Minor Research Project on “A study of user’s awareness and satisfaction of e- books – with special reference to degree college students of selected suburban colleges” sanctioned by University of Mumbai and the research grant of Rs. 25000/- received. READER’S CLUB Inauguration of Readers Club was done on 14th July 2016. Librarian gave the overview and objective of the formation of Readers Club. She gave the glimpses of activities conducted last year under the banner of Readers Club. Members and secretary were announced for Readers Club. Secretaries presented their view on importance of reading and libraries. BOOK READING PROGRAM Book reading program was arranged for the F.Y.B. Com (A) and (B) division in the reading room for the orientation of library resources on 2nd July 2016. Ms. Savita Punjabi, HoD, Commerce enriched students with the importance of reading and use of library resources. Librarian introduced students with the library. She gave the introduction about membership procedure, book bank scheme, scholar card and other facilities given by the library. Information was given about the reference books, journals, NLIST database and competitive exam study material. Also, information was given about the Readers Club and its activities. LIBRARY ORIENTATION In order to create awareness about library resources and activities, library orientation was organized on 18th July 2016. Students of F. Y. B. Com(A), F. Y. B. M. S. , F. Y. B. Sc(CS) and F. Y. B. Sc(IT) attended the program. Librarian gave the statistics of library collection. Detailed information was given on books, periodicals and journals. She gave the information on how to access the library. Library rules were highlighted. Information was given on Book Bank Scheme, Readers Club, Library Week, facility of recommendation of books and Newspaper Clippings Service. HANDS-ON-TRAINING ON NLIST DATABASE In order to create awareness about NLIST database, training was organized on 23rd July 2016. Staff members attended the program. They had Hands-on-training on NLIST database. Librarian gave the statistics of library collection. Detailed information was given on books, periodicals and journals. She gave the information on how to access the NLIST database. Teachers practically demonstrated the session. Teachers were also introduced with the library software, SLIM 21 and the OPAC facility over the campus. Practical demonstration was given on ‘How to use the OPAC’. STORY WRITING COMPETITION Story writing competition was organized on 28th September 2016 at 11.00a.m. Story writing helps to increase creativity mindset among students. Students were allowed to write in any of the English, Marathi or Hindi language. Students enjoyed the writing. वाचन प्रेरणा दिन Book Review Competition In order to increase the reading habits among the students, Book Review Competition was organized on 15th October 2016. Mr. Shriniwas Acharya was the chief guest and judge for the session. He spoke on how reading is important in our life. He narrated motivating stories. Librarian gave the statistics of library collection. Detailed information was given on books, periodicals and journals. She gave the information on how to access the NLIST database. Students enjoyed the session. Books written by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam were displayed for all the students and staff members in the library. Session on E-learning [Collective reading of E-books] In order to create awareness about NLIST database, orientation was organized on 15th October 2016. NLIST consists of E-books and E-journals. Selected students attended the program. They had Hands-on-training on NLIST database. Librarian gave the statistics of library collection. Detailed information was given on books, periodicals and journals. She gave the information on how to access the NLIST database. Students 48
practically demonstrated the session. Students clarified their doubts and the session was ended. STORY WRITING COMPETITION On the occasion of Vachan Prerana Din, Story Writing Competition was organized for all the staff members. Using their imagination, wonderful stories were written. They got refreshed and were inspired to read more books. LIBRARY WEEK Readers Club celebrated 7th library week from 3rd December 2016 to 9th December 2016, in order to create the awareness about library resources and to increase the reading habits among the students. Library week started on Saturday, 3rd December 2016 with the inauguration of book exhibition done by Ms. Shraddha Sali, Lecturer at Panna Junior College at 10.30 a.m. in the library. 65 students attended the inauguration program. All the faculty members & students visited the book exhibition. Books on Marathi Sahitya, English Novels, Classics, English Grammar, Encyclopedia, Hindi Sahitya, Autobiographies, Biographies, books on competitive exams, etc. were displayed on this day. Various students gave feedback on library collection, activities and services provided. Suggestion book was kept in the library for feedback and comments from the users. On Monday, 5th December, Calligraphy competition was organized for staff members and students. 