Prof. Rajinder S. Chauhan Vice Chancellor Himachal Pradesh University It gives me immense pleasure in penning my words for this edition of UIIT’s annual magazine “ANIMUS“, a collective effort of the UIIT magazine committee. UIIT is a premier institute in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology providing quality education to students across India. The publication of a magazine is one of the most important activities and contributes towards the all-round development of the students in the college bringing out the best in each one of them and giving them an oppoutunity to showcase their talents. It preserves the college memories of the students within its ambits. Moreover it aids in highlighting various achievements of the institution. I feel proud to see how the students have handled everything so well and have projected a professional image, preparing themselves for the practical world outside. I wish the magazine committee all the very best and good luck for the forthcoming editions.

Prof. Manu Sood Director, University Institute of Information Technology, Himachal Pradesh University I am immensely delighted to present to you ‘ANIMUS’, the 3rd edition of the magazine of our Institute which promises not only to entertain you as readers but also to enlighten you. ‘ANIMUS’ presents an account of all the activities undertaken during the session 2016-17 at our Institute and marks the culmination of another beautiful session at our temple of learning. It showcases not only the unparallel talent and innovative ideas of young minds of the UIIT family; but their diversity of minds, thoughts, imagination, creativity and skills. This issue is truly beaming with positive energy of enormous enthusiasm. This magazine is a huge and enormous effort and a vital link as well in the process of building the engineers of tomorrow. The task like this opens up the vistas of opportunities to do a little introspection and look back on the accomplishments of the year that was. In addition, it generates the positive vibes from the satisfying and successful tasks carried out during the last session. This exactly is what we have achieved ultimately! This edition of the magazine has undergone a sea change as compared to its previous versions. I express my deep sense of admiration for all those associated with the task of producing this beautiful magazine and extend my best wishes for the sparkling future of each and every individual at UIIT.

Prof. Wamik Azmi Coordinator UIIT, Himachal Pradesh University I am happy to learn that the University Institute of Information Technology, HP University, Shimla is bringing out its annual magazine 2017 for the session 2016-2017. An Institute magazine helps record the curricular and extra- curricular journey of the Institute and provides an opportunity to the students to showcase their talent and explore their creative potential. Alongside academic and curricular inputs, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities help shape the overall personality of the student. I extend my greetings and best wishes to the teachers and students of the UIIT and wish their endeavours my very best.

Amit Kapoor President, Engineering Technology Students Association (ETSA) On behalf of the entire ETSA, I am pleased to introduce to you the fourth edition of our institute’s annual magazine: “Animus 2017”. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Magazine Committee, faculty, staff, and friends. Today, the call emanates from a world that has experienced an explosion of knowledge. It is a world that has developed wondrous technologies that link continents. Our magazine committee is uniquely capable of answering this call, of speaking to this world. I would especially like to thank the magazine committee for their extra efforts to bring the magazine to this level. These pupils are a new generation of leaders —men and women who will be capable of shaping the future with vision—with a sense of calling and with concern for all of the ETSA. We pursue challenges because it is a worthy goal for any college, but particularly for UIIT, where we work in a dynamic equilibrium with its social, scientific, ecological and economic environment, striving continuously for excellence in education, research and technological services —challenges are inspirations. We continue to create and sustain intellectually challenging programs, academic study, educational tours, industrial exposure, placement drives and to advance our commitment to provide a vibrant, diverse and supportive campus environment.

Animus 2017 17 BATTERY Festivals losing their sanctity Festival as defined by the Wikipedia is an event ordinarily celebrated by a community, centering some characteristic aspect of the community religious or traditional. Festivals which were meant to be a time when people came together for a celebration and to rejuvenate souls, have today lost their sanctity. Festivals which were supposed to relieve stress and give an individual a break from the daily routine are becoming a major cause of stress among the common people. Today the meaning of festivals has changed from what it was a few years ago. In olden times festivals meant happiness, patriotism and a time to know our culture and heritage. Today it means gift holidays and lavish parties. Today materialism has crept into our society so deeply that it is making it hollow, day by day. This materialism has not only deteriorated our values , but is also burning a hole into common man’s pocket. The costly gifts, lavish parties etc which our just a way of show off, disturb a common man’s budget. To save ourselves and our future generations from this devil of materialism, we need to connect with our roots. We need to inculcate values in ourselves and our future generations. - Sharish CSE-1st year

32 Animus 2017 FEAR All of us have experienced fear once in our life. Everyone is afraid of something, especially from the fear of failure. The fear of failure can be immobilizing. Fears develop when we refuse to get out of our comfort zone. We don’t wish to take risks and face the challenges. If we let our fears control our lives then soon they become a partofourpersonality. So it is better to face them. Sometimes a former experience fills our heart with fear and we try to resist doing that task. But conquering fears is what makes life meaningful. We must work upon our negative aspects so as to convert them into our strengths. For this, willpower and continuous efforts are a must. These factors will result in improvement of not o nly o ur p ersonality but also our p erception. Finding a chance and accepting it gives us a sense of satisfaction and we are able to overcome our fears. Not giving up easily will inspire us to put in more efforts and brush aside our fears. Positive thinking is an incredibly powerful way to build self-confidence and have a firm mindset. Never surrender to fear because luck favours those who have the courage of pursuing theirdreams. ~BHAVESH IT-1ST YEAR
