The greatest decline comes from North Dakota at -37% and Montana at -27%. NASS reports that sevenof the 11 states reporting show a decrease in total dry bean planted acres. Extracting chickpeas, total drybean acreage is 1,167,700 acres, and a decline of 20% of last year’s acreage.North Dakota reported a drop of 24%, while Michigan reported a decline of 14%. That’s a 345% increase from 2017, while lentils, dry pea, and drybean acreage has dropped between 12-15%. CANADA DRY PEAS Canadian dry pea acreage dropped to 3,603,000 acres from a bit over 4 million last year. The number ended up being 7% below Stats Canada projections, about a 12% decline from last year. CANADA LENTIL ACREAGE Lentil acreage in Canada has declined as well to 3,767,100 acres, a decline of 15% from the 4,407,681 acres planted in 2017. This was a little less of a decline than projected. CANADA DRY BEAN ACREAGE Canada’s dry bean acreage has dropped as well, from 363,100 acres to 300,800 acres, a decline of 14% excluding chickpeas.Data published June 29, 2018 Page 7 of 6
