Dear members of Campbell River ElderCollegeThis award means so much to me. A weight has been lifted from my chest knowing that I can surely afford school next year. This award alone pays for a whole third of my upcoming year at NIC! I am so very grateful for your gift and for giving me this opportunity to follow my dreams of school.I’m looking forward to my education in sciences, first at NIC and later at UVic. I’m particularly excited for the University lifestyle, more independence and more interesting concepts to master. Degrees in science take at least four long expensive years to complete. Your support makes this goal much more accessible to me.Sincerely, ZBDear members of Campbell River ElderCollegeOpening this email after my long day of working a double shift between classes made it all worthwhile. It was a very pleasant surprise to me and my family and I was overcome with an amazing feeling of gratitude. For my entire high school career I had my mind set on becoming a registered nurse. I still wish to pursue this passion, and now knowing the hard work that is to come I have never been more excited.Sincerely, NDElderCollege Campbell River BursariesOur instructors are volunteers. The money from the registration fees for our courses covers our costs. Our surplus is put towards bursaries awarded to local NIC students enrolled in programs leading towards health care for seniors.Below are the thank you’s from two recent recipients.Marsha Zuest and Ed Cooper Ed Cooper and Marsha Zuest have played a key role in building and sustaining ElderCollege in Campbell River. This amazing couple left Milton, Ontario in 2007 and after a brief stop-over in Vancouver made their way to Campbell River, a town with affordable housing, a pool and a library! They soon became involved in ElderCollege. Attending the film studies class and other ElderCollege classes led to new connections and acquaintances. They began their volunteer journey and quickly became essential members of both the Curriculum and Advisory committees. Marsha’s skills as a library technician were invaluable in organizing and administering our growing email base. She was a key contributor and proof-reader as we expanded our Newsletter for the ElderCollege membership. Ed was a Tai Chi master back in Ontario and was soon offering courses in this. His knowledgeable and relaxed approach was a winning combination. Ed also took on the rather daunting job of organizing and formalizing our committee procedures and schedules as Advisory Chair. These two outstanding volunteers provided the base structure for ElderCollege and are just two of the reasons that ElderCollege in Campbell River has been so successful. As an organization, we extend our heartfelt thanks! We wish them all the luck in their new home, Vancouver!
