From our experience, we have made sure that many novice adult models, as well as parents of child's models, are not very familiar with the term “model tests” and do not know why these tests are needed in a model portfolio. Therefore, we decided to prepare material that could be useful for parents of novice child models, as well as for photographers, stylists, etc. Model tests are a \"test\" of a model. Usually, taking tests is the next stage after snap-shots (more about them at the end of the article). Model tests are photographs that maximize the advantages of a model's appearance and reveal her potential, demonstrate professional skills and the ability to pose in front of the camera. At the same time, when shooting tests, the model should look as natural as possible. The main task of model tests is to help a modeling agency or customer in choosing the right model. Tests are what you should first send to a potential customer or intermediary agency when participating in a casting. It is competently made professional model tests that will help the customer to present the model in one way or another during the search and selection of a candidate. But model tests are needed for more than just completing a portfolio. They also serve to teach beginner models for their future work. In the process of shooting tests, the skills of working with a photographer and a camera are comprehended, the principles of posing are mastered, good and not entirely successful angles and facial expressions are revealed. In other words, shooting tests is a great hands-on experience for a budding model. This does not mean that a professional model does not need model tests. Tests should be in the portfolio of every model, regardless of the stage of her career and experience. Why model tests are needed not only for beginners - we all know how quickly children grow and change - therefore, for any model, it is important to regularly replenish the portfolio with fresh model tests. The portfolio should reflect the current look of your young model. Rules for conducting model tests: - clothes: clothes should be simple, not distracting attention from the model (usually discreet clothes in casual style, it is important that the figure of the model is guessed in the photographs). Also, among the tests, there may be several shots in which the model is dressed in a sporty, business, classic style. - a good model test usually consists of 3 complete images, while it is advisable to use light, natural makeup - it does not visually change the model's facial features. Hairstyles are also simple - loose hair or laid in a simple hairstyle (ponytail, braid, bun). - photographs are taken from several angles: close- up - portrait photo; middle plan - half-length portrait; general plan - full-length photographs - lighting for model tests: light is simple, without complex lighting schemes, natural light from a window is suitable. - interior: usually tests are filmed in the spirit of minimalism, there should be nothing superfluous in the frame that distracts from the model itself - the requirements for modeling tests do not exclude photographs that demonstrate the acting skills of the model. Now more about what snap-shots are and how they differ from model tests. Snaps are a set of shots from the necessary angles, made according to a certain general standard, designed to show the model's appearance, real data, without embellishing it at all. The main difference from the tests is the complete lack of artistry in the pictures, stingy up the demonstration of external data of the model. Snap-shot - (from the English word snap-shot, snapshot - offhand shot, snapshot). When taking snapshots, no makeup is used, the hair is loose and tied in a ponytail - removed in both versions. Snapshots imply a complete lack of processing - any agency will be able to check whether the file (your photo) was edited and if it was, the snap will be rejected - therefore, snapshots are often taken on snapshots like Polaroid and its analogs. Only on days 4–5 can you lower protection (SPF 30) and allow your child to sunbathe, but no longer than 10–15 minutes. When walking or playing on the beach, be sure to wear a panama hat, a hat with a wide brim, as well as a light natural T-shirt. Trip abroad on the sea. It is better to entrust the organization of a trip abroad at sea with children to a reliable tour operator.
