2019 Over-All High Point Carriage Driver 2019 AMHR 2019 ASPR Over-All High Point Carriage Driver Over-All High Point Carriage Driver Bronagh Floyd - Area V Dr. Pam Ripperda, DVM - Area V Almost six years ago I decided to move from VSE (Very Small Equine) to Small Pony in ADS. Truth be told, if I was ever going to move from Training level to Preliminary level, I needed a Navigator. Fortunately, Karen Shaw offered to let me try her ASPC/ASPR pony, Big & Rich aka Tank, who she had successfully been showing at bred shows and won many championships with him. What a rush! I was hooked on the energy and power, and off we went. Tank (his barn name) and I have enjoyed both driving trails, CDE’s, and ADS Pleasure shows, as well as gaming events with our club, the North Texas Whip. We have won a lot of High Points, including year end High Point. I have also discovered a variety of ways to get us eliminated on Mara- thon—I wish I was as good as my pony. Reinsmanship can be challenging because you have no idea what the pattern the judge might ask for. Turnout can be a lot of work paying close attention to the smallest details and making sure everything is very clean with highly polished brass on the harness. Carriage Committee Karen Shaw, Committee Chair Happy New Year Carriage Drivers! I have been reflecting back on a wonderful 2019 in regards to the ASPC/ AMHR/ASPR carriage division. Boy we have grown by leaps and bounds and have attracted many more of our ASPC/AMHR members to the world of carriage driving. We are all still in a learning phase and have had many great articles over on our Carriage Facebook page, many of our mem- bers have helped new drivers with their attire, horses, carts, carriages and training ideas. I will continue to seek out informative information that will benefit us all. In this issue of the Journal you will find see our three Over-all High Point Carriage drivers for 2019. In the AMHR Division, Ms. Bronagh Floyd, in the ASPC Division, Ms. Shelly Graff and our first ASPR winner, Dr. Pam Ripperda, DVM. Each of these ladies have been a great asset and support of the carriage division. Go read all about their accomplishments. Congrats! As a reminder, if you are new to carriage driving and don’t have breeching with your harness you can order a pair of carriage thimbles, for ponies or miniatures, in brass or chrome from Cathy Waxler at Star Lake Tack. These are $20.00 plus S&H. New for 2020 that passed at convention is that the only class that will get you into the carriage stakes is the regular AMHR, ASPC or ASPR Carriage class. The following classes WILL NOT get you into stakes: Working, Reinsmanship, Turnout, Precision, or Carriage Obstacles (Cones). So be sure when you sign up at a show that you enter the regular class and then follow by any of the others.
