Two halves make a whole. Numerator Numbers of the form Denominator are called fractions. The total number of equal parts into which a whole is divided is called the denominator. The number of such equal parts taken is called the numerator. Similarly, each of the three equal parts of a whole is called a third. Example 5: Find two fractions equivalent to the given fractions. Solution: a) 2 b) 33 11 66 To find fractions equivalent to the given fractions, we either multiply or divide both the numerator and the denominator by the same number. a) 2 11 W e see that 2 and 11 do not have any common factors.
