FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL Each year, our annual Junior Music Festival is a highlight in the Junior School calendar; an event in which every Junior School student will enjoy the opportunity and experience of performing on stage at least twice. Music is an area in which all Redlands students have a variety of opportunities to be involved in, both within our curriculum and cocurricular offerings, as will be showcased tonight. I have no doubt that the 2023 Junior Music Festival, A Night with the Stars, will also take many of us in the audience back through time and perhaps evoke a memory or two from years gone by, as music has the magical power to do. My sincere appreciation is extended to our passionate and inspirational Music team who have prepared the students for this evening’s show and the many other staff who have worked behind the scenes, or will do so this evening, to create this special event. Ari Guha Head of Junior School FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR CAMPUS MUSIC What better way to celebrate the 15th Annual Junior Music Festival than by being transported to the enchanting world of stage and screen! From timeless classics to modern masterpieces, A Night With the Stars unveils the brilliance of our young performers, weaving together music from famous musicals, tv series’ and films. In Terms 2 and 3, students have been immersed in learning experiences relating to the theme of stage and screen through weekly curriculum and cocurricular experiences, enhancing skills in performing, listening and composing with a variety of repertoire. Learning the art of performing to a large audience is no easy feat and our students have shown wonderful growth in this area. Junior School students, staff and the wider community come together today to celebrate the joy music brings to our world. We acknowledge the remarkable achievements of all the students in the Junior School and share in their pride as they present items that reflect their musical learning throughout Semester One. MUSIC IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL Redlands offers all students the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of music experiences within our curricular, cocurricular and extracurricular streams. Our weekly Curricular Music classes in Years 3 to 6 are richly embedded with solo and ensemble music-making experiences, with all Year Groups in Years 3 to 5 combining once a week for whole cohort music-making experiences incorporating Choral and Instrumental opportunities. Year 3 Choral and Strings Year 4 MIP (Strings, Band and Orchestra) Year 5 MIP (Strings, Band and Orchestra) In addition to curriculum learning experiences, Redlands offers further enrichment opportunities before, during and after school hours for K-6 students across a range of Cocurricular and Extracurricular activities, including small and large ensembles as well as private tuition for instrumental learning, sound engineering and musicianship.
