With them we can live in peace… - Thought João Metido. - That’s right! The children! - Said João Espichado. The three of them went out to find the ones who don’t think or live the war. The sol- diers got to a house that belong to Mr. Thinhands, director of a global and very powerful company, responsible for the development and production of electronic goods that were used to build hospital equipments as well as precisely destructive guns. Even thought he was the owner of the company he li- ked being called director. He had a lot of power over the people and the governments; he mainly had a lot of money. Mr. Thinhands almost chocked when he realized three tin soldiers on the table where we was having breakfast, right next to the coffee pot. Luckily he didn’t find them inside of the coffee pot, because the soldiers didn’t know how to swim and the liquid must have been really hot. - That is crazy… - said Mr. Thin- hands - they advertise everything at the newspaper nowadays! They even put three tin soldiers inside.
45 - Mr. thinhands looked attentive at them, holding them in his hands and spinning Os 422 soldadinhos de chumbo do senhor general in between his fingers, João Espichado was the first one to notice the shine on the di- rector’s eyes. Where he had seen that shine before? It wasn’t at the Old Lady . - All men ready to attack? - The order came suddenly. The three were placed behind the coffee pot and nee- ded to go forward and return just like they did with the old general Aragon. João Es- pichado remembered where he had seen that particular shine. It was nothing new for them, it was just like being with the general. - Now I know why the wars exist: people want power at any cost. The desire to rule, to decide... leads people to war. - Said João Espichado. Mr. director Thinhands was very excited. He attacked and defended, shot ambus- hed. He started a real war with the three tin soldiers. When he served him another cup of coffee, the three could enjoy the moment and change the scene. João Espichado jumped inside the pocket of Mr. Thinkhands coat, the other two hid in the big breakfast table. Inside the coat pocket, João Espi- chado went to Mr. thinhands global company, a man with a lot of power. For João Espichado, the wars happen because some people want to have power at any cost. They fight and kill to have power over others. And just like that, he stayed inside the pocket during the whole day. By being along with a man with so much power and prestige that produced electronic goods that were used to heal and also to destruct. He also heard Mr. Thinhands say to himself: - The products I make are harmless. Who uses them to kill know what they are doing, but I don’t want that. It’s not my fault what people do with my products. João Espichado realized during the day the power that man had over people. However, after all, he didn’t use his power for the war, deep down, the power he had was to serve his employees. Espichado realized that the can be used to help and not necessarily to destruct. His theory had gone down the drain. At the evening, he met his com- panions again. They were waiting for him anxiously. João Espichado told them all at once so he wouldn’t forget his ideas:
O Início de uma Mudança46 - Let’s go find somewhere else to live in peace. I saw a lot of power in Mr. Thinhands hands. I realized that the power can make people fight, but it’s not what happens here. And also, the power can help people so that the peace can exist. - We need to find the children! They are not going to play war with us. With them we will live in a peaceful place. – the three of them agreed. João Calado and João Espichado were still trying to catch their breath. Even though they hadn’t been successful in their missions yet. But they were still not defeated. The fall from the table was a real coincidence. They fell right into little Thomas’ bac- kpack. And as usual, Thomas was in a hurry during the morning. It didn’t matter how early he woke up, it was always too late. The fist chores of the day were done quickly. Lastly, the backpack was closed and tied around his arm. Thomas left the house as fast as lighting! João Espichado, João Metido e João Calado were happy. Finally they were with a child. - Now I’ll be able to prove my theory that the war exists be- cause people make war inside themselves first. Violence is part of the human nature. The war starts inside of each person and then it becomes common. – said João Metido all at once wi- thout catching his breath. He seemed so cure that he didn’t even stopped to breath. João Metido thought that because the kids had never thought about the war, they never lived the war, they would think better about pea- ce and war, about building and destructing. The three got as comfortable as they could inside of the bac- kpack. João Calado slept inside of the math book, João Espeichado layed down next to the pencil and João Metido went to the lunch box, where he could smell the bread with butter. When Thomas opened his math book at school, a tin sol- dier fell on his desk. Thomas was excited: he had already found one soldier with his pencil. During the break he found another in his lunch box. - Hey Nino! Look at what I found… - he said happily to his friend that was sitting at the desk in front of him. What a terrible surprise! The tin sol- diers were comp, etely disappointed. Tho- mas and Nino started to play war with them. Nino grabbed João Metido in his hand and started shooting:
47 Os 422 soldadinhos de chumbo do senhor general - Bang bang bang! - Thomas pretended to ride a war tank: - Bum bum bum! Yes, they were having a real battle with the poor tin soldiers. It was really loud insi- de the classroom. Everyone wanted to play with the tin soldiers. João espichado’s sword broke again and João Metido’s hat tilted. Not to mention that the three were all greasy because while the boys held the soldiers they were also eating their snacks. But the bell rang and another class star- ted. The three tin soldiers were put back inside the backpack.
