TODAY’S OPPONENTS: SOHAM TOWN RANGERS Soham Town Rangers were formed in 1947 as a result of a merger between Soham Rangers (Formed 1919) and Soham Town (Formed 1920). The Julius Mar n Lane ground, which at the me was the home of Soham Town, is s ll the home of the club today, a er it was purchased in 1952. The new club started life in the Cambs League, also running a Reserve team. In 1956, they joined the Peterborough League where they were to remain un l 1963. During their me there, they won the league and the league cup on three separate occasions. The club joined the Eastern Coun es League in 1963, and remained there un l 2008. Soham enjoyed considerable success in the Cambridgeshire Invita on Cup during the1990’s, winning it on three separate occasions. The Greens were also the first winners of the Eastern Coun es Millennium League Cup, when they defeated Diss Town on penal es in the final in 2001. The 2007-08 season was to be the clubs most successful season to date winning the Eastern Coun es Premier Division for the first me, and with it promo on to the Southern League for the first me in their history. Soham transferred to the Isthmian League Division One North for the 2011/12 season with former striker Andrew Furnell returning to take over as Player/Manager. The 2012/13 season saw Soham record their highest ever League posi on, finishing seventh in the Isthmian League North Division, five points outside the play-offs. Soham won the Cambs Invita on Cup for the fi h me in their history in 2014. The 2021/22 campaign saw Soham transferred into the Northern Premier Division Midlands Division, meaning the club had competed in all three sec ons of the Trident League, howev- er a er a difficult season, the Greens were unable to retain their place at step four and were relegated back to the Eastern Coun es League for the 2022/23. Ahead of 2023/24 campaign, Bre Whaley replaces Groves as the new 1st Team manager.
