Text 2 Structure Simple Present Passive The passive is a grammatical voice that moves an object of a sentence in the active voice into the subject position. Usage The simple present passive expresses a discrete action or event in the present or near future. the simple present passive occurs most often in sentences that (1) express discrete actions in the present. (2) describe habits and routines. (3) state general facts and truths. (4) express thoughts and feelings. (5) describe events in the near future. Structure Subject + is, am, are + past participle (V.3) Examples: Examples are given below Subject is, am, V.3 are 1. Percentage is expressed as a fraction of 100. 2. A discount of 10% is offered.

Text 3 Percentage Percentage is a number or rate that is expressed as a certain number of parts of something divided into 100 parts. Finding the percentage and a number out of another To find the percentage of a number out of another number, write the first number as the numerator and the second number as the denominator of a fraction. Then multiply the fraction by 100% Percentages 15 out of 20 = 15 × 100% 20 = 75% Therefore, 15 out of 20 can be written in percentage form as 75% To find the number out of another number by using the given percentage of another number, write the number of given percentage as a numerator and a hundred (100%) as a denominator of a fraction. Then multiply the fraction by another number. Number out of another 75% of 120 = 75 × 120 100 = 90 This means 75% of 120 is equal to 90.

Finding sale price using percentage discount A discount is a reduction in the selling price show on the price tag of an item. The reduced selling price is also known as sale price. Question: The price tag on a shirt reads 250 Baht and a discount of 10% is offered. Find the sale price. Working: Percentage of tagged price = 100% Discount percentage = 10% Method1. We calculate 10% of 250 Baht. That is the discount amount in Baht. Then we subtract that from the original price, 250 Baht, you will get the sale price. 10% of 250 = 10 x 250 Discount amount 100 = 25 250 – 25 = 225 Answer: The sale price is 225 Baht. Method 2. Since 10% of the price has been removed, 90% of the price is left. By calculating 90% of the original price, you will get the new sale price. 100% - 10% = 90% Percentage sale price = Percentage of tagged price – Discount percentage = 90 x 250 100 = 225 Answer: The sale price is 225 Baht.