23 students and 9 teachers participated in the competition. On Tuesday, 6th December, extemporary competition was organized in which 33 students participated. Also, books on Accountancy and Research Methodology were displayed in the book exhibition. On Wednesday, 7th December, Reading Competition was organized in which 22 students participated. In the library, books on Environment, Sports, Law and CDs on various subjects were displayed in the exhibition. On Thursday, 8th December, 18 students and 08 staff members participated in the poster-making competition for which the theme was Books are our best friends. Posters were displayed in the book exhibition. On Friday, 9th December, Book Review competition was organized. 8 Students participated in the competition. Valedictory function was organized followed by book exhibition in the library. Video session was organized each day on various important subjects. In all, 278 students attended the 49
video session. In the book exhibition, 948 books were exhibited. 489 students visited in the book exhibition. The gymkhana committee nominated Mr. Ajay Khunte (S.Y.B.COM. A) as the gymkhana boy secretary and Ms. Kranti Paste (S.Y.B.COM. A) as gymkhana girl secretary. In the month of July registration programme was arranged on 14th July, 2016 and 210 students have registered their names for sports activities to be conducted in the ongoing academic year. Our college participated in nearly 14 sports event at the Intercollegiate University of Mumbai tournaments. We urge students to come and participate in all sports activities of our gymkhana. Annual sports were held on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, & 24th December, 2016. Mr. Arun Patil (Head Clerk) inaugurated annual sports with Tug-of-War event for faculty members and non-teaching staff. Prof. Sandesh Tambe served as joint convener for Annual Sports. This year we registered record numbers of entries for annual sports. The gymkhana committee acknowledges the encouragement and valuable guidance by I/c Principal Ms. Neetu Kapoor and committee appreciates the distinguish services rendered by Mr. Arun Patil and Mr. Sanil Patil and all faculty members, non-teaching staff and volunteers. We wish to develop a healthy sports culture in the college, which the institution will be proud of. We plan to step up our efforts and hope to win more medals for the institution in future. 50

DLLE National Service Scheme On 21st June, 2016 “International Yoga Day” was celebrated where in college students, teaching and non-teaching staff performed various Yogasanas along with powerpoint presentations by Dr. Vijay Kukreja. On 1st July, 2016 N.S.S. volunteers participated in Mega Tree Plantation Program at Dhokedapivli Village. On 11th August, 2016 First Aid Day was celebrated N.S.S. volunteers distributed First Aid Boxes in Z.P. Schools in Badlapur. International Literacy Week celebrated from 8th to 13th September, 2016. N.S.S. 7 DAYS RESIDENTIAL CAMP REPORT N.S.S. unit of Bharat College of Arts & Commerce, Badlapur (W) has organized a seven-day residential camp at ‘Vrindavan Aashram, Jambhil Ghar, Boradpada Road, Tal. Ambernath Dist. Thane from 24th November, 2016 to 30th November, 2016 with the total participation of 35 volunteers, committee members and I/c Principal 67
of college. Various activities were undertaken making the camp a real learning experience. On 24th November, 2016 at 9.30 a.m. the camp was inaugurated by Mr. Sukhdev Gaikwad, Sarpanch of Jambhilghar Village, Mr. Ramesh Kukreja, owner of ‘Vrundavan Ashram’ and other staff members were also present on the occasion. In his inaugural address Mr. Sukhdev Gaikwad enlightened all the volunteers with emphasis on role of youth in building the nation. Mr. Ramesh Kukreja also enlightened volunteers with emphasis on meditation and knowing yourself. Various activities undertaken during the camp: 1. Cleaning of camp premises & Jambhilghar village by volunteers and creating awareness about cleanliness among villagers. 2. Preparation of soakpit (Shosh-khadda) by volunteers in village. 3. Street plays on various social issues like save child girl, health awareness etc. 4. Expert lectures on YOGA & Meditation, Blind Faith & Superstitions, Stress Management etc. by inviting eminent personalities were organized. 5. A brief survey of the village was carried out. The camp has actually served the purpose of making the volunteers socially responsible. They practiced the way of life that fulfilled the needs of the society and actually acquaint themselves with rural life. Manager-HR, Aramex India Pvt. Ltd. On 18th February, 2017. - Sandesh Tambe Prof. in-charge WELLNESS UNIT Health is Wealth is the slogan most believed in our college. So to maintain physical and mental health, Wellness Unit conducts activities like Yoga and Laugher sessions. This year we also introduced Jumba Dance for the staff and students. These activities are conducted on regular basis. After the formal inauguration of Wellness Unit on 29th July, 2017, the regular activities start. Yoga sessions are organised every Monday from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Under Laughter Club, the laughter sessions are organised on every Tuesday and Friday from 7.00 am to 7.05 am. Jumba dance is a modern method of relieving stress. So every Saturday between 11.00 a.m to 12.00 noon, Jumba dance is organised for the staff and students. - Savita Punjabi Prof. in-charge WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL The formal inauguration of the WDC was held on 15th July, 2016 with the participation of 210 girls. The chief guest Prof. Savita Punjabi motivated girls for higher education and being self-dependent. The inaugural program was followed by Power Point Presentation arranged by the girl student Ms. Ashwini Tambe (S.Y.B.COM) on various current issues regarding women. Around 10 groups participated out of which the best three were given prizes. Women Development Cell also conducted a paper presentation competition on 75
