Our ClassroomI believe that children work best when theyhave the opportunity to ask questions andseek answers. That children can overcomebarriers in their learning throughcollaboration and communication and thatwhen they are given this opportunity, theyare able to apply their learning to newsituations.

Our ClassroomIn order to be successful in theirlearning, children need an environmentthat makes them feel safe, secure andnot be afraid to take risks and(sometimes) fail. I hope that as the yearprogresses we can continue to fuel theirpassion for learning whilst guiding themto become more reflective, responsiblecitizens.

Common CoreISB has adopted the Common Core set of mathstandards and we use resources that are based on ourstudent population and that are aligned to our missionand definition of learning. We are using assessmentsfrom various resources and consultants that bestsupport our beliefs about learning. There will be parenttrainings this year focusing on math and if you havequestions you can speak with Kim Bentley, SarahFleming, Kelly Armitage or Diana Drummond.

ResourcesWe use a variety of resources to support math learning.Students will be working on real-world problems wherethey will need to collaborate, explore, question andjustify their thinking. They will be asked to use models, think creatively and take risks.
