We will place our hope in You Lord/ יהוהour God, to quickly see the splendor of Your might--to remove idolatry from our world so that false gods will surely perish. You will repair the world with divine rule, and all flesh will call upon Your name, and You will turn all the earth’s evil toward You. Then will all the inhabitants of our earth openly acknowledge that to You every knee will bend and every tongue will swear loyalty. To You Lord/ יהוהour God, let them bow low, and to Your glorious name let them give honor. Let all accept Your sovereign obligation, so that speedily You will ever rule over them. We remember these, our beloved, not to be sad, but to remember. Our sorrow that accompanies their death does not diminish the joyful gift that was their lives. We remember their kindness and their nobility and their goodness. They taught us to live and love, inspiring us through the grace of their best selves. They have showered us with love and light, and as we remember them in our Kaddish, we bring their light back, to raise up our heavy hearts. These we remember...... Rabbi Jonathan Miller 102

Praise the Lord/יהוה, for God is good. God’s steadfast love is forever. Let Israel now say, God’s steadfast love is forever. Let the house of Aaron now say, God’s steadfast love is forever. But those who fear the Lord/יהוה now say, God’s steadfast love is forever. In my distress, I called upon God; with abundant care God answered me. God is with me, I shall not fear, for what can men do to me? With God as my helper I will see the defeat of my foes. It is better to depend upon God than to trust in mortals. It is better to depend upon God than to trust the powerful! All of the nations swirl about me; in God’s name I will overcome them. As they surround me and beset me, in God’s name I will overcome them. Though they swarm about me like bees, they were extinguished like burning thorns-- By God’s name I will overcome them. I was pressed hard; I almost fell. But God was my help, my strength, my song, and God delivered me triumphant! The tents of the righteous resound with joy and deliverance, God’s right hand brings me strength. The right hand of God will raise me up. The right hand of God brings me strength. I shall not die but live! I will tell of God’s mighty acts. God has chastised me, but God has not delivered me to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness, I will enter them and offer thanks. This is the gateway to the eternal God. Only the righteous shall enter. 107
I will thank You for You have answered me, and You have granted me victory. The stone the builders have rejected has now become the chief cornerstone. This can only be God’s doing; it is marvelous in our sight. This is the day the Lord/ יהוהhas made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Eternal God, deliver us, Eternal God, deliver us. Eternal God, let us plertousps perr, osper. Eternal God, Blessed is the one who comes in God’s name. May you be blessed in God’s house. You are my God, and I will thank you. You are my God, and I will exalt You. Praise God for God is good. God’s steadfast love is forever. Festival Service Opening Reading for All Festivals Three times a year you shall hold a festival for Me: you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, eating matzah for seven days as I have commanded you at the appointed time in the month of spring, for in it you went forth from Egypt; and none shall appear before Me empty-handed; and the Feast of the Harvest, of the first fruits of your work, of what you sow in the field; and the Feast of the Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in the produce from your field. Three times a year all your people shall appear before the Lord/יהוה. Exodus 23:14-17 Eternal God, may none of us appear before You on this festival day empty-handed. Fill our hearts with gratitude and our spirits with joy for the bountiful blessings You have granted our ancestors in ancient days, and which You have renewed day upon day, season after season in our own lives. 117

V’Atah b’rachamecha harabim, amad’ta lahem b’eit tzaratam. We thank you for the miracles, for the salvation, for the mighty deeds, and for the battles and victories that You performed for our ancestors in those days and in our own time. In the days of Mattathias son of Yohanan, the Hasmonean high priest, and in the days of his sons, a cruel power rose against Israel, demanding that they abandon Your Torah and violate Your mitzvot. In Your great mercy, You stood by Your people in time of trouble. You defended them, vindicated them and brought vengeance against those who wronged them. You delivered the strong into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few, the corrupt into the hands of the pure of heart and the guilty into the hands of the innocent. You delivered the arrogant into the hands of those who were faithful to your Torah. You have brought great victories and miraculous deliverance for Your people Israel, revealing Your glory and Your holiness to all the world. Then Your children entered into the Holy of Holies, cleansed Your Temple, purified Your sanctuary, and then kindled lights in Your sacred precincts. They set aside these eight days as the days of Chanukah, a season for thanksgiving and reciting praises to Your great name. 127
Prayer for our Congregation: May the God who blessed our ancestors in every generation bless this holy congregation. Watch over its leaders. Give us wisdom and guide us to act for the welfare of Your Torah and Your people. Bless those who dedicate themselves to its welfare. May they be rewarded for their generosity and kindness. Imbue us with Your love for our people. May we ever reach out to help those in need, and may Your Torah and mitzvot guide us. Remove from us sickness and strife, and may we be forgiven our sins. Open our hearts to be kind and loving to our fellow congregants, and help us bring the blessings of Your love and Your Torah to all those in need. As you have blessed those who came before us, bless us and our children. And we say together: amen. 128
Prayer for the United States of America: Our God and God of our ancestors, we ask Your blessings for the United States of America, for its government, for the office of our president and its advisors and its counselors. We pray for our congress, our governor, our legislators, and for all who tend to the welfare of our community. Bless them with strength and compassion. Help them to be wise in all their deliberations and just in all of their dealings. Guide, too, the fortunes of our land. Protect us. May we and our children dwell in safety and security. May all the inhabitants of our land live in freedom from fear and freedom from want. Broaden our spirits so we might live in accordance with the highest principles of our land. Blot out bigotry and hatred, and help us to work together in concord to advance Your will. May our country be a beacon of justice and freedom to the oppressed of our world. Guard us today and tomorrow, and bestow Your providence upon all of our fellow citizens. And we say together: amen. Prayer for the State of Israel: Our God and God of our ancestors, Rock of Israel and its Redeemer, bless the State of Israel, the first flowering of our redemption. Protect her with Your encompassing love, and spread over her Your sukkah of peace. May her leaders be imbued with Your spirit of wisdom. Strengthen those who are charged to protect our Holy Land, and may they return from their duties to their families and loved ones with shalom. Bestow peace, prosperity and happiness to all the inhabitants of the State of Israel. And we say together: amen. 129
