Around Our Temple 5 Becky May Celebrating her 104th Birthday in November Special Rebecca (Becky) Leibovici May grew up in Montgomery, one of six November Birthdays children, and married the love of her life, Ike May. Their home, in Jasper, was always busy but filled with love and happiness with their Following are members of our seven children, extended family, and many friends. The highlight of family celebrating birthdays every day was when Ike came home from work greeting her with a big in years divisible by 5. kiss and the family sat down for dinner together followed by Ike cutting Lindsay Bayer fruit for everyone then rubbing her feet as the family relaxed. Sharon Cutter She continued to play duplicate bridge until she was almost 101. Frances Cypress The May family, along with the Engel and Mitnick families were the core of the small Matthew Dreffin but vibrant Jewish community at Jasper’s Temple Emanuel. Judaism has always been Carol Filler important in her life and she has continued her membership following the Temple’s Jeanne Hagedorn merger with Temple Emanu-El. Matthew Harris She attributes her longevity to always moving forward and keeping up with family and Jace Held friends. Jacobs Camp and his friends from Jacobs Camp have Susan Styers played an important part in Noah developing a strong Jewish identity. For his Beth Warner Bar Mitzvah, Noah and his brother, Asher, are collecting much-needed items for the First Light homeless shelter for women and children. BAT MITZVAH Brenna Casey Saturday, November 19, 2022 Brenna will be called to the Torah Saturday, November 19th, 2022 on her 13th birthday. She is the daughter of Emily and Matt Casey of Indian Springs, AL, and little sister to Belle Casey. Brenna is in the seventh grade at Oak Mountain Middle School and is in several advanced classes. She is an avid athlete playing travel softball, and OMMS softball and basketball. She is also a member of the show choir and is an SGA representative for her class. Her mitzvah project is Special Equestrians, and she loves the idea of supporting their mission to enrich the lives of adults and children with physical, cognitive or emotional challenges through a relationship with a horse. SUNDAY NOVEMBER 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the Jasper Room Plate Fusing Class Faciltated by Rhandie Weaver Join Rhandie Weaver, artist and owner of Blue Dragon Glass, who will work with you to decorate a 7”x 7” clear glass plate. Students will use glass embellishments and pieces of colored glass to create a design that will then be fired in a kiln to make their designs permanent. They will receive their plate within two weeks of the class after it is shaped in the mold of their choice. These plates would make great Chanukah gifts as well! Blue Dragon Glass has been in business since 2001. Originally from Los Angeles, California, artist Rhandie Weaver moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 2007. Rhandie specializes in making many kinds of glass art and custom glass pieces ranging from works of art that combine stained glass, to glass carving and etching, and fused glass in one piece. She has created works around Birmingham that include the Vulcan Statue at the Birmingham Zoo. NOTE: This class has a maximum of 12 participants.
