350+ Event Summary: DELEGATES Sultanate’s focus on risks and ways to address them secures it first rank among Arab states and 4th worldwide in Global Cyber Security Index 2017 (GCI) 25+ published by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations’ specialised agency for information and communication technologies. The Sultanate SPEAKERS secured its high rank in the index, which measure each nation’s level of cyber security preparedness, through its focus on the five main pillars of cyber security — 25+ legal, technical, organisational, capacity building and cooperation — according to Engineer Badar Ali Al Salehi, Director General of Oman National CERT (Computer COUNTRIES Emergency Readiness Team).Regional CERTS Considering cyber resilience as the key, and continuing the success of the previous editions, ITU- Arab Regional Cybersecurity Center managed and hosted by the 16+ Information Technology Authority (ITA), represented by OCERT hosted the “6th Annual Regional Cybersecurity Summit” in collaboration with Nispana Innovative SPONSORS & Platforms and WPS. The event focused on the theme “Towards Efficient Cyber EXHIBITORS Resilience” and covered a range of topics, highlighting the current trends and future threats, which are affecting the organizations & business effectiveness. The 2-day summit brought about 350+ delegates of Arab delegates from regional cybersecurity centers and a number of officials and specialists from government and private entities as well as the most promising and emerging regional & global firms, from critical national Infrastructure sectors including Energy & Utilities, Defense & Aviation, Financial Institutions, Hospitality, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Government Institutions, Telecom & Law enforcement agencies to understand innovations in cyber security and educate implement the best policies and practices to combat cyber threats. Technology solution providers showcased their credible case studies & demos. The first day of the summit covered a range of topics, delivered by prominent speakers, highlighting the current trends and future threats, which are affecting the organizations & business effectiveness. It also emphasized the significance of developing and adopting the best practices in cybersecurity and stressed the importance of further collaboration for building collaborative regional and global strategies, regulations, and policies to compact cyber threats proactively. Additionally, it discussed the Importance role for media to play in cybersecurity. The summit’s Keynote speech was given by Donald William Freese, DeputyAssistant Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), USA highlighted the importance of understanding the key elements contributing towards building a cyber safe nation. The 2nd key note speech were entitled Cyber Resiliency: Best Policy & Regulatory Practices, delivered by Mr. Mike Yeh, Assistant General Counsel,Microsoft, Who talked about the digital transformation and steps governments can take to ensure that the most secure technology is being used in critical industries, particularly as technology moves to cloud-based solutions. He also outlined steps governments can and should take, in partnership with the private sector, to build capacity, detect threats, and protect against cyber threats. Whereas the second day’s agenda shed light on the current challenges facing the critical infrastructure sectors such as banking, healthcare and education as well as the recruitment challenge in cybersecurity. It also emphasized the need for building capabilities in cybersecurity and employ the right expertise by defining the right hiring processes. The 6th Regional Cyber Security Summit, aimed at Creating shared learning and dialogue regarding cybersecurity challenges and issues, Facilitating the exchange of information, ideas, solutions, and emerging practices that could improve cybersecurity posture as well as Identifying current priority areas in cybersecurity at the local, regional and international levels. In addition, the summit sought to enhance Cross border collaboration with government, industry and critical infrastructure stakeholders that will impact global preparedness.
