Skonk's daughter, Ruth Crouch and her hus-band Hylton, committed the pledge on behalf of thefamily. The Nicholson family history and their associationwith the school is woven into the very fabric of ourbeloved College. To this day they remain extremelypassionate about the school, so much so that incompleting the donor pledge form Ruth \"amended\"the Old Collegian section to read \"Old Girl\" insteadof \"Old Boy\"!The Nicholson ladies have always taken a very keeninterest in the aesthetic appeal of the school andhave expressed a desire that the funding be used toenhance the visual appeal of the College estate. Our heartfelt appreciation is extended to Skonk'sdaughters Ruth, Margaret and Di as well as theirrespective families for this wonderful gesture.Durang Atembe received a pair of spectacles, complimentsof the College Foundation and Moffatt Optical. OTHER NEWS AND EVENTSA few wickets then fell and it wasMr Mike Smith (51 not out), andMr Joe Morgan (29 off 19 balls) whodid most of the damage. The Head’sXI scored an impressive 175 all out.M Hoatson (2/20) and S Hoatson(2/31) were the pick of the bowlers. The Head’s XI then set about re-stricting the Chairman’s XI from thefirst over with Mr Graham Bennetts’space and bounce and the flight andguile of Mr Chris Luman’s off spin. It could have been far worse for the Chairman’s XI if the staff team (Mr Brandon Swart) hadn’t dropped so many catches. Mr Andre Leroy had a moment of brilliance to run K Smith out with what can only be described as world-class fielding. The Chairman’s XI struggled along and it was only K Forde (who finished with 32 to his name) who put any pressure on the bowling unit. Mr Luman was the pick of the bowlers (3/10 in 4 overs), exacting his revenge by getting his son, Malcolm Luman, out to endthe game, after Malcolm had done the same in the first innings. The Headmaster’s XI had restricted the Chairman’sXI to 112, winning by 63 runs in the end. Special thanks to the match sponsors PSG Group and Finlaw Consulting who made the day possible. (We must make mention of the fact that the Head’s XI was the only UNBEATEN cricket team at College this year.)BACK TO CONTENTS Page 17
