On Our Cover . . . CH Dunhill Brampton Fly Me To The Moon We welcomed our first Beardie in 1990, a few months after attending our first dog show. Our second dog show was helping at the BCCA National Specialty that same year, held in Leesburg, Virginia. Throughout the years and numerous litters, we have been blessed with some amazing dogs titling in conformation, obedience, agility and barn hunt! After a break in showing and breeding while we relocated to Ohio, I acquired Junie Moon from Ray and Kathy Harrington, and what an addition she has been to Brampton Beardies! She is our first Grand Champion, and is progressing with fervor in the agility ring. When time came to breed her, I chose Frank; his outline, structure and temperament were exactly what I wanted to reestablish Brampton Beardies. Of course, no breeding is complete without a mad dash somewhere - for us it was Canada, in January, 10 hours straight up, one breeding, and 10 hours straight back! Two months later we welcomed nine beautiful puppies, including MBISS GCH Dunhill Will I Am, owned by Ray Harrington, and CH Dunhill Brampton Over the Moon, owned by Mary Ann Pflum. Leroy was selected to stay here. Leroy matured nicely but some bumps along the way, including my broken ankle and most recently a heart stent, limited showing. Our hope in attending this year’s specialty was to get a” piece of the action” and have a great time. What an honor to be recognized at the BCCA National by English breeder judge David Hyde! Thank you for acknowledging Leroy’s beautiful breed type and easy flowing movement. We knew he had potential; thank you for confirming it. Pat Sherwood - Brampton Bearded Collies E ditor’s Letter Congratulations to all who took home top honors at this year’s National Specialty. A list of our top winners appears on the first page of this issue. Although I only participated in conformation, I was told that all the other venues were exciting. We have full coverage on all areas of the specialty along with a beautiful photo essay that captured some special moments of the event. I hope you enjoy this issue; and for those who were not in attendance, I hope that we bring the thrill and excitment to you. Just to give an update on our last issue, in their haste to distribute the Performance issue prior to the Specialty, our fulfillment house made a mailing error and printed the first class labels twice so those with first class, most likely received two issues. Those who receive their issue in regular mail, did not receive the issue until after the Specialty when we learned what happened. There is a saying “haste makes waste” and this was ever so true! I am sure by now all Performance issues have been received. I know that I am constantly asking you to support our magazine. This issue we did receive support from our advertisers, and I want to thank all for their support. Lillian Esposito Editor 2 Volume 46, No. 3 | Beardie Bulletin

On our Back Cover . . . MBISS GCH Potterdale Jubilee Diamond BN RE PT AXJ NA OF NW1 VX Another BCCA National Specialty show has come and gone! Thank you to the Bearded Collie Club of Maine and the BCCA for hosting a fantastic specialty show. We had so much fun exploring Boston and competing in agility, rally, obedience, and conformation. I am so proud of Scarlett, and all that we accomplished during the week. In Agility, she was fourth place for her last leg to earn her Open FAST title. She qualified in both Rally Advanced and Excellent for her first RAE leg, and earned third place in Preferred Novice Obedience. Then she wrapped up the week going Select Bitch under breeder-judge David Hyde. We always have a great time at the event, seeing friends from near and far and watching Beardies do what Beardies do best (everything!). I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Pat Sherwood and her bred-by boy, Leroy, on their big win going Best of Breed at the National from the classes! Congratulations also to Julie Kempster, Penny Heck, and Bea Sawka for Madison’s Best of Opposite at the event. We were delighted for you and all the winners throughout the week! Finally, I am always grateful to Mike and Janet Lewis for breeding such a fantastic girl and letting me bring her home. To this point in 2016, she has earned three new agility titles and one new herding title. Scarlett is always willing to do anything I ask, even when I don’t know what I am doing in a new venue, like obedience or herding. I am looking forward to many more adventures together. Thanks to all my friends, family, and instructors who have supported us through our journey thus far. As I have said before - it takes a village! Thanks for all you