23rd July, 2016 in which 17 groups participated out of which the best three were awarded. WDC organized Eco-friendly Rakhi Competition on 18th August, 2016. On 28th September, 2016 presentation on ‘Dignity of Women’ in association with N.S.S. was organized. WDC organized two days Liquid Embroidery Workshop in association with Fevicryl on 13th & 14th December, 2016 were 108 participated. WDC organized ‘Fruit and Vegetable Decoration Competition’ on Saturday, 4th February, 2017. In this competition 43 students, 5 parents and 18 faculty members participated with great enthusiasm. WDC organized Best out of the Waste competition on 11th February, 2017 were 3 parents, 209 degree students and 9 Panna English High School students and 15 staff members participated. - Jyotsana Agarwala Secretary PLACEMENT CELL Placement Cell works hard to achieve the dream of placing the students with good jobs. Placement Cell arranges Placement Drive as well as informs students about vacancies in various organizations. Even our students participated in such drives organized by other colleges. On 17th October, 2016 Placement Interviews were arranged for the Passout (2015-16) students by ‘Source IT’. 7 students of all the faculties participated in the drive from which one student named Ms. Payal Jagaonkar got selected. Also our alumni Ms. Divya Keni and Mr. Shubham Chikle were placed in the NMSL pvt Ltd as trainee Accountant. On 12th January, 2017 Pre-placement recruitment seminar by L & T InfoTech was organized for the last year B.Sc.C.S. & B.Sc.I.T. students of various colleges. On 16th January, 2017 placement drive by L & T InfoTech was organized with participation of 160 students from various sub- urban colleges. 36 students were selected to join in L & T InfoTech. On 17th February, 2017 “National Industry Targeted Aptitude Test by NIIT” was conducted for B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Information Technology students. The students have to be very objective in deciding career hence Counseling and Guidance cell has organized different career workshops and seminars on various different topics. On 19th July, 2016 Session on Tally 9 ERP was organized. Resource person for the session was Mr. Sharad Mhatre. He discussed the details of the course and the opportunities available after its completion. On 26th July 2016, a session on ‘Preparation for MPSC and UPSC Examination’ was organized. The resource person Mr. Shashikant Borse inspired all the students to appear for these competitive exams. On 27th July 2016 lecture on Career as a Cost Accountant was held by Mr. Gopi Shamnani from Kalyan Ambernath Chapter of ICWA. On 28th July 2016 lecture on Career in Travel and Tourism Industry was organized by Ms. Komal Katkade. On 7th December, 2016 a lecture on “Social Media its Ethics and Ethos” by Dr. Manju Gupta was held. On 9th December, 2016 a seminar on CMS was conducted by Mr. Rupesh Chindarkar from CMS and IT services, Kalyan. He gave information about CMS management and IT services. POETRY CLUB To enhance the creative side of student Poetry club has organized various competitions for students. On 22nd July 2016 Inauguration of Poetry club was organized followed by poem competition on ‘Monsoon’. Ten students were participated in the competition. On 27th September 2016 the poetry competition and recitation competition was organized for the students. The theme of the poem was ‘Environment’. Many students were participated and prizes were declared. On 8thFebruary 2017 ‘The Poet of the year’ Competition was held. Three winners were declared. - Savita Punjabi Prof.in-charge HOBBY CLUB In order to provide to the students a wide array of opportunities, in the field of extra- curricular activities the Hobby Club was formed in Bharat College of Arts and Commerce Badlapur (W), as it provides the fun and enjoyment needed to turn the monotonous life into a fun-filled one. Every Saturday Hobby Club activities were organized based on student’s hobbies. An inauguration of Hobby Club was done on Saturday 16th July, 2016 at 10.50 a.m. in Room No.4 by Asst. Prof. Pranali Patil (Coordinator of C.S and IT Dept) and different activities like Solo Dance, Duet Dance, Group Dance, Solo Song, Group Song, Skit and Guitar Play were conducted. Again on 3rd August, 2016 a workshop of one month under Hobby Club in association with SAVITRIBHAI PHULE EDUCATION TRUST was conducted on Mobile Repairing, Mehendi, and Parlor. Further, on 24th September, 2016 an activity of ANCHORING i.e. (Hosting on Radio, Live and Television Anchoring) Competition was conducted. So, History Club was inaugurated by Staff Secretary Mr. Gopal Chanchlani with its objective of “Know Your Heritage” followed by a presentation on “Elements of Indian Culture through Paintings” by Dr. Krishna Chandra Jha. Educational Tour of “Kanheri Caves” organized with Commerce Association on 7th January 2017. B.Sc.