What is Leather ? Leather is a durable and flexible material created by tanning animal raw hide and skins. The most common raw material is cattle hide. It can be produced at manufacturing scale ranging from artisan to modern industrial scale. Leather is used to make a variety of articles, including kitchen textile, footwear, automobile seats, clothing, bags, book binding, fashion accessories, furniture etc. The leather manufacturing process is divided into three fundamental sub process: preparatory stage, tanning and crusting. A further sub process, finishing, can be added into the leather process sequence but not all leather receive finishing. For some leathers, tanners apply a surface coating, called \"finishing\". Finishing operations can include oiling, brushing, buffing, coating, polishing, embossing, glazing or tumbling, among others. Leather can be oiled and waxed to improve its water resistance and better hand feel.
Tanning methods: • Vegetable-tanned leather: Leather is tanned using tannins extracted from vegetable matter, such as tree bark prepared in bark mills. It is the oldest known method. Vegetable-tanned leather is not stable in water; it tends to discolor, and if left to soak and then dry, it shrinks and becomes harder. This is a feature of vegetable-tanned leather that is exploited in traditional shoemaking. In hot water, it shrinks drastically and partly congeals, becoming rigid and eventually brittle • Chrome-tanned leather: It is also known as \"wet blue“. The chrome tanning method usually takes approximately one day to complete, making it best suited for large-scale industrial use. This is the most common method in modern use. It is more supple and pliable than vegetable-tanned leather and does not discolor or lose shape as drastically in water as vegetable-tanned. However, there are environmental concerns with this tanning method, as chromium is a heavy metal.
Animal Welfare The Animal Welfare Act makes owners and keepers responsible for ensuring that the welfare needs of their animals are met. These include the need for a suitable environment (place to live), for a suitable diet, to exhibit normal behavior patterns, to be housed with and to be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease. There are many different approaches to describing and defining animal welfare. Providing good animal welfare is sometimes defined by a list of positive conditions which should be provided to the animal. This approach is taken by the Five Freedoms. The Five Freedoms are: • Freedom from thirst and hunger • Freedom from discomfort • Freedom from pain, injury and disease • Freedom to express most normal behavior • Freedom from fear and distress From our wide range of products, we are offering excellent quality leather products with traceability that is high on demand in various industries. The leather what we are offering to our customers are from bred animals produced for meat industries and we are providing complete documents in support of animal welfare and traceability.
