Class locations cover all ends of the schooldistrict and are conveniently located in Elk River, Otsego, Rogers and Zimmerman.There are several important components to our program: • Choice time in an environment planned for learning. • Outdoor or gym time • Small group time • Circle time • Snack time • Learning centers include blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music and movement, cooking, computers and outdoors. • The Nature Explore Center (Elk River location) is a learning environment outside the traditional classroom walls that enhances the overall preschool experience.Safety is Top PriorityYour child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. At all four locations, regular safety drills areconducted, classroom doors are locked, teachers use walkie-talkies on the playground and thereis access to the district health services department.Customized To Meet Your Child’s NeedsEach child is special and unique in their own way and Discovery Learning can enhance eachchild’s experience to meet their needs. • Discovery Learning differentiates and enriches the curriculum in order to engage and challenge children who are ready for more. • Our classrooms provide inclusion opportunities for children with special needs and are co-taught with staff from Early Childhood Special Education. • Different learning styles are used throughout the day: large group, small group, individual lessons, hands-on learning, as well as different materials. • Response to Intervention (RTI) is used in a combination of high quality, culturally and linguistically responsive instruction; assessment; and evidence-based intervention.Parent Education and InvolvementCore to our program is parent education. A professional and highly trained Parent Educator is assigned to each classroom. The parent educationcomponent focuses on the child’s experience in preschool and the family as a whole. Within the 3s classes, parent discussion, along with parent andchild activities, are held weekly. Within the 4s classes, there will be five parent education sessions throughout the year. Parent involvement is keywithin the program too! Parent involvement helps lay the foundation for success in school and life. There are many ways parents can be involvedincluding: volunteering, sharing skills, helping within the classroom and/or joining our Advisory Council. We welcome parents and caregivers at any time!TechnologyTechnology continues to evolve and is a key component in the Discovery Learning Program. In addition, computers and touch screens are utilizedwithin the classroom.TransportationIf your home address is within the ISD 728 boundaries, you can choose transportation for your child to morning or afternoon preschool classes foran additional fee. Transportation is provided by Vision Transportation, the vendor for all district busing. A transportation request form must be on filefor your child to ride the bus; a transportation form will be emailed to you during the summer 2017. ECFE DISCOVERY LEARNING PRESCHOOL • Classes begin mid-September and end early June. • A $49 non-refundable deposit must be paid at registration. • A typical parent/child day starts with activities for parents and children together. Later the parents meet together in a different room, while the children continue early childhood learning activities in the classroom. • Parent time provides time for parents to talk and learn with other parents and the Parent Educator. • Optional busing available. • Students must be the correct age as of September 1, 2017.4s Plus ClassWe are excited to offer an additional option for your child! Our 4s Plus class is for children who are older in their age group. In the 4sPlus class, classroom staff will focus on kindergarten readiness and provide differentiated instruction for each child. *Please note thedate of birth for enrolling in 4s Plus: Children born before December 1, 2012.District transportation is available for Discovery Learning Preschool If your home address is within the ISD 728 boundaries, you can choose transportation for your child to morning or afternoon preschool classes for an additional fee. Transportation is provided by Vision Transportation, the vendor for all district busing. A transportation request form must be on file for your child to ride the bus; a transportation form will be emailed to you during the summer 2017. Upon arrival at preschool, your child will be escorted off the bus by our preschool staff and brought to their classroom. • Upon completion of class, your child will be escorted to the bus by the preschool staff and transferred onto the bus; families are responsible for meeting the bus upon drop-off. • Specific pick-up and drop-off times will be available at the Discovery Learning Preschool open house in September.Note: Reduced and sliding fee scale also applies to transportation costs. Transportation to and from EdVenture Club Childcare is notavailable. Families are responsible to transport when using EdVenture Club-Discovery Learning Childcare. 3

