TEMPLE OF LIGHT SPIRITUAL RENEWAL WEEK 2023 (Please Share with Visitors and Guests) Dear Friends, Below, are a few guidelines for the coming week. Please read and wrap your auras around them as they will help the week to flow smoothly and inspirationally. PARKING Please park “up top” unless you are driving a golf cart or using the handicapped spaces. The spaces closer to the Temple are needed for speakers, staff, and musicians. Also, as handicapped parking is quite limited please consider carpooling or having someone drop you off before they park up top. Please Note: Handicap Parking is self-regulating. No need for an official sticker or to check with us beforehand. Do not at any time, or for any reason, park on the blacktop in the Temple area. This is a fire lane and must be kept clear except for drop-offs and pick-ups – whether an event is in progress or not. NO Food or Drink in the Sanctuary. Water is acceptable. SHOES Please place shoes fully into the cubbies whenever possible. If your shoes are too large, please keep them clear of places where people will first walk into the room and place them as close to the cubbies as possible. If there are seriously too many shoes you may place them outside of the classrooms. More people and more shoes can increase trip/fall hazards and injuries. PERSONAL CHAIRS, WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS, etc. You are welcome, as always, to bring your own chair. We cannot have them down the center aisle. Please sit on the “outside” of the rows (closer to the walls). For this week, you may leave your chairs in place for the entire week. Wheelchairs and walkers will have a space reserved in the back of the Sanctuary where one first enters. The flat screens in the classrooms will be streaming the class if that is more comfortable for you. Connect with us if you have any questions. The Villager, June 16-July 14, 2023 - Double Issue 10

Temple of Light cont. SILENCE IN THE SANCTUARY As we enter the Temple during this amazing week, let’s keep silence or at least voices sotto voce. Definitely let us keep conversations outside of the Sanctuary and as far away from the carpeted area as possible. A conscious effort to keep a devotional silence inwardly and outwardly can only enhance the beauty of the mornings and our experience of the classes. Chanting will begin as always at 10:15am. PERSONAL ITEMS Normally, personal items are not allowed to remain in the Temple. During this week they may remain in the Temple between the morning meditation and the morning class. However, they must be removed immediately after the noon meditation. If you feel you need an exception, please see one of us. LOST AND FOUND There is no official Lost and Found box. Items found without owners are placed in the coatroom to the left (as one walks into the Temple) toward the back on the same side as the Vestry. Your Humble Temple Managers, Tim and Lisa The Villager, June 16-July 14, 2023 - Double Issue 11

3-hour Saturday Morning Meditations In light of the talk given by Jyotish & Devi last month, we would like to let you know that the wonderful, cherished Saturday morning 3-hour meditations at the Shrine of the Masters (6-9am) have resumed May 27- October 14, 2023. Winter attendance is affected by the weather and darker mornings BUT maybe we can continue past October....we'll see. ● We already have scheduled leaders for these meditations. There will be a “Break” at 7:30 am. ● Come pre-energized. If you have any questions, please let Maria know. \"By deeper, longer, thirsty, guru-given meditation Comes this celestial samadhi.\" \"Group Meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.\" — Paramhansa Yogananda The Villager, June 16-July 14, 2023 - Double Issue 16

Around 1pm we will pray and convene a somewhat informal Village Council meeting including discussion about VC and community dynamics, VC meeting days/times and more going forward. Friends, families, one and all....join us for some light refreshments, pool time and satsang in the lower gardens. Around 4:15 we will gather in the dome for a brief farewell satsang and blessing. Sun. July 2nd--Go With Love blessing after Sunday Service around 12:30pm. Kale Quinoa Salad Prep Time: 10 minutes, Cook Time: 20 minutes, Yield: 6, Vegan Ingredients ● 1 cup dry quinoa (3 cup cooked) ● 1 bunch Tuscan kale (also labeled as Lacinato kale, dinosaur kale, or cavolo nero) ● