SUPERMODELS A highly paid model who’s dominated on both high fashion and commercial market. A model who is recognized beyond her industry but TOzof the general public. More importantly, it’s the fashion industry that gives her the starting point. The phenemenom exploded by the time 90s began with the iconic cover of British Vogue January 1990 issue. Shot by famed photographer Peter Lindbergh in New York and featured the likes of Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz and Naomi Campbell, the image emphasizes the innate allure of these women through their direct gaze and natural looks. Gone were the excess and constructed glamor of the 80s and In were the healthy, alluring and charismatic natural beauties. These women had it all and they own it without any pretense. Such image launched them into superstardom and not only they were in demands for runway, campaigns and editorials but also, the public. George Michael put these five ladies in the music video of ‘Freedom 90!’ directed by David Fincher and now , kids, teens, parents who watched MTV knew them .They became hot commodities for not only fashion brands but press, paparazzi and tabloids as well. Such exposure allowed them to jumping into different fields from television to movie and even enterpreneur as well, made them into household names beyond fashion.
FashionISWHATTHEY MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH. THE WAY THEY SEDUCE THE RUNWAY, THE WAY THEY PLAY WITH THE CAMERA AND THE PRESENCES THAT THEY RADIATE WERE POWERFUL AND MAGNETIC. THEIR BEAUTIES AND COMMITMENT INFLUENCED ME AS A YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER. THEY INTRODUCED ME TO THIS MAGICAL WORLD OF FASHION AND PARTICULARLY FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY AND I HAVEN’T LOOK BACK EVER SINCE.

Through their experiences, their memories, the ups and downs and the highs and lows of their life and career in fashion, this project aims to repaint the turbulent yet passionate time of the fashion world in the 90s through the perspectives of those the defined it. But also, a chance for me to live my fantasy vicariously through their Leyes and their point of views.
