That’s why ithas to have feeling. A good blues song has a lot of passion and personality to it. “As a history scholar he completed his master’s thesis on the racial and cultural evolution of Blues music. In 2014 hepublished his thesis as, 'The Black and White of Blues.' Yet, today, Anthony still feels he's a 'student' of the genre.Gomes went on to explain, “As far as the future of Blues goes, we will gain some things and we’ll lose some things. But,I don’t think it won’t be any better or worse... just different. I am always excited to hear new artists grow and developinto future legends. It is very exciting time for the Blues. The fear is that nobody is here forever and we will lose peoplethat can never be replaced. But I’m a 100% sure the music will carry on.”G-Note- What do you learn about yourself from playing the Blues?AG- “I have learned that we all have the Blues. No matter where you are or where you’ve been. No matter what thecolor of your skin is or what God you pray to. It is something universal within all of us. We are one. At the same time,we are all unique. It is our differences that make us special and important. But these differences are what contribute tothe greater good and make the collective much stronger and richer.”Gomes continued on, “The Blues has taught me to be honest with myself regardless of what others may think of you oryour style. The Blues has also taught me that anything is possible. Remember, the Blues grew from prejudice andoppression in Mississippi and now has grown to be a worldwide musical phenomenon that includes all. It is amazingthat when you go to Japan, they are playing the Blues- In Japan! That encourages me that we are going to be ok!”G-Note- You have played with many legendary artists. Which gigs or artist have been the biggest influence for you? Andwhy?AG- “Touring with B. B. King is my number one favorite experience and he is the reason I play the Blues. He was such awonderful mentor and teacher. We would sometime just talk, about anything. I would watch how he interacted with hisfans, it got to the point where his crew had to lie to him and told him no one else was waiting to meet him, he would beout signing autographs for 2 or 3 hours after a show. And this was still toward of his career. It was obvious that his fanswere very, very important to him. As I mentioned earlier, I learned a lot from B.B King.”G-Note- I have seen you perform several times over the years, is it always been all about the Blues? Or are there anyother types of music you have been strongly affected by?AG- “First and foremost, I am a Bluesman. I listen to music through the prism of a Blues artist. But I am inspired by andlove all music. Rock, Gospel, Funk, Soul, Folk, etc.”G-Note- Anthony, this is a philosophical question, is Blues music is a healer of the soul? Or do you have to feel Blue toplay Blues music?AG- “Everyone goes through heartache and pain. It is what makes us human. Blues helps us get through this but not in adepressing way. Blues music also celebrates the good things in life. Just listen to B.B. King, you’ll get it!”G-Note- What do you say to the people that say to you, there is too much rock and roll in your music?AG- “In a lot of ways, in the Blues world, there put us in a little Blues box, I am not talking about being a Blues artist in abig box of music. In the little Blues box there is a group of people I call the “Blues Police”. The Blues Police, are veryresistant to change and they like to think of themselves as the taste makers of what actual blues is. Artists like myselfare seen as destroying the Blues.”14 | P a g e @GNoteEntertainmentMagazinewww.G-NoteEntertainment.biz

“In a lot of ways people look at me as a villain and they look at me that way because I’m bringing in rock influences and I ambringing in my personal perspective to the Blues.”“So, for these Blues Police, they have a real hard time with that. To be honest, I really miss artists like Muddy Waters andB.B. King. When these artists played their music, even well into their senior years, and they continued to play it with fireand passion, because they were the architects of that sound.”“To me, music has to be based on the here and now, and the blues that some people perceive is not what the blues is. It iswhat it is in 2016 and B.B. King said it best, “The blues are like the law of the land, they need to be amended to fit the timeswe live in”. You see, its constantly changing, so I’m embracing the change.”“I’m unapologetic in my approach to saying yes, I love Muddy Waters and yes, I love Deep Purple and Zeppelin and theStones. The DNA of the blues is in Rock and Roll and I’m convinced that the 2 can coexist and we can blur the lines.”“Music brings us together. Society tries so hard to define us in terms of how we are different. Music serves to remind us ofhow we are the same. “For all things Anthony Gomes including the “Music Is The Medicine” foundation can be found at:https://www.anthonygomes.com/Connect with Anthony on Facebook, Twitter and ReverbNation. Rye Whiskey was the most prevalent whiskey in theearly 18th Century before the birth of Bourbon. In the UnitedStates, by law, Rye Whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51percent rye. Other ingredients of the mash can be corn, wheat,or malted barley. It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof(80% abv), and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
