Killing Hitler Sequential Recut Project Proposal

History • There were six attempts on Hitler’s life before his suicide on April 30, 1945 • The first was in 1921 as the result of a bar fight • In 1938 a theology student became convinced Hilter was a threat to the Catholic Church and attempted to shoot Hitler • In 1939 a man placed a bomb inside a pillar at the location Hit- ler was giving a speech, but the bomb exploded just eight min- utes after Hitler left • In 1943, before Hitler boarded his plane a German military of- ficer gave a member of his staff a package and asked for it to be delivered to a friend in Berlin. The package contained explo- sives, but they it had a defetive fuse. • Again in 1943, just a week after the defective bomb the same man and his co-conspirators planned a suicide mission at an exhibition Hitler was scheduled to tour. The bomb had a ten minute fuse but Hitler left after only a few minutes, and the bomb was diffused. • The last attempt on Hitler’s life was in 1944, shortly after D-Day, multiple German officers planned to assasinate Hitler with a briefcase full of explosives. Four men died, but Hitler sustanied no injuries because someone had moved the brief- case behind the leg of a table seconds before it exploded.

Setting • The painting would be set at the Reichstag Speech, which oc- cured on January 30,1939 seven months before the start of World War II in Europe, and after only two attempts on Hitler’s life. • From this angle • One of the men on the podium with Hitler shoots him • Set as bullet in in the air
