Sweat and pain are words and feelings famihar to these ladies. Keying in on the idea that basketball is a team sport, each person works individually in order to make the team flow easily. Members of the team are as follows: Rychelle Barton, 12 grade; Leslie Varoz, 12; Wendy Mclllece12; Wendy Webber 12; Robin Webber ll; Becky Engman ll; Cammille Hansen ll; Lisa Fullwood ll; Audrey Richards 10; Heather Sonne 10; Marcy Randall 10; Natalie Ferre 10; Nikki Eyre 9. When Coach Wilson was asked to make a statement to sum up this year's team She said, \"This JS one of the funnest teams I've coached in years! A Stunning Future Rising Gir1 J.V. Basketball With the growth in girls sports and Up and up and up 11 goes, and where it lands nobody knows. the numbers out to watch, younger girls of basketball, must be excited with what the future holds for them. There are many rewards that follow along with coaching a team. The JV's coach, Withams, feels this team has promise. They could possibly beat many varsity teams. She states, \"They're one of the best JV teams we've had at Hillcrest. They are gutsy, aggressive and they understand the idea of playing together.'' Without the pressure varsity teams are faced with, such as state play-offs, these younger girls will be able to grow and strengthen for the years to come. The girls on this years team are as follows: Natalie Ferre 10, Audrey Richards 10, Carla Johnson 10, Nikki Eyre 9, Lisa Fullwood ll, Melissa Duncan 10, Jennifer Scott 9, Robin Webber ll, Susie Saunders 9, Heather Sonne 10, Camile Hansen ll. Is It All For Love? Boy~s Tennis Tennis is an individual sport requiring prachce, speed, agility, precision, and skill. Combining the efforts of all of the players, with the hopes of being number one, we played to the best of our ability. Long hours of practice and terrific coaching from Coach Smith added to the greatness of the team. Is it all for love? The answer is no. Whether we win or lose, we know that the long hours of practice and the determinahon put forth by the team will always be remembered. BOY'S TEN IS/ 165

Boys Track . .See Dick Run . When the snow finally began to melt, and the lawn was alive again with Huskies cravmg a little sun, we saw a new breed arnve. In silky shorts and tennis shoes with spikes on the bottom, came the Hillcrest Track Team. Out of the gymnastics room we saw them, awaiting the first meet. The Boys track was quite popular this year as some 118 boys in polyester orange, green, and while suits took to the field. Endurance was a must and d you had enthusiam you had it made. Competing at local track meets we all noticed the young Hillcrest Huskies pulling up from behind and giving it their best. And 11 all wasn 't work- there were limes of humor, times of celebration. Terilyn Shuman, a senior, had this to say about the Track team, \"I like to see the team at work, their uniforms are great, they represent our school well. It's always great to see a track guy Jogging by in their shorts with them long legs! Whether they were pole vaulting or JUSI taking on the sprint, we all stood and honored the huskies, men on track. As the season ended and once again we saw the close of the track season we turn our heads with great expectations for the future. 168/BOYS TRACK

See Jane Run . .Girls In the distance we see a shadow. An Image left behind. This isn't the shade Track from some tree or even from a school building, its the girl's track team. Often they have been overlooked, just sat behind the boys. But this year they came from behind that shadow and all the school heard them. Not only did they compete, they conquered. They looked at the odds and they overcame them. Having a young team we saw lots of enthusiasm to learn and grow. Working beside the guys everyday they felt their loss as well as the guys. Together they bonded a group of people and became a team. Each individual girl put forth her best. Practicing each day during 7th and putting in countless hours of their own hard work the girls showed us great performances at the meets. As the year came to an end we watched the Girls Track Team slowly disappear into the halls of Hillcrest High becoming like the rest of the students at Hillcrest, shadows behind the School! 170/GIRLS TRACK

Harvey Husky There's Nothing Like An Original r-----------------------------------------------------------~ Next to the man with the cigar and matching socks, and above the stud with so many pins that his jacket sags, we find her, the spirit of Hillcrest in white fur. No, it's not a Nordstrom's best , it's a Hillcrest original. Encaged inside an oversized dog, she comes alive. Through the heat of a long football game which was slowly leading to a disasterous defeat , she cheered the team on. Little kids looking for adventure wandered away from their parents and slid slowly upon their prey. With a sharp tug of her tail. the giggling kids scampered away disappearing into the stands. Harvey, with her tail in hand, smiled and waved to her new found friends. In the sorrow of defeat or the happiness of coming out ahead, we see her supporting the mighty Huskies. As the final-buzzer sounds, the crowd slowly disappears into the night, Jennifer Hills, our mascot, emerges from the now silent suit with piles of homework and a craving for a Big Mac, Awaiting the next days adventures.