(IT) on 16th February 2017. - Dr. K.C.Jha Prof. in-charge LEGAL CELL Legal Cell of the college was formed in order to achieve following objectives. 1. To impart updated legal knowledge to students 2. To inculcate among students habit of referring legal dictionary and law journals. In the light of above said objectives a session on preparation of affidavit, leave and license agreement was taken by Adv. Ravindra Karandikar on 7th July, 2016. On 26th November, 2016 Legal Cell celebrated ‘Constitution Day’ on this occasion students, teachers and non-teaching staff read Appendix-I of preamble of Constitution of India. To enhance the research quality among students. 2. To generate new knowledge by engaging in cutting-edge research. 3. To inculcate among students habit of referring and publishing research paper in authorized journals. An inaugural session was conducted by I/C Neetu Kapoor on 21st July, 2016 followed by Power point presentation on “Importance of research”. On 16th September, 2016 there was session on “How to frame hypothesis?” that enabled the students to form hypothesis while doing research. On 22nd September, 2016 “Presentation Competition” was organised to develop presentation skill and confidence among the students. On 9th December, 2016 “How to frame questionnaire and data analysis?” session was conducted for S.Y.B.M.S students that helped them to frame questionnaire. They also learnt how to analyze the collected data for any type of research. On 18th February, 2017 “Paper Presentation Competition” was organized in association with Science Association for B.Sc. (CS) and B.Sc. (IT) students to remove the stage fear and to improve their communication skills. On 2nd March, 2017 research paper competition was organized for management students. Under Fruit Club a fund is created with which the staff members enjoy fruits at regular intervals. The staff secretary makes an arrangement by purchasing the fruits after every fifteen details. The purpose of this club is to reinforce the importance of fruits as a part of an overall healthy diet. - Gopal Chanchlani Prof. in-charge YOUTH CLUB For the development of skills and enhancement of knowledge of students, youth club has organised activities like Debate, Competition and Friendometer. The club was formally inaugurated on 25th June 2016 by encouraging words of Incharge Principal Ms. Neetu Kapoor. It was followed by debate competition on “Should cell phones be allowed in classroom”. Overall three teams from all faculties participated in the competition. For the personality development of the students Youth Club organised a video session on Stress Management on 27th July 2016. On 27th January 2017 Youth Club organised activity on FRIENDOMETER by Ms. Mamta Purswani for increasing the confidence level among the students. DIGITAL INDIA WEEK Digital India is a campaign launched by the Indian Government to improve online infrastructure (by increasing internet connectivity) and offer Indian citizens an easy online government services as well as making India a digitally empowered country in the field of technology. Presentation on topic “Digital India” was organized in “Kulgaon-Badlapur High-School”, on 16th December 2016. It was presented by the students of CS & IT department. Mr. Pradeepkumar (F.Y.B.Sc(I.T.)), Mr. Vaibhav Pandey (T.Y.B.Sc.(C.S.)), Mr. Aniket Jagdale T.Y.B.Sc.(C.S.)) & Mr. Ganesh Pawar (S.Y.B.Sc.(C.S.)) along with Asst. Prof. Shriniwas Acharya accompanied the students. In the presentation, the information was given on various topics like education, health, demonetization, farming, and finance sectors, Digital Locker, national scholarship portal, e-sign, etc. The event was organized to create awareness about “Digital India”. Citizens of digital India may improve their knowledge and skill level after getting covered under the umbrella of internet. It is an ambitious project that will benefit everyone especially villagers who travel long distance and waste time and money in doing paper works for various reasons. Digital India programme has been implemented by the Government of India to ensure following aims of this initiative: To ensure the broadband highways. To ensure the universal access to mobile phones. To facilitate people with high speed internet. To bring e-Governance by reforming government through digitization. To bring e-Kranti through electronic delivery of services. To make available online information for all. To ensure more IT jobs. Students’ from high school as well as from Junior College participated in this presentation and they made it an interactive and successful session. - Pranali Patil Chairperson Achievements of Rotaract Club of Bharat College including Change Badlapur (Phase-I, II & III) An overview of the progress of Rotaract Club of Bharat College (2016-2017) is highlighted by some of the projects performed. The motive of the club was to spread knowledge and to make people aware about the present conditions. 85
