Spelling & Grammar Have you ever noticed the red and green wavy underlines while typing a letter? These are the spelling and grammatical mistakes in the document. By default, Word checks the spelling and grammar of any written document. Words typed in the document are compared to the ones that are available in the dictionary file. Any word that is not present in the dictionary is marked as incorrect. These spellings and grammar are indicated by coloured wavy lines.(Fig. 7.3) • Red line indicates a misspelt word. • Green line indicates a grammatical error. • Blue line indicates a contextual spelling error. E.g. If we write Deer Mr Sen at the beginning of a mail, deer is a contextual error as ‘dear’ is the correct form of the word. The word is spelt correctly but used in the wrong context. To correct it: STEP 1: Right click on the word. STEP 2: A shortcut menu pops up which displays the suggested words. STEP 3: If you feel that the word typed is correct then click on Ignore All. Draw the shape in the given box. CS FD 50 RT 120 FD 50 RT 120 FD 50RT 120 JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 79 73 15-12-2017 12:06:41

In this lesson We will learn many more additional LOGO commands such as Pen, Color, Print and Repeat commands. We will also learn the arithmetic operations in LOGO. When we work with LOGO on the computer, a triangle is seen in the centre of the screen. This triangle is known as TURTLE. Let’s meet our friend, the TURTLE. The centre of the screen is the Turtle’s home. The TURTLE moves all over the screen on our order. Whenever TURTLE moves on the screen, it leaves a trail. More on LOGO Commands We have learnt a few Primitives in the previous class. Let’s learn some more commands. SETH command is used to set the turtle’s head in any direction without using RT or LT commands. The SETH command is followed by a number which determines the number of degrees the turtle’s head will move. Format: SETH<space><number> We can use any number for setting the head of the turtle from any starting positions. SETH 90 turns the turtle right, SETH 180 turns it down and SETH 270 turns it left–all from the HOME position. Refer to the direction wheel. 74 15-12-2017 12:06:42 JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 80

PEN and COLOR Commands We can move the turtle even without drawing anything. We can also change the color and size of the turtle’s pen. All this can be done using the Pen commands in LOGO. PENUP (PU) Command is used to lift the pen of the turtle up from the screen. As a result, the turtle does not draw anything. Format: PU Example: FD 40 RT 90 PU FD 40 PENDOWN (PD) Command puts the pen of the turtle down on the screen. The turtle can then start drawing again when given the command. Format: PD Example: FD 100 RT 90 PU FD 80 RT 90 PD FD 100 PENERASE (PE) Command makes the turtle work like an eraser. The turtle starts erasing instead of drawing as it moves. Format: PE Example: FD 100 PE BK 40 PENPAINT(PPT) Command is used after the PU and PE commands so that the turtle starts drawing again. Format: PPT Example: FD 100 PE BK 40 PPT FD 60 SETPENSIZE Command sets the pen size of the turtle. The size is specified in term of height and width. Format: SETPENSIZE [Num 1 Num 2] Example:FD 100 RT 90 SETPENSIZE [6 6] FD 100 RT 90 FD 50 Do You Know? The height specified in SETPENSIZE command has no significant effect on the turtle’s pen. Only the thickness of the pen is changed. PENNORMAL Command sets the turtle’s pen back to normal mode. After using any commands such as PU, PE or SETPENSIZE. We can use the PENNORMAL command to make it behave normally. Format: PENNORMAL Example: FD 100 RT 90 SETPENSIZE [6 6] FD 100 PENNORMAL RT 90 FD 50 SETPENCOLOR (SETPC) Command changes the color of the turtle’s pen. Colors are represented by numbers as given below. Color Codes in MSW LOGO 0 Black 1 Blue 2 Light Green 3 Light Blue 4 Red 5 Mauve 6 Yellow 7 White 8 Brown 9 Light Brown 10 Green 11 Cyan 12 Peach 13 Violet 14 Orange 15 Grey 76 15-12-2017 12:06:42 JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 82

Let’s Practice Try the following commands and draw a green color mountain. SETPENSIZE [7 7] SETPC 5 RT 45 FD 50 RT 90 FD 50 LT 90 FD 50 RT 90 FD 50 LT 90 FD 50 RT 90 FD 50 SETSCREENCOLOR (SETSC) Command sets the background color of the Graphics screen. For example, SETSC 4 changes the background color to red. FILL Command fills a closed figure with the color of the brush. The color of the brush is set using SETFLOODCOLOR Command. Try both the above commands and check how these commands work. Do You Know? You can also set the pen size, color brush color and the screen color by choosing the appropriate options from the Set menu on the menu bar. PRINT Command PRINT command writes any text or number on the Logo recall list box. It takes only one input at a time. The input can be a number or text. Example: PRINT 50 This command will print the number 50 in the Commander window. If you want to print text, then follow this command in Input Box. PRINT “TEXT (or) PRINT [TEXT] Example: PRINT “LOGO The PRINT command can be written in short form as PR. So, PRINT 50 can be written as PR 50. If the text is more than one word then square brackets are compulsory. JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 83 77 15-12-2017 12:06:42

