1. Group Discussion 1.1. Poisonous peaches Once a master and his servant lived in a big house. In the courtyard, there was a peach tree. Every year, there are were lots of peaches on the peach tree. The master was a stingy man. He wanted to keep all the peaches for himself. He did not want to give any to his servant. He had a good idea of preventing his servant from eating the peaches. “The peaches tree in the courtyard is poisonous,” said the master. “Don’t eat the peaches on the tree. If you eat them, you’ll be poisoned. Do you understand?” The servant knew what type of person his master was. So he replied, “I’ve never tried to go the peach tree. Don’t be worried, Master!” One day, when the master went out on business, the servant climbed up the peach tree to pluck the peaches to eat. When he was very full, he went to the master’s room. He took out a jade cup from a box and played with it.

The jade cup was also a favorite thing of the master, who did not allow the servant to touch it. Now that the master was not at home, the servant took the opportunity to take it out and have a look. Suddenly, the jade cup fell to the floor and broke. The servant was frightened and hid himself in his room. In the afternoon, the master came home. He went to the courtyard to take a look at the peach tree. When he saw a number of peach missing, he flew into a fit of temper. He rushed into the house and shouted, “How dare you eat my peaches?” Lying on the bed, the servant said feebly: “Are you back now, Master?” “Yes, what’s wrong with you?” “After you left this morning,” The servant said, “ I went to clean your room and, cut of carelessness, I broke your jade cup. I went to the courtyard to eat a large number of peaches. I’m now poisoned and will die soon.”

โครงสร้ำง 3 ข้อ ใน Poisonous Peaches 1. โครงเร่ือง (Plot) 1.1 ชนิดของโครงเร่ือง เรื่องส้ัน Poisonous Peaches น้นั มีเน้ือเรื่องที่ไมซ่ บั ซอ้ นมากนกั รวมถึงเหตุการณ์หรือการ ดาเนินเร่ืองเก่ียวพนั กบั ตวั ละครหลกั ท้งั สองตวั Master และ Servant โดยตรง ต้งั แตก่ ารตน้ เรื่องที่มี การเล่าเร่ืองของ Master ตอนกลางของเร่ืองที่แสดงใหเ้ ห็นถึงการกระทาของ Servant และ ตอนทา้ ย เรื่องท่ีเป็ นจุดสรุปเร่ืองราวท้งั หมด ดงั น้นั โครงเร่ืองในเรื่องน้ีจึงเป็ น โครงเร่ืองหลกั (main plot) 1.2 องค์ประกอบของโครงเร่ือง ควำมขดั แย้ง (conflicts) เรื่องส้ันเรื่องน้ีมีการแสดงให้เห็นถึงความขดั แยง้ ในเร่ือง ซ่ึงเป็นความขดั แยง้ ระหวา่ ง Master และ Servant ซ่ึงเรียกวา่ ความขดั แยง้ ระหวา่ งตวั ละคร (man against man) สงั เกตไดจ้ ากในเร่ืองที่ Master ไมต่ อ้ งการให้ Servant ไดก้ ิน Peaches จึงไดค้ ิดอุบายข้ึนมาเพ่ือหลอก Servant The master was a stingy man. He wanted to keep all the peaches for himself. He did not want to give any to his servant. He had a good idea of preventing his servant from eating the peaches. เหตุกำรณ์ (actions) ในเรื่องส้ัน Poisonous Peaches มีพฒั นาการของเหตุการณ์ (development of actions) ดงั น้ี - การปเู ร่ือง (exposition) ในเร่ืองส้ันน้ี มีการปูเรื่องซ่ึงเป็ นการบรรยายถึง Master และ Servant วา่ อยใู่ นบา้ นหลงั ใหญ่ และมีตน้ Peach อยใู่ น Courtyard และในทุก ๆ ปี ตน้ Peach จะ ออกผลเป็นจานวนมาก นน่ั เอง - เหตุการณ์ทวคี วามเขม้ ขน้ (rising action) ในเรื่องส้ันน้ี เหตุการณ์ไดท้ วคี วามเขม้ ขน้ ก็ตอ่ เมื่อ Master ไดอ้ อกอุบาย เพื่อป้ องกนั ไม่ให้ Servant น้นั กินลูก Peach แต่ Servant ก็รู้ทนั กลอุบายของ เจา้ นายและไดก้ ินลูก Peach และไดไ้ ปเล่นกบั Jade cup

