You will need the following. • Map of a city or a village • Cardboard sheet • Cardboard boxes • Chart paper • Green paper • Twigs • Modelling clay • Paint • Markers • Scissors • Paintbrushes • Ice cream sticks • Glue Follow the given steps to create your model. 1. L ook at pictures of interesting and unique designs of cities and villages to understand how these places look. You can look at the following examples. 2. L ook at a map of a city/village. Draw a plan of a city/village you would like to create on the cardboard with the help of a marker. Think of the different places and buildings that should be included. Mark them on the cardboard. For example, huts, houses, shops, schools, parks, playgrounds. Mark streets, buildings, water bodies and green areas. 3. Paint parks and other leafy areas green. Paint streets grey or black. Add footpaths and paint them brown. Paint water bodies such as ponds, rivers and lakes blue. 4. Make the different buildings for your model city/village by painting different cardboard boxes or by covering them with chart paper of different colours. You can also make blocks of cardboard and paint them accordingly to create buildings. Add details such as windows and doors with more paint or markers. 5. Make a large community hall where members of the panchayat would meet. 6. P aste the buildings on places you had marked before. Add plant life such as trees and bushes with tissue paper and twigs. Press a small ball of brown clay onto the cardboard base for each tree that you want to make. Stick a twig into the clay. Stick a piece of green paper on top of the twig. 7. Add labels to the town to show directions such as north, south, east and west as well as streets and building names. 8. Draw and paint different community helpers on paper. Paste them on to ice cream sticks and place them around the city. 9. On a chart paper, write a paragraph to describe the city/village.
