The “J” is open to all regardless of faith, age or ability. We want everyone to feel at home. As you turn the pages of this, our first annual report, you will see that we strive for excellence in our facilities, programs and services. We are a hub of activity, providing cultural, educational, social, recreational and wellness programs for individuals and families across the age spectrum from infancy to senior adults. We take tremendous pride in our award-winning programs for early childhood, camp and after-school and our program for children and adults with special needs. In 2018-2019 we implemented a new five-year strategic roadmap that includes a variety of large capital improvement projects, strives for center excellence and seeks to expand our footprint in the community. The roadmap sets goals to enhance our present and protect our future. As a nonprofit, we strive for a business model that is results-driven, both in return on our investment and return on our mission. The goal is to find and strengthen Jewish identity and connection to Israel. The madrichim (counselors and leaders) work tirelessly to guide and impact the young chanichim (participants and kids). Maccabi Tzair is for ages 5-18 with age appropriate activities for each group. “As a madricha, I’ve had the honor of teaching kids and young adults how to become leaders and the importance of teaching Jewish values. NORA A. KREGER #1 1,007 voted favorite camp by total campers attended CAMP KADIMA Broward Family Life throughout the summer 10 Our award-winning summer camp can boast record-setting attendance numbers for 2019 and rightly so. From ages 18 months through grade 9, campers enjoyed a myriad of activities on our expansive 40-acre campus that includes on-site pools, two playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, sports fields and batting cages, two air-conditioned gymnasiums, a professional-style theater, a computer and technology room, among many other amenities. If a more specialized summer was what you were looking for, Camp Kadima offered up its premier camps: JTech, JGirls, JTheater, JSports and JHoops. Teens and tweens could select Extreme Adventure Camp for grades 6-8 and Leaders- in-Training (LIT) for grade 9. GIBORIM U & Camp Giborim CAMP GIBORIM Named by Posnack Family Foundation of Hollywood FOR CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS Giborim U WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Winner for Outstanding Program by the JCC Association of North America 12 In 1991 the David Posnack JCC formed Camp Giborim, a division of the JCC’s traditional summer camp, but specifically for individuals with special needs. That first summer, Camp Giborim (meaning heroes in Hebrew) had 15 campers enrolled. Since then enrollment has increased to 164 campers, limited only by facility space and monetary resources. Camp Giborim is filled with innovative activities and creative programs that help develop your camper’s life and socialization skills. Over 90% of campers and staff return every summer for the opportunity to put all the stressors of the school year aside and just have fun! All campers participate in a variety of camp activities that include karate, swimming, yoga and field trips. “Gib U is more than just a place for our guys to take a class. Many thanks for your relentless injections of positivity and possibilities.” -Jeanette, mother of two Gib U participants Based on continuous requests from parents and educators, David Posnack JCC realized that special needs populations desired more programming on a daily basis — specifically, enrichment courses offered in late afternoon and early evening. After much planning and consultations, in 2017 the JCC established Giborim U, a program serving youth, ages 6+, and adults, ages 18+. Courses offered focus on the arts, sports and wellness. Supported by a grant from Jewish Federation of Broward County, life skills courses were added. These strengthen socialization skills, culinary skills, financial accountability and independence. Giborim U also features “Sunday Socials,” where participants enjoy activities that take place on the J campus or off site. Camp Giborim and Giborim U include, but are not limited to, individuals diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, developmental delays and various other disabilities. First-time applicants for either program must meet the JCC and Giborim U admission requirements as determined by a completed intake process. Camp Giborim and Giborim U expand the footprint for those with special needs throughout South Florida in a fun, educational, positive, inclusive and productive way. 160+ 100+ Camp Giborim Giborim U participants participants $45,243 $30,000 scholarship dollars for life skills given out programming DAVID POSNACK JCC ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019