- จุดสุดยอดของเรื่อง (climax) ในเรื่องส้นั Poisonous Peaches ไดถ้ ึงจุด Climax เมื่อ Servant ไดท้ า Jade Cup แตก และ Servant กไ็ ดซ้ ่อนตวั เอง และ Master ไดก้ ลบั มา - เหตุการณ์คล่ีคลาย (falling action) เกิดข้ึนในตอนที่ Master ไดพ้ ดู คุยกบั Servant วา่ เกิด อะไรข้ึน และ Servant ก็ไดต้ อบวา่ เขาลงโทษตวั เองที่ไดท้ า Jade Cup แตกระหวา่ งการทาความ สะอาด จึงไดก้ ินลูก Peaches เขา้ ไป และจะเสียชีวติ ในไมช่ า้ - บทสรุป (resolution หรือ denouement) ความขดั แยง้ ไดจ้ บลง เพราะคาพดู โกหกของ Servant จึงทาใหเ้ ราสงสยั วา่ เหตุการณ์จะจบอยา่ งไร Master จะลงโทษ Servant หรือไม่ ซ่ึงเป็ นการ จบแบบทิ้งใหผ้ อู้ ่านขบคิดเอง ลำดบั กำรเกดิ ของเหตุกำรณ์ในเรื่อง (sequence of actions) สาหรับการลาดบั เหตุการณ์ในเรื่อง Poisonous Peaches ผแู้ ต่งมีการเล่าเรื่องแบบ แสดง เหตุการณ์ตามลาดบั เวลา (chronological order) เพราะมีการเล่าเร่ืองแบบเร่ิมจากการเกริ่นถึงตวั ละคร ความเป็ นอยู่ และการเกิดเหตุการณ์ต่างตา่ ง ๆ กเ็ ริ่มจากตน้ จนจบ ไมไ่ ดม้ ีการกล่าวสลบั กลบั ไป กลบั มา หรือเล่ายอ้ นอดีตแต่อยา่ งใด 1.3 เทคนิคเพม่ิ ควำมน่ำสนใจให้แก่โครงเรื่อง เงอ่ื นงำหรือควำมน่ำสงสัย (suspense) มีการใชจ้ ุดบางจุดเพมิ่ ความสงสัยแก่ผอู้ า่ น เช่น ตอนท่ี Servant แอบขโมยกินลูกPeach ของ Master แลว้ เผลอทา jade cup แตก จึงทาใหผ้ อู้ า่ นเกิดความ สงสัยวา่ ถา้ Master รู้จะเกิดอะไรข้ึนต่อไป 2. ตวั ละคร (Characters) 2.1 คุณสมบัตขิ องตัวละคร (characteristics) - ตวั ละครในเรื่องส้ันน้ี มีเหตุจงู ใจในการแสดงออก เพราะวา่ การที่ Master มีอารมณ์โกรธ เพราะ เห็นวา่ ลูกPeach ไดห้ ายไปจากตน้ จึงไดแ้ สดงอารมณ์โกรธออกมา ซ่ึงเป็ นแรงจงู ใจในการ แสดงออก และท่ี Servant ขดั คาสง่ั ของ Master กอ็ าจเป็ นผลมาจากความข้ีเหนียวหรือความเห็นแก่