Arithmetic With LOGO Arithmetic operations can also be performed in LOGO. The symbols used in arithmetic operations are: Addition Operation: For addition, you can use sum or its operator (+) symbol. For Example: Add 40 and 50. Method 1: PR number + number or PR 40+50 Method 2: PR (SUM 40 50 60) Method 3: FD 40+50 Subtraction Operation: This operation is used to find the difference of two numbers. For Example: Subtract 40 from 50 Method 1: PR number – number or PR 50-40 Method 2: FD number – number or FD 50-40 Product Operation: This command will give the product of two numbers. For Example: Multiply 5 with10. Method 1: PR number*number or PR 5*10 Method 2: PR PRODUCT number number or PR PRODUCT 5 10 Quotient Operation: This command divides the first number with the second number and returns the result as a quotient. It will take two numbers as input. For Example: Divide 30/6 Method 1: PR number/number or PR 30/6 Method 2: PR QUOTIENT number number or PR QUOTIENT 30 6 REPEAT Command The REPEAT command is used as a shortcut in place of writing out the repeated commands. It saves a lot of time and effort. Instead of writing the same command again and again, we just write it once and specify the number of times it has to be repeated. 78 15-12-2017 12:06:42 JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 84

Consider this example: F D 60 RT 90 FD 60 RT 90 FD 60 RT 90 FD 60 RT 90 This will draw a square. We can write the commands below. REPEAT 4 [FD 60 RT 90] Glossary 1. Fill command: It fills a closed figure with the color of the brush. 2. PENUP Command: It lifts up the turtle’s pen up from the Graphics screen so that it does not draw anything. 3. P ENDOWN Command: It puts down the pen on the screen and the turtle starts drawing again as it moves. 4. PENERASE Command: It makes the turtle work like an eraser. P ENNORMAL Command: It sets the turtle’s pen back to the normal mode. 5. P ENPAINT Command: It is used after the PE and PU command so that the turtle starts drawing again. 6. P RINT Command: It is used to write anything in the Commander window. 7. Arithmetic operation: It is the mathematical work done on numbers. SETPENCOLOR command: It sets the color of the turtle’s pen. 8. SETPENSIZE command: It sets the size of the turtle’s pen in pixels. SETSCREENCOLOR command: It sets the color of the background of the 9. Graphics Screen. JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 85 79 15-12-2017 12:06:42

Terms Related to The Internet World Wide Web (WWW): The World Wide Web consists of billions of documents on the internet that are linked to each other and are accessed using a browser. We think that the internet and the World Wide Web is the same. But they are actually not the same thing. The Internet is the physical network of computers all over the world. The World Wide Web is a virtual network of websites connected by hyperlinks (or “links”). Web Page: Web page is a document on World Wide Web having text, images, videos, sounds, animations and links to other pages. Hyperlink: Hyperlink is the highlighted text on web page, which on clicking connects to other web pages. They may be underlined or of a different color. Website: A collection of web pages related to each other is called a website. Example: www.yahoo.com, www.rediff.com URL: Each web page has a unique address called Uniform Resource Locator (URL). We locate a web page by its URL. Home Page: The first page we see when we enter a website is called its home page. Net Surfing: Moving from one website to another is known as net surfing Let Us Do 2: Write the full forms: • MODEM _____________________________________________ • ISP __________________________________________________ • WWW _______________________________________________ • URL _________________________________________________ Do You Know? Email (or electronic mail) allows us to send and receive messages to and from anyone with an email address, anywhere in the world. Multimedia Hey friends! Do you play games on your computer? I know you also listen to songs and watch movies on it.. So, how are you able to do all these activities on a computer? This all is possible through Multimedia. Multimedia is a combination of text, sound, picture, animation and video. It is now a means of presenting information on computer rather than the traditional media (i.e., text, graphics, drawings and images). Applications of Multimedia Multimedia has improved our lives in many ways. 1. Education: Learning has become more interesting and effective with the use of multimedia in education. Encyclopedias, directories, dictionaries and electronic books are common multimedia references. Computer based Training programs and CD – ROMs are created using multimedia. 2. Entertainment industry: These industries produce computer games, and develop animations or special effects for cartoons and movies. 3. Scientific research: New finding can help the researchers to improve the condition of sick people. 4. Business: In business, multimedia applications are used in advertising products. It is also used in video conferencing. Many companies nowadays develop and distribute catalogues in the form of a CD-ROM as it is more interesting to the consumers. 88 15-12-2017 12:06:43 JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 94

5. Art: Artists use multimedia elements by combining drawing and animation. 6. Medicine: doctors can practice or be trained in performing high-risk operations by using virtual surgery. 7. Engineering: Computer-Aided Design or CAD is used to view the design from many aspects and improve on it before production. A multimedia file can be any computer fil that plays audio and video, audio only, or video only. Some examples of popular multimedia file include the .mp3 audio file .mp4, video, and .avi video, and .wmv files Let Us Do 3: The five components of multimedia are ____________________, __________________________, ______________________, ____________________,__________________________ Glossary 1. Network: A group or system of interconnected computers, people or things. 2. Video conference: is a live, visual connection between two or more people in separate locations for the purpose of communication. 3. Computer-based training (CBT): Any course of instruction whose primary means of delivery is a computer. 4. Virtual: is anything not physically existing but made by software to appear to do so. 5. Wi-Fi: is a technology that uses radio waves to provide network connectivity. 6. Animation: is a simulation of movement created by displaying a series of pictures, or frames. Cartoons on television is one example of animation. 7. Fibre optic: An optical fiber or fibre optic is a flexible transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic with diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair. Light signals can be sent with very little loss of strength. JSNR_181310004-_BGM_CSGK-G4-Integrated Book-Computers+GK-FY_WK_Text.pdf 95 89 15-12-2017 12:06:43
