Don Bullock, Paul Singleton, Craig Wallace, Pat Reams, Jeanine Johnson, Rosemary Morlor, Trudy Warnes, Matilda Leyba , Jim Crawford, Vicky Vernon, and David Raymond view unusual Christmas cards from Spain. SPANISH CLUB Involving themselves in more school activities than in previous years, the Spanish club became one of the largest and best attended clubs at Hillcrest. By participating in the Foreign Language Assem- bly and a joint language party, and sending stu- dents to the B.Y.U. Foreign Language Fair to com- pete for honors in Spanish, the Spanish Club help- ed students to become more fluent in the language and to learn Spanish customs and traditions. Analyzing a Spanish novel, The Hat with Three Points, are Spanish Club officers: Mrs. lasella, advisor; Helen Montoya, historian; Steve Cottingham, reporter; Susan Morley, president; Leslie Bell, secretary; and David Cottingham, vice-president. Watching Candy Carlson and Carl Templin demonstrate a Span- ish dance are John Bullock, Marsha Leak, Don Faulkner, Mary Russell, Jay Rogerson, Maurine Sorenson, Larry LaCome, Anna Copley, Lynne Ruhlander, Manual Trujillo, and Carlos Madsen. .----~~---------- 97

STUDENTS F ECT UNITY Each individual was a part of the whole - the whole that was Hillcrest and her games, her assemblies, her class-room activ- ities. The individual was unique in his own way. He was the bewildered sophomore trying to find C-203 on the first day of school; he was the junior waiting impatiently to be measured for his school ring; he was the senior sitting Silently upon the stage on graduation night. In his associations with others, the individual found the joy and achievement that was Hillcrest. He found the joy of participating on the Foreign Language As- sembly or attending the Junior Prom. He found the achieve- ment of completing final exams or memorizing dates for a his- tory test. Through scholastic endeavor and extra-curricular activities, the individual made Hillcrest a part of himself, and himself part of the traditions that will live as Hillcrest. 99

PAT KNIBBE Student Body President Good-humor and wit, and a famous campaign slogan of \"Vote for Flame\" were traits which helped Pat gain the office of stu- dent body president. His outstanding leadership in both athle- tics and academics, his agreeable nature, and his ready smile earned him the respect and the friendship of the student body and faculty. Throughout the entire year, Pat was the host at all the assemblies and acted as the voice of Hillcrest in meetings with other schools. Though the jobs as president were numer- ous, Pat's eagerness and ability to complete them were signs of his dedication to Hillcrest and its \"Year To Meet The Chal- 100 lenge.\"

SENIORS Senior - there is a certain finality in the word; sensing this, the seniors worked even harder to make their final year at Hillcrest a success. Unified in spirit, they presented the senior assembly, planned the Senior Hop, crammed for college entrance exams, and worked toward graduation. They were the ones who challenged the juniors to a tug-of- war, who helped the sophomores to under- stand the true meaning of school spirlt, and who brought additional honors to Hillcrest through their academic and athletic achieve- ments. Altogether, Hillcrest's 1968 senior year - both exciting and challenging - brought the last of the four-year Huskies to the climax of their high school careers.

JUNIORS Through planning the Junior Prom, selecting class rings, or presenting their annual talent assembly, the Junior Class had an active voice in the affairs of the school. Nearly six hundred strong, they made themselves felt in the school's extra-curricular activities, com- petitive athletic events, and academic pro- grams. As Juniors, they· formed the link be- tween the sophomores and seniors and made the classes, who are separate in name, united in spirit.

SOPHOMORES Bringing with them the enthusiasm and excite- ment of beginning high school for the first time, Hillcrest's six hundred fifty sophomores became a unified part of the traditions and memories of the school. They were the ones who lent humor to the opening day of school as they wandered lost in the halls. They were the ones who turned out enmasse at football and basketball games, participated in the annual Sophomore Class Assembly, and sponsored the traditional' Foot- ball Dance. Meeting all challenges, both scho- lastically and athletically, the sophomores quickly became an integral part of the student body. Nancy Bolliger Secretary
