New And Different Another year as Husk1es brings new changes for the students. The 1st noticeable difference is the color change seen at registration . Bright or- ange. kelly green and putrid green lockers adorn the halls adding a type of blindness to anyone who gazes upon them This new color scheme was erected by someone new hmself. Mr Ted Lovato Mr. Lovato has added a lot of small th1ngs as well as big thrngs . One of the biggest things that has been constructed are our new stadium lights. The effort to get these lights was on outstanding feat and was not accomplished by JUSt one man Many people. companies and organizations contributed to making our light shrne The best things about the lights is the glow they cast around the Schick Stadium sign. which rs dedicated to DelMar Schick New thrngs hop- pen year after year. Life will always be different. The Sch1ck Stadium s1gn was ded1coted to our former pnncpol. Mr DelMar Sch1ck Th1s Sign was g1ven to the student body from the Closs of '87 We ore one of the f1rst schools 1n our d1stnct to hove the bnght stadium lights The hghts hove allowed our games to be later and therefore we hove more sup- port from the students These new colored lockers odd to the high Husky sp1nt . Here Come The Clowns They've been best friends since the womb . Sharing imaginations that no one can fathom. They perform antics; they do impersonations; the two of them can make the auditorium sound as if you were in a tropical jungle. They could be locked alone together in a room and never miss the rest of the world because they are so enter- taining they'd never be bored. They slide on their backs, butts, stomachs, head and anything else they can come up with . You might be fooled at times when Max pretends to have a seizure or Dave pretends to be dead . Max Lang and Dave Geertson are definitely the most unusual people around . They can really show people how to have a lot of fun . 14/Unusual People

J.V. Cheer ''Perfection' ' What do you get when you add dedication. spirit and enthu- siasm? A great J.V . squad! Led by head cheerleader. Shelly Allen, the squad has practiced and worked very hard to reach for perfection. Although there aren't as many fans at the J.V. games as the Varsity, these cheer- leaders scream, yell. and cheer to get everyone excited about the game even if we are losing. These bubbly juniors seem to burst with energy every time they get into those pleated skirts and green and w hite sweaters. This future Varsity squad brings ex- citement and high-spirited ener- gy that can only be our Junior Varsity Cheerleaders. V. Cheer \"Right Moves\" Who are those bouncing, hop- ping, beautiful chicks who stand on the sidelines at our football and basketball games? They are the Varsity cheerleaders that boost the spirit of the school everytime they get in front of the \\ crowd. Led by Head Cheerleader Tiffany Blair, they showed us their moves perfected by lots of prac- tice and hard work. They always kept the team's spirit up through- out the games. They started in the summer learning cheers and crowd- pleasing formations that took them months to perfect. What would Hillcrest be without cheerleaders? Just another school without school spirit or at- tention getters standing on the sidelines. They are really some- thing to be proud of. Top Row· Kirsten Kynaston, Ang1e Konttgts, Robyn Huish. They practiced during the sum- mer and sometimes on week - ends . They also had a class 6th period to help perfect their rou- tines for the upcoming games. They spend a lot of time planning out what is going to be per- formed at each different activity . To help boost spirit they wear their uniforms, have pep assem- blies, and cheer by Senior Bench in the morning. If there is still any doubt who these girls are, they are the Hillcrest Songleaders. Jazz Band The jazz band practice very hard during the year Here are some students prac t1c1ng for the1r performances in the school musical Jazzy What to my wondering ears does appear but music - pure jazz. Am I in New Orleans or what? Jazz. sheer jazz. not from the New Orleans but from the Hillcrest Jazz Band. The sweet saxophone singing in the early morning light; the guitar humming along side with the drums in the background keeping the beat; oh, and listen to the trombone slidding along gracefully to its notes that it sings with clarity. It may sound easy though it is hard work and that is what makes it so good. \"It's not easy getting up at four in the morning after working until two at night to practice at 6:30. But believe me it's worth it and the audience lets you remember that.\" says Kenneth Jackson the back-up drummer for this year's band . The Jazz Band may not have a set class except at 6:30 a .m . but try and tell that with the way that they play during assem- blies . We may not be in New Orleans but just close your eyes and let the Hillcrest Jazz Band take you there. Front row Carmen Lopez. Troy Holtby. Rachel Curry. Andy Warr. Symphony Band \"Cool!!\" It was half-time at the game and the crowd sat. like bumps on a log, waiting for the game to begin . Suddenly an in- credible sound arose from the far end of the gym. The crowd started cheering and jumping around as they realized that the sound was coming from the Symphonic Band. The Symphonic Band. otherwise known as the Pep Bnad to some. is a group of talented students who help bring a lot of pride and spirit to Hillcrest. This group not only plays at home bas- ketball and football games. but they also perform at various festivals and concerts through the year. 1st row Carmen Lopez. Gwen Heffelfinger. Andy Warr. I mean if you want to be good at the music you have to practice two or more hours a night.\" claims Angela Warner. a member of the orchestra. Angela also says that the orchestra has improved. \"Mr. Northway enjoys teaching the class and wants to make us better and that's part of what makes him a good teacher.\" she continues. \"I like hearing the orchestra play.\" says Kimberely Mower. \"They are a worthwhile part of what Hillcrest means .\" 41

Stage Crew \\\\Spot Light// Lights, camera, action. Stage Crew works very hard between the plays and assemblies, they earn their recognition. Although Mike Neff says, \"The only time we get noticed is when we screw up!\" But then Brian Bergstrom says, \"It's nice to be a part of the school activities, if something goes wrong behind stage we are the only ones who know.\" Accu- rately speaking, it would be safe to say that these hard working men need to be recognized a lot more than they are. So remember when the lights go on and the action begins, its not what is on stage that counts. It's what's behind the scenes . From right to leff Paul Woodhurst, Earl Harding. Brion Bergstrom. Hillcrest's ski club wouldn't . Every member awaits the first snowfall with intense anticipation. Each year Mr. Watrous, the ski club advi- sor, plans a ski trip that is full of the best of everything ... skiing, of course. Just by looking at the picture, one can tell that it is in the highest social standing to be a member of ski club . So ... if you've been following the adventures of the gang . .. the next adventure could be yours! My love, you just keep getting better!!! Art \\\\Stroke// The sig nificance of the Art Club at Hill- crest is to help students gain an appre- ciation for art and give recognition to talented artists. Foreign Ex . A New World Eight foreign exchange students coming from many parts of the world were introduced to a new culture. new faces, and a different language and lifestyle. This experience is great for both Hillcrest students and the foreign exchange students. Many of Hillcrest students enjoy hearing about their lifes- tyles, and listening to their different lan- guages. These students have exper- ienced many new sports such as snows- kiing, waterskiing, ice skating, racket- ball, football, and basketball. \"I am learning how to snow and waterski, I love it!\" Exclaimed Simone Pereira.
