together a skit, with the theme of ‘Gratitude for the Teachers’. Speeches given in Tamil and Hindi gave teachers a chance to be filled with pride and happiness. The band students gave a wondrous performance filled with lovely voices, synchronized music, and heartfelt dedication. The skit done on ‘Nostalgic Moments’ was definitely the highlight of the whole show. It gave both students and teachers a chance to reminisce the way things used to be before our lives changed drastically. A dance by Sriram played the right keys to unlock the hearts of the audience. The seniors who left the school came back to express their thankfulness to their school teachers. This goes rightly to show that now and forever, our teachers are our teachers, no matter where we go or how our life turns. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill Teacher’s Day Celebration The marvelous show came to an end with an inspiring speech from our Principal mam, Mrs. Preetha A Prakash. Her noteworthy compliments and affectionate message to the students gave the perfect ring to the day. At last, the ceremony ended with teachers expressing their gratitude to the students for putting on such a rocking show. Later, all the teachers were asked to go to different meet links in order to relax and play some fun games. The Teacher’s Day programme was outstanding and deserved all the praise it got. A salute to the students who put the whole thing together and to the teachers who inspired us so much, even in the pandemic. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
