INVENTIONS Inventions are things that happen when someone decides that they need an improvement in a specific field. Inventions aren’t necessarily meritorious. Some of them do result with bad attributes. An example of a bad invention would be Cigarettes, though it's not necessarily bad it didn’t bring anything good to say the least. But as an overall view, it doesn’t matter whether it’s positive or negative as long as you bring something new to the society and people are ready to let their minds play and explore with things. Inventions lead to many new possibilities and developments. Calculus’s invention in Mathematics, was a big step towards modern current Physics invented by Sir Issac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz. Both Newton and Leibniz invented it separately but both of them did it out of necessity which is a key point here. Necessity is the root to invention and fuels the flame for invention. Another example would be the light bulb by Thomas Alva Edison, invented due to the need of easy access and a quick way for light at home. The Wright brothers’ Aeroplane, Marconi’s Radio, Graham Bell’s telephone etc. all brought very good and needed developments to the society. Though the need wasn’t explicit, as soon as inventions are done, it becomes clear that in the absence of the invention, the need is real. The more inventions that happen, the better the understanding of the Universe is going to be. Inventions sometimes help express ideas much more rigorous and at times even straightforward and simple. Innovation is another thing that actually is different from invention. Innovation is something that is an intentional benefit to society, like an improvement whereas invention is just something newly created, they are double edged swords. Inventions sometimes get their recognition and benefit only as time passes, mostly due to their lack of need at that current time then. Sometimes, Inventions are also lucky in the sense that a spark in the mind is like a big critical breakthrough in the way. But it's still important to consider that even a spark like that isn’t going to happen out of nowhere and that it still requires contribution. So, go out there and let your mind free and find necessities. Though you may not invent something, you contribute. Not only do you contribute but also at least do something productive and gain knowledge with immersion. As an ending note, if you have failed at things, you have actually taught/ shown people that those are wrong ways and that they should try other things in different ways which means that the more you fail, the more closer you are to an invention. “ I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work” -Thomas Alva Edison K. A. Mohideen Asif XI-A