have done to help us along the way! See ya’ll in St. Louis! Blessings Wiggleworth Unstoppable 2016 BCCA National Specialty: Versatility Results The 2016 specialty was a ton of fun. I competed towards the Versatility Award with both my dogs, with two days of herding as well as agility, obedience rally and performance bitch conformation. This award was my ultimate goal for the trial. It is tough to hold up to so many consecutive days of competition, but Quincy (DC Lil' Clove True Grit) rose to the occasion. We have worked very hard this year especially on herding. It was a tight competition with only a couple of points separating the participants. Congratulations to all who showed the versatility of our breed. I am proud and honored to have won the Chip Award and achieved our goals this year. Fall 2016 Specialty Issue_Layout 1 11/30/16 3:41 PM Page 14 2016 Herding Specialty Trial Chair Report (Sonja Blanchard) Saturday, September 17 The trial was held at Balgrae Dog Training facility in Judge: Terry Wofford (Hillard, Fl) Charlton, MA, its first event. 39 Beardies came from 12 states to compete for legs/titles, beautiful ribbons, and hand-made Started A Sheep - (12 entered, 4 qualified) 1st, 74 RHIT: Lil’Clove Poppet’s First Moppet trophies. Thank you to Joanne and Greg for donating use of Claire Cifarelli the facility. The weekend started off well before competitors arrived with the folks that came out to help with set up on Friday – Carol Donelly (non-Beardie person who also worked the stock pens), Jack Szalka, Maryann Groves, Shane Peters, Brian Winstrom, and David Fruehwald). The trial committee (Sonja Blanchard, Ruth Bryden, Sharon Domier, Sheila Franklin, Maryann Grove, Beth Scorzelli, Trudy Wisner) provided food and Christa Blanchard did the fun prizes. 2016 BCCA NATIONAL SPECIALTY: HERDING RESULTS The stock of all varieties proved to be challenging. Stock were rented except for PT sheep. When renting stock, it is always a different ball game because they are not on their home base. This is something we often face on the east coast with facilities unable to house enough stock to run trials. Despite them being brought on grounds a few days early and worked, they were still light or tended to take cover and hide (i.e., ducks). They were harder for those dogs without a stop or unable to rate or push as needed. Although everyone was not able to qualify, the trialing experience was helpful and everyone had something to be proud of in their runs. The judges did their best to help each team, with extra advice, 2nd, 74 Balderdash Taylored in Vermont happy encouragement and allowing as much work as they Sonja Blanchard saw safely possible. Judges Terry Wofford and Louis 3rd, 73 Sallen Schotts Thompson are both from Florida; they were pleasant and Brian Wistrom supportive; both would love to work with the Beardie 4th, 73 High Scoring Veteran: After Dark Instant Karma community again. Louis also judged the instinct test. Maryann & Jack Szalka The highlights of the weekend were the time spent with friends and the trial work of our amazing dogs doing what they were bred to do. Thank you to all who entered the arena for participating, smiling, loving your dogs and enjoying the trial. Trial Secretary Report (Joanne Williamson) The herding committee worked hard to keep the classes running smoothly and they provided the delicious food to enjoy. Saturday evening featured the on-site Drover’s dinner where exhibitors, friends, family, and judges relaxed after the day’s competition and got to know one another. Even the weather cooperated. There was a hint of the fall colors to come in the tree line flanking the competition arenas to brighten the background. Class placements, special prizes, and awards are listed below. 14 Volume 46, No. 3 | Beardie Bulletin

Gracie has never disappointed and has always given us thrills. As a puppy, she was awarded Best Opposite in Sweeps at the 2015 Garden State BCC supported entry, Reserve Winners Bitch at the 2016 Garden State BCC specialty, and Winners Bitch at Garden State BCC’s supported entry at Westchester Kennel Club. She placed second in the large Open Bitch Class at this year’s National, and was one of three considered for Reserve Winners Bitch. Her last point to complete her championship was at the Westbury Kennel Association after the National, with Lillian on the other end of the lead. Gracie loves doing things her way, she decided there was no reason for a lead and showed herself to the judge! She was awarded Best of Winners & Best of Opposite! What’s next for our Gracie? Only she knows! Look for our beautiful and sweet girl in the show ring. We know she will catch your eye.