ตวั ของ Master กไ็ ด้ เพราะการท่ีอยบู่ า้ นเดียวกนั และ Servant ก็คอยดูแลหรือทางานในบา้ น ก็ควร จะแบ่งลูก Peach ใหก้ ินบา้ น เพราะยงั ไง Master กไ็ มส่ ามารถกินลูก Peach เหล่าน้นั หมดอยแู่ ลว้ 2.2 ลกั ษณะนิสัยของตัวละคร (Characterizations) สาหรับลกั ษณะนิสัยตวั ละคร ในเร่ือง Poisonous Peaches เป็ นแบบตัวละครด้ำน เดยี ว (flat characters) เช่น Master กเ็ ป็ นตวั ละครท่ีบง่ บอกถึง ความเห็นแก่ตวั และข้ีเหนียว ส่วน Servant ก็บง่ บอกถึงคนท่ีชอบโกหก และขดั คาสั่งเจา้ นาย ซ่ึงในเร่ืองก็ไม่ไดแ้ สดงให้เห็นลกั ษณะดา้ น อ่ืน ๆ ของตวั ละครเทา่ ไหร่ ในส่วนของพฒั นาการของตวั ละคร ไมม่ ีพฒั นาการชดั เจนมากนกั จึงเป็ น ตวั ละครแบบคงท่ี (static characters) 2.3 วธิ ีกำรนำเสนอตัวละคร ผแู้ ตง่ ใชก้ ารบรรยายตวั ละคร และเหตุการณ์ตา่ งๆ เป็ นแบบผสมผสำน ในบางคร้ังก็ใชก้ ำร บรรยำย (presentation method) เช่น การเล่าลกั ษณะความเป็ นอยขู่ อง Master และ Servant หรือ การบรรยายลกั ษณะนิสัยของตวั ละครในเร่ือง และในบางคร้ังกใ็ หผ้ อู้ า่ นตีความจำกเหตุกำรณ์ (dramatic method) เพราะบางช่วง ผแู้ ตง่ กไ็ มเ่ ฉลยแตใ่ หผ้ อู้ า่ นทาความเขา้ ใจและคาดเดาเอาเอง 3. ฉำก (Setting) 3.1 หน้ำทขี่ องฉำก (function of setting) เรื่องส้นั เร่ืองน้ีไดม้ ีการใชฉ้ าก ที่ทาใหเ้ ขา้ ใจลกั ษณะทางสงั คมได้ เพราะวา่ มีการบอกถึงบา้ น หลงั ใหญ่ ซ่ึงมีเจา้ นายและคนรับใชอ้ ยู่ จะเห็นไดว้ า่ ผแู้ ต่งไดส้ ื่อถึงค่านิยมของคนในปัจจุบนั ท่ีบา้ นหลงั ใหญ่ จะตอ้ งมีคนรับใช้ 3.2 ชนิดของฉำก (types of settings) ฉากของเรื่องส้นั น้ี เป็ นฉากที่มีชีวติ เพราะวา่ ผแู้ ตง่ ไดเ้ ล่าถึงฉากบา้ นหลงั ใหญ่ท่ีมีลานกวา้ ง และลานกวา้ งก็มีตน้ Peach อยู่ และตน้ Peach กบั บา้ นก็มีอิทธิพลกบั พฤติกรรมของตวั ละครในการ ดาเนินเร่ือง เช่น Servant ปี นตน้ Peach เพื่อที่จะกินลูกPeach และไดท้ า Jade Cup แตกจึงไดไ้ ป ซ่อนตวั ในหอ้ ง ซ่ึงจะเห็นไดว้ า่ ฉากในเรื่องจะสัมพนั ธ์กบั เหตุการณ์ ทาใหฉ้ ากดูมีชีวติ นน่ั เอ

1.2. The wind & The sun Picture 6: The North Wind and The Sun analysis by Web VP According to the text analysis in Picture 6, it identifies that the short story “The North Wind and The Sun” consisting K1 words with 85.77% in the short story, K2 words with 4.49% in the short story and Off-List words with 9.74%. On the other hand, there are no AWL words in the short story. This short story can be taught for pre-intermediate learner or the students who have some performances in the English language because it has a lot of K1 words that is the general words which can be used or seen in daily life. If the students can understand the meaning in the K1 words, they can understand nearly this whole short story or others story which the students will read soon. In addition, the teacher can teach this short story by the context clues technique. For instance, the teacher gives some words and the short story to the student. Then, the students try to guess the words meaning by guessing from the environment of the words. After that, the students can remember words meaning and knowing how to use the words correctly. This technique can help the students to remember longer than memorizing the words by words. 'You see, boys,' he had said, 'as soon as my little girl told me that she simply had to have one of those Golden Tickets, I went out into the town and started buying up all the Wonka bars I could lay my hands on. Thousands of them, I must have bought. Hundreds of thousands! Then I had them loaded onto trucks and sent directly to my own factory. I'm in the peanut business, you see, and I've got about a hundred women working for me over at my place, shelling peanuts for roasting and salting. That's what they do all day long, those women, they sit there shelling peanuts. So I says to them, \"Okay, girls,\" I says, \"from now on, you can stop shelling peanuts and start shelling the wrappers off these chocolate bars instead!\" And they did. I had every worker in the place yanking the paper off those bars of chocolate full speed ahead from morning till night.

'But three days went by, and we had no luck. Oh, it was terrible! My little Veruca got more and more upset each day, and every time I went home she would scream at me, \"Where's my Golden Ticket! I want my Golden Ticket!\" And she would lie for hours on the floor, kicking and yelling in the most disturbing way. Well, I just hated to see my little girl feeling unhappy like that, so I vowed I would keep up the search until I'd got her what she wanted. Then suddenly . . . on the evening of the fourth day, one of my women workers yelled, \"I've got it! When you lick a strawberry, it tastes of strawberry. And when you lick a snozzberry, it tastes just exactly like a snozzberry…” “But what does a snozzberry taste like?” “You’re mumbling again,” said Mr. Wonka. “Speak louder next time. On we go!
