Introduction: Keys To Living Your Dreams Where is the wealthiest place on the planet? Is it inthe halls of the Federal Reserve? Or in the gold vaults ofFort Knox? Or perhaps the oil fields in the Middle East? Isubmit that the wealthiest place on earth is the graveyardfor here rests millions of individuals who died neverrealizing their potential of depositing their gifts, talentsand dreams in the world before they transitioned. Theearth is full of people with brilliant ideas, strategies oringenious possibilities for enhancing the world. However, like many residing in the cemetery, these ideas are hiddenand buried within the mind and heart locked away fromthe world to enjoy. Success is not an accident. It is the result of a well-executed plan. Keys to living your dreams and achievingsuccess require several fundamental and essentialcomponents. The first step in living your dreams requiresan acknowledgement of your gifts, talents and skills. Allbusiness operates within a medium of exchange in theareas of providing a product or service. So the question is: 2

What can you do that someone will be willing to pay for?Next, you must be willing to invest in your craft. Everygreat and gifted individual invests countless hours andresources developing themselves through educationaltraining and self-improvement. If your library is barren, then your fruits of achievement will never manifest. To beis to study, what you study you will become! Finally, in order to live your dreams, you mustnetwork with others. If you do not NETWORK, you mayNOT WORK. An idea that is not communicated does notexist. Make it your priority to connect with otherindividuals who are doing what you want to do and withothers who are smarter than you. If you are always thesmartest person in your circle of associates, then you needto upgrade your environment. Remember, success willnever manifest itself, if you leave your gifts, talents andskills sitting on the shelf! Do yourself a favor and preparefor success. 3

Teamwork ‘We NOT Me’ represents the essence of winning. The player who plays for themselves are on a path to losing.Great players play for the name on the front of the jersey and notthe name on the back of their uniform. Playing for stats, the press,or fame will only land you in the hall of shame. The best playersplay for his or her teammates. They understand that the team is onlyas strong as its weakest link. ‘I am my brother’s keeper’ is the philosophy great playersutilize to compete and win. True teammates operate with theoverstanding that, “If I can help, I will help!” When the teamshines, the players shine. When the team wins, the players win.Whether in the classroom or on the basketball court, real teammatessee to it that everyone is maximizing their potential and givingmaximum effort. We play together. We win together. We lose together. Wetrain together. We study together. We eat together. We growtogether. We, as a team, do everything together. You know myparents and your parents know who I am. I have your back 24 /7.As your teammate, I personally see to it that you are winning onevery level...all day…everyday! 5

The Law of Coachability “Do Your Job Within The Team Concept!” The surest way to get cut, traded, fired, replaced andremoved from a team is to earn the reputation of beinguncoachable. Regardless if you possess talent above andbeyond your peers, the universal law of sowing andreaping abundantly apply when it comes to humility as amember of a basketball team. The player who thinksthey know it all, can do it all and has seen it all willinevitably suffer the loss of a promising career. Aprideful and arrogant individual will not maximize theirpotential nor will he / she enjoy the fruits of their naturaltalents. A scouting report addresses an assortment ofdisciplines regarding a sports player. Beyond the metricsof stats, percentages and numbers, the personality andcharacter of the player is also evaluated anddisseminated to others. Coaches, general managers, agents, scouts, trainers, school administrators and evenequipment managers all talk. The network surrounding asports team and its players is vast and extension. A baddisposition, poor work ethic and cantankerous attitudeshall not go unnoticed and unreported. Your talent willtake you places where your poor character cannotsustain you! 9

The Law of the Work Ethic “You can’t have a million-dollar dream with a minimum wage work ethic. The surest way to failure and poverty comes throughlaziness. A lazy person relishes a life of undisciplined andunfulfilled desires. An ancient proverb states, \"A little sleep, a littleslumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will comeupon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.\" The onlyplace on earth where success comes before work is in thedictionary. Hard work and dedication must become intimateassociates within your circle of friends. When preparation meets opportunity, success is inevitable. But preparation requires time, sweat equity, commitment andresearch. The path to success does not occur in a straight line.Along the way, Murphy's Law will show up; failure will visit youand rejection will bombard your pathway. No matter whatchallenges you face, you must persevere, work and find ways towin. Small successes lead to the accomplishment of great things. Whether you are rich or poor, black or white, formally orinformally educated, everyone has only 24 hours in a day. Whatwill you do today to get one step closer to achieving your dream? How will you spend your time? Time waits for no one and noindividual can recoup the seconds, minutes and hours wasted onthings irrelevant to the fulfillment of purpose. Work like today is 12

your last. Hustle until your goals are crossed of your action itemchecklist. In all labor there is profit, therefore, invest in your craftby becoming the winner you desire to be. A great work ethicproduces winners; laziness only yields losers! 13

Defense Wins Championships Real Players Play Defense Anybody can score but it takes a special player to lock another player down by playing great defense. Defense requires only two things: (1) Energy and (2) Effort. Great defensive teams play defense with their heart. The mindset of a potent defensive player believes that the player they are guarding will not score in abundance or hurt the team. Your player is your responsibility. Teamwork is not restricted to the offensive side of the ball. Great teams, winning teams play great defense. The philosophy of a team that plays tight defense affirms, “If I Can Help, I Will Help!” If an offensive player breaks down your teammate, his next closest teammate will leave his player by rotating over to impede the progress of the offensive player. Great defensive teams such as the 2015 Seattle Seahawks, the 2000 Baltimore Ravens or the 1985 Chicago Bears became champions by playing great defense. Eleven players functioning as a single unit represents the ultimate in unity and power. 17

The Power of Passion “Passion not potential produces powerful production!” Passion represents an intense desire, yearning or aninsatiable will to perform or act. Passion compels one totransform from what you could do to what you are ferventlydoing. Average people go through the motions of life butpassionate people dominate every aspect of their lives. Passionparalyzes fear and overcomes the criticism of others throughpositive and productive actions. Passion propels you to persist inthe midst of pain, adversity or overwhelming odds. In essence, passion asks, “How bad do you want it?” Possessing the ability to channel your passion intofulfilling your purpose embodies the ultimate goal of living.Passion harnesses its kinsman of self-discipline enabling you toperfect your craft. The passionate ones do what they are supposeto do, when they are supposed to do it even if they do not feellike it. Play Hard. Have Fun! Football Is A Game…Nothing More. Nothing Less. Sports are great but remember…it’s only a game! Sportsdo not end world hunger. Your sport does not cure disease nordoes it heal a broken heart. Football, for instance, is a gamedesigned to foster competition, fitness and teamwork. Theminute the game of football is placed on a pedal of life abovethings that truly matter such as love, family, health and kindness, then you are setting yourself up for a life of failure, frustrationand emptiness. As athletes compete, it is important to keep all things inproper perspective. Compete to win, to make your mark in thegame you love and to foster lasting friendships and memories. But most importantly, do not allow a simple game to cause youto lose sight of the essential joy and purpose of living. FatherTime conquers even the greatest of athletes. One day you will bea step slower, a bit more fragile and unable to compete as youonce did in times past. When that day comes, make sure you arecomfortable with what you have invested and sacrificed. Play sports because of your love for the game. If you areplaying to please your parents, friends or your coach or to earn alot of money, then you will never truly be happy. For whenadversity comes, the desire to quit, give up and cave in willdominate your being. Play for the right reasons. 23
