Road accidents are on the rise. Report &articles on these are a common feature of the newspaper everyday. Write an article to be published in a newspaper giving your views on the frequency of road accidents, their causes and how they can be prevented. Escalating Road Accidents One serious road accident in the country occurs every minute. 16 people die on Indian roads every hour. 16 children die daily on Indian roads. 5 lives end on Delhi's roads daily. In 2013, there were 1,37,000 people killed; in 2014, 1,54,000; and in 2015 the number has further increased by 8.1% in the first 6 months itself. Aren't these statistics given by Transport Research Wing of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways scary? Why is it that road accidents have increased to such a disastrous level? We need to introspect about them. Most of the accidents are due to drunken driving, lack of awareness of traffic rules, driving while speaking on cell phones and crossing of speed limits. Unless stringent action is taken by the Government, things would not change. Rules need to be imp l e m e n t e d i n a p r o p e r way. Araku is a hill station 120 km from the city of Visakhapatnam, nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Ghats. As it is 2990 ft above sea level, the temperature there was around 8 - 9 degrees. Oh!
