While some girls asked for permission to shave their legs, others were more daring. Tera Mitchell ended up with lots of cuts & stripes of hair that she missed with the razor. Wendy Boatwright took it as a \"personal hygiene hint\" when she received an electric blade one Christmas. Melanie Peterson wanted to be just like her older sister & started when she was seven. The question that guys forever have been asking is, \"What do girls like in a date?\" What can make it a successful thing or a flop? Here are some possible answers. Liz Granquist feels the dates which prove to be the most fun are ones that are done in large groups rather than one-on-one. Jennifer DeWaal recalls her fondest memory from this experience, \"My date got out of the car to come & open my door, slipped & fell right on his face! I couldn't help but laugh!\" Mrs. Halpin's favorite date was at a Deer Valley concert, with a blind date. She was engaged three weeks later! Experiences like school dances, football and basketball games and having great friends at school make these years at school the best. Some of the activities that have proven to be most memorable are: school dances, Burning of the H, state football and basketball games and anything else involving school spirit. For those individuals fortunate enough to be involved in such things as \"Fiddler on the Roof\", debate meets, cross country, choir, wrestling, etc. Another fun memory for most is the interesting tradition, found exclusively in Utah, of asking and answering for all of the big dances of the year. While the hard AP classes and other time consuming courses stand out in our minds, the social aspects of school are what keep most of us coming every day. 1 The assemblies were better than ever, and we mean it! Thanks to our super- duper SBQ's the school has been on their toes anticipating each new thrill. We have seen a lot of new talent and all of the creative energies have been appreciated and well worth it. The organizers of the assemblies have truly \"gone the distance\" and have set a new precedent for the years to come. From the opening, to the traditions assembly, their ingenuity was seen. Through the great camcorder medium, we saw Sammy and Sally Sophomore as never before. They were able to leave the realms of the auditorium and show us what it was like for them 6:30 in the morning. An aura of school spirit is felt throughout the student body whenever assemblies are held. Performances from the Jazz Band, Drill Team, Cheer Leaders and others add to the fun and show us what Hillcrest is all about. During the Opening Assembly, our SBO's are presented to the student body. and the beat goes OD••• One of the biggest events of the year, The Battle of the Axe, was very exciting. Because it was held at Brighton, our team faced the Bengals in their own territory. Even though we had the support of many fans and the wrestling cheerleaders, we lost. We fought hard. Andy Buhler and Travis Romney pinned their opponents but the final score was a dismal 44- 16. The Bengals won the opportuni ty to keep the axe after we had it last year. The wrestlers put in a lot of hard work making this event a winning experience for both teams. Battle Of The Jug! The biggest basketball event of the year, The Battle of the Jug, was exciting for all who participated in both the assembly, and the actual game. Started in 1969, the first year Brighton was open, the Battle of the Jug has truly become a lasting tradition. The varsity basketball team was supported by tons of fans who were all keyed up over the great pep assembly that preceded the game that day. The spotlight just outside the breeze way lured many anxious fans to cheer on the team. At first, our team was ahead making the first basket of the game. You find a replacement of course. That is what \"Lend Me A Tenor\" is all about. Just off Broadway this play kept you laughing. Everyone that was involved in this production has something to be proud of. It was so successful they had to extend it an extra day. When asked what was unique about the cast director Robin Mousley-Lujan commented, \"We took a show that was intended for a cast of twenty-five and truly created a commu- nity feeling by adding over one hundred more cast members. Mr. Hillcrest The Mr. Hillcrest assembly had a different twist this year. To start, there were activities at lunch, such as nose picking (choosing), and pie eating and legs contests. Also every candidate actually did a real talent for a change. In previous years, talents were usually goof-ups. This year we enjoyed some real talent, with great singers, piano players, comedians and guitar players. There were also many creative ideas like a puppet show and others included: Randy Yates, who wore his \"birthday suit;\" Derric Nance, who was decked out in a nice suit from the front view and naked from the back; and Matt Tullis, who ate a live gold fish during the swimsuit competition. After more than two hours of one of the best assemblies of the year, Tyler Borg was chosen to be the 1992 Mr. Hillcrest. Runners up were Derrick Nance-1st runner up and Ryan Mitchell, 2nd runner up. Pitchforks and Petticoats Husky Howl turned out to be a complete success. With tickets priced at $10.00, the dance was held on November I , 1991. Couples enjoyed an evening of such events as dining on tin foil dinners in a barn to eating spaghetti with their hands. The dance seemed to come off without a hitch and FHA did a fantastic job of decorating the girls' gym with balloons and leaves to compliment the season. Much thanks to Mrs. Pixton and members of FHA.

Mistletoe Magic .... :. Sponsered by the Choir, the Christmas dance was held on December 7, 1991. Decked out in Christmas attire from stocking hats to Christmas boxers, couples seemed to have a lot of fun , with tickets at only $5.00. Not everyone went as couples, though. TOUCHDOWN! Our team has scored! Our J.V. football team ended this year's season with a record of 5 and 4. Out of those four games, they lost by about three points each. Seven sophomores had the opportunity to play in the games, which is a great accomplishment, considering they are only sophomores. These young guys' futures look bright and promising. Wrestling has the Battle of the Axe. Basketball has the Battle of the Jug. And as of last year, volleyball has the Battle of the Nets. This is a new competition between Hillcrest and Bingham that began October 1990. During Battle of the Nets, the girls believed in \"team together\" and they knew that that was the only way they could win it for the second consecutive year. Having been defeated earlier in the year by Bingham, no one suspected that Hillcrest had any chance of winning. Because of the support of the school, Cindy Jensen's strong hitting, Ita Sapp's strong blocking, and the strong leadership of Denise Hansen, our volleyball team was able to overcome everyone's doubt and defeat the Bingham Miners. Bingham ended up taking state, which increased our volleyball team's excitement because of their earlier defeat of Bingham during the Battle of the Nets. The girls volleyball team succeeded in their goal of making it to state. For a new coach, Kim Cain, this is a really big accomplishment, and to go up against two strong schools and come within fighting range of a state seat is something to be commended for. In their matches against Skyline and Bonneville, the girls played hard and had a close match with Bonneville. The Cyprus player shut her eyes in fear when Ita Sapp spiked the ball. Ita Sapp and Sally Larsen soar on a block and keep it from crossing the first line of defense. For only consisting of six or seven girls, the J.V. Volleyball team showed a lot of team spirit. Heather Johnson and Meriah Hutson worked very hard and improved their setting ability. Allison Sheilds and Keri Sheib were always ready on the defense, and the rest of the team were ready and willing to back each other up. Coach Williams commented that \"the girls have developed good leadership qualities on the courts and they . worked well together.\" Because of their dedication, the J.V. team gained plenty of experience which will benefit them when they move on to Varsity. point KILL The sophomore volleyball team had a SPIKING year. Of the 12 games they played, they won eight. Now that's awesome. Coach Rose, who only started coaching this year, did a magnificient job. The girls were dedicated, showed up for practices, and it all payed off. An anonymous source was quoted to say \"sophomore volleyball is very good this year. I think they're better than J.V.\" And who wouldn't know better than varsity team member, Ita Sapp, who said \"They have a very strong block. The womens soccer team lost eight (count 'em, eight) seniors since last year, but the younger team played hard and ruthless. How many girls do you know that can break through a wall of oncoming players, kicking a frantic ball, and still look like the girls on the cover of Vogue at the end of the match? They must be inspired by the fashionable Coach Moizer. Anything less would be uncivilized . . .
