DESIGNER ACTIVITY:DESCRIPTION OF EDUCATION/ WORKING EXPERIENCEI  graduated  from  Nottingham  Trent  University  in  2013  with  a  degree  in  fashion  knitwear  design  and  knitted  textiles.  I  have  several  years  experience  working  in  the  industry  for  knitwear  design  studios,  sweater  consultancies  and  knitwear  suppliers.    I  have  a  strong  technical  understanding  of  knitwear  constructions,  processes  and  finishing’s  having  worked  at  several  swatching  companies;  knitting  for  their  collections  and  individual  clients,  developing  knitted  structures  and  relevant  knitting  techniques  in  accordance  to  design  briefs.  Whilst  working  at  Sophie  Steller  I  helped  to  prepare  two  SPINEXPO  trend  shows.  I  developed  the  ability  to  handle  the  yarn  creatively  and  innovatively  whilst  maintaining  an  awareness  that  both,  the  yarn  quality  should  be  showcased  in  the  best  way  and  the  trends  remain  coherent.  My  most  recent  job  has  been  working  as  a  designer  for  DirecTEX,  a  knitwear  supplier  part  of  the  Chinese  company  Merry  Link.  My  responsibilities  included  pattern  and  knitwear  design  for  womenswear  and  childrenswear,  primarily  for  American  clients.  Working  closely  with  the  product  development  team  in  Hong  Kong,  learning  how  to  communicate  ideas  in  the  most  efficient  way.  I  also  assisted  with  trend  analysis  for  kids,  mens  and  womens  knitwear  and  compiled  client  specific  presentation  materials.  I  collected  market  intelligence  and  created  reports  from  tradeshow  visits.  I  know  live  and  work  on  a  freelance  basis  in  London.DESCRIPTION OF YOURSELF AND YOUR DESIGNS: My practice is dominated by colour and pattern. Excluding black and white, I experiment withcomplimentary hues and compositions to create a fresh, harmonious mood. With a contemporary take on craft I start with traditional techniques that I develop and adapt to createinventive hand-made knitwear with a minimalist silhouette and contemporary aesthetic. Exploring transparencyand negative space to create layered motifs, sometimes having the wearers skin become part of the pattern. Intrigued by other cultures and with a love to travel I often look to global influeneces with time-honouredtechniques for textile inspiration. Aspiring to create pieces that feel both old and new, always designing withlongevity in mind.I have a long-standing relationship with Novetex Textile Ltd in Hong Kong, which I have built up over a number ofyears, who continue to sponsor me with my choice of yarns from their extensive range of fibres, from wool throughto organic cotton. Novetex is a company that I respect and feel passionate about working with due to theirextensive environmental and ethical policies. The brand belongs to the “Better Cotton Initiative” and has GOTScertification. www.santoni.cn