The first project commenced on 21st May - Change Badlapur (Phase-1). In this project, all the people were made aware of not crossing the railway tracks, and were also told that it is illegal. We got a positive response and the results were quite surprising. The second project was taken place in the month on June On 25th- Mai-Tree. This project was to plant trees and to give an opportunity for the community’s involvement and empowerment that would improve the quality of life in our surroundings. We got a huge response from the BCF and the local people as the trees planted were more than 100. In the month of July, many projects were undertaken for the improvement of the society and to build the skills among the people. Projects like on 1st LET’s START GANDHI GIRI (Change Badlapur Phase-2) on 9th July, RING FOOTBALL on 15th HAMARA ZAMANA and TWO ZERO’s on 30th July were held in the month of July. All the people gave a positive feedback about the project. Only two projects we held in the month of August, they are- 1) Videomania ! Took place on 5th (Yes! I’m the change Film Making Workshop) and 2) 2nd Installation Ceremony took place on 13th. Videomania was organized to spread knowledge to the students regarding film/video making. A survey was done before organizing the project. All the necessary goods were organized for the project. The knowledge shared to the students was very helpful and also a positive response was gained. The aim behind the 2nd Installation Ceremony was to officially introduce the Core team, Board of Directors (BOD’s) and the members of the Rotaract Club of Bharat College- 2016-2017. We were appreciated by the present teachers, parents, students and other club Rotaractors. On 3rd Change Badlapur Phase-3, on 10th Clean City Green City, on 15th Medicine Donation, on 26th GO-GREEN and Personality Development Session were the projects organized in the month of September. Medicine Donation was held on the Worlds Pharmacists Day. The aim was to donate medicines to the Old-Age home and orphanage. To create awareness among the people about to protect our environment was a part of GO-GREEN project. “How to dispose wet and dry garbage and How to use it as a natural fertilizer”, this knowledge was spread by the project- Clean City Green City. All the projects performed in the September month was appreciated and also got a positive response. The October month was full of fun projects. MEMORIES on 5th and Freshers Party held on 8th were held. “MEMORIES” was held for the teachers, to make them happy and to get them free from their daily schedule. Fresher s Party was held for the new enthusiastic team. Freshers Party was organized in the Rotary Hall (Badlapur). 86
In the month of November, the projects executed were Tohfaa took place on 6th and on 17th World Philosophy Day. Tohfaa was organized to celebrate the Diwali Festival and to share the Diwali sweet (Faral) in the remote areas. From the Sarpanch and the society members of Mohan Green Woods a positive feedback was given. They appreciated us for taking such good initiative. They also said that they will support us in our future projects. On the World Philosophy Day, a project was undertaken to spread knowledge about the great philosophers. This project was executed in the remote village “Yevegaon”. Through the presentations, the knowledge was shared to the children of the village. Because of this celebration all the people were very happy and they said it was great gain knowledge on World Philosophy Day. They all were very thankful to us for spreading such wonderful information and also for spending quality time with them. We got a positive response from all of the present members at school. rd March, 2017 A Goa Trip was organized by Management for teaching and non-teaching Staff of Bharat College of Arts and Commerce, Badlapur from 27 th February 2017 to 1 st March 2017. It was a 3 days 2 nights visit to Goa. Total 29 staff members from all the departments joined the trip. The departure was on 27 th 88
February, 2017 from Mumbai Airport by Indigo Flight at 1.00 p.m. to Goa and arrival at Goa Airport at 2.15 p.m. The trip proceeded to Varca Beach for sight-seeing at Dolphin point by Boat Ride. The staff reported to hotel Sun Pride, Arpora village at 6:00 pm. In evening, the staff also enjoyed the beauty of Baga Beach. Next day on 28 th 89
February, we visited Aguada Fort and then visited Calangute Beach. All the staff members enjoyed the water sports activities and shopping at Calangute Beach. In the evening we visited Carnival Festival and had a great experience of diversity of Goa- culture. The 3 rd and last day of the trip Mr. Bharat Saroopa (Chairman of Bharat Friends Association) 90
joined the trip and all of us visited St. Francis Xavier Church (Basilica Do Bom Jesus).We also got the knowledge about the Goa after visiting the museum of Archaeological Survey of India. After this visit all the staff members had a delicious lunch and proceeded to Goa Airport at 2.00 pm for departure to Mumbai. It was a great experience of 91
gaining the knowledge of Goan Culture.