EDVENTURE CLUB-CHILD CARE ECFE Community Education offers childcare services to extend your child’s experience with Discovery Learning Preschool. Childcare is available at all Discovery Learning sites before and after your child’s preschool class. For the 2017-18 school year, your child must be age 3 by Sep 1, 2017 and they must be participating in the Discovery Learning Preschool Program. When registering for childcare, you choose the times that work best for your schedule. Registration is due on Monday the week prior to attendance. This program is eligible for county assistance.With over 24 years of successful extended day childcare experience, we provide a quality program that complementsthe Discovery Learning program curriculum. Students will be escorted between our childcare program and the DiscoveryLearning classroom by our high-quality staff. Snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon. Students will need tobring a lunch if they are attending during lunch or the full day.If you have additional questions about the EdVenture Club-Discovery Learning Childcare Program, please contact theEdVenture Club office at 763-241-3544. ECFE REGISTRATIONRegistration for 2017/18 Discovery Classes Discovery Learning registrations, for all locations, will begin online Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 8:00am. If you do not have internet access, you may turn in paper registration forms to the Discovery Learning/ ECFE office, or you may stop by and complete the forms online using one of our computers. Paper registration forms are available at the Discovery Learning/ECFE office, or can be downloaded from www.728communityed. com, on the Discovery Learning page. A $49 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. Initial classroom assignments will begin the week of January 30 for all registrations received prior to that date. Classplacement will be confirmed by email or phone. Class placement for registrations received Monday, January 30 at 12:01am and after willbe assigned on an ongoing basis. All families will receive confirmation of class placement either by email or phone.The Discovery Learning online registration is located at www.728communityed.comGo to Childhood/Discovery Learning Preschool and click on the link to register. Please note, once you have begun the onlineapplication, you must finish it, it cannot be saved. It will take about 15 minutes to complete. You will receive a receipt once yourapplication is submitted; however, this does not guarantee placement in a specific class. Your class placement will be confirmed byemail or a phone call from the Discovery Learning/ECFE office after January 30.Information you will need to register, please gather the following: • Emergency contact information (health and transportation) • Pertinent medical info (allergies, asthma, etc.) • Early Childhood Screening information - the school district where your child attended screening (if screened) • Income information - if applying for reduced tuition, you will need your adjusted gross household income for 2016. (See page 10 for sliding fee scale and acceptable forms of income verification.) • A credit or debit card for the $49 deposit (in some cases the non-refundable deposit may be reduced or waived. Please call the ECFE office if you have questions about this.)Class placement will be CONFIRMED BY EMAIL or phone starting the week of January 30. Please watch your email fornotification of your registration status. First choice class requests cannot be guaranteed, but we will do our best to honor requests.Please include a 2nd and 3rd choices when registering, if possible.If you are applying for reduced tuition: • You must complete the financial information on the registration questionnaire and include income verification (see page 10 for the sliding fee scale and acceptable forms of verification). During the registration process, you will be given a link to a secure site to upload this information, or you can drop off paper copies of the information in the Discovery Learning Preschool/ ECFE office at the Handke Center. Requests for reduced and/or waived fees cannot be processed without submission of all requested information. • Pathway II scholarships are awarded to families through an eligible Four-Star Parent Aware Rated Program; Discovery Learning Preschool is a 4-star rated Parent Aware Program. Families requesting reduced and/or waived fees may be asked to complete a supplementary application for a Pathways II scholarship. This funding supports your child in our program.Starting Wednesday, January 18, 2017 you may register online, by mail, fax, or in person at the Discovery Learning/ECFE office at theHandke Center, 1170 Main Street, Elk River. Registration continues until classes fill. Waiting lists are maintained for all full classes.Fees are divided into 9 monthly payments. Payments begin in September and end in May. A non-refundable registration fee of $49is due when you register; this fee does not apply to the total cost. Receive a $35 tuition discount for a 3's class, or a $50 discount for a4's class if the year is paid in full by September 11, 2017.Child care is available during Parent/Child classes for siblings at an additional fee; arrangements must be made in advance. You willreceive additional information regarding sibling care registration along with teacher/classroom assignments and starting day information inan August mailing.Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment.
