The Huskies had a tough season with a record of 2 and 7. Although it was a difficult season, they played hard and displayed a fighting tenacity. This was evident in the Granger game when they lost in the last 20 seconds of the game. The year was one of adversity. Coach Haslam claims, \" The team never got a break, even in the games we won.\" Coach Haslam, however, was proud of the way the team kept trying to fight back through the negative feelings of a difficult year. They played with great enthusiasm. Senior Am Kniffen said, \" It was a fun year and I had fun playing with the guys.\" It wasn't until after their last game that they realized there was no hope of playing in the region championships. Although they didn't qualify for state, they displayed a classy attitude by sticking together to the end! Everyone stares as Brandon Bingham brings the ball closer to the goal line. The Hillcrest girls' tennis team, though rebuilt, and basically playing for fun, managed to bring home the third place trophy in the state championship. Their victory was due to the fact that they worked well together, their coach, Mrs. Schmidt organized them well, and with strong players such as Jennifer Jensen, and Kim Fairbanks, it was clear to see that they would be a tough team to beat. They began the season with a loss to West Jordan, but when the pressure hit they defeated Taylorsville, Granger, Hunter, and Kearns, with only one other loss to Bingham. The team defeated much of the competition in the region tournament. Then when the state championship came they really showed what a good team was made of. Jennifer Jensen defeated a strong contender from Highland, Angela Nelson. Kim Fairbanks defeated two others in the state competition, and over all the team was very successful, bringing home the third place trophy. The team was strong, supportive, and most importantly they did their best, that makes them all champions. 72 Girls Tennis

So far this year, Hillcrest has proven to be a team with a 6-0 record in dual meets and first place in two tourna- ments. Hard work is put in by all the wrestlers. The coaches are the ones who bring everything together. The wrestlers give much credit to Coach Swayden and Coach Jones, and as Senior wrestler Brent Cotten put it, \"They have taught us to get along and to be a team.\" The hand of Don Kitchen was raised in victory as his opponent looked on in awe. \"All wrestlers work hard and have made great sacrifices for the team.\" -Shawn Whitmore, Senior Photos by Allison Jones Guys. you forgot the Twister mat! Junior Varsity Wrestling Although the Junior Varsity team has not been wrestling as long as the Varsity Team, it does not mean that they work any less. Still under the di- rection of Coach Swayden and Coach Jones, the Junior Varsity team puts in long hours of practice on improving their techniques and getting ready for tournaments. Although most of these wrestlers are sophomores, which makes for a young team, their deter- mination and hard work has paid off with an impressive record and has made them part of Hillcrest's best. Sophomore David Witkamp stated, \" There's not enough food but the wrestling is worth it. \" The sophomore wrestlers look up to their J.V. and Varsity members for the support which they are more then willing to give. \" The J.V. and Varsity members aren't stuck up they teach us instead of teasing us\" stated sophomore Telly Esplin.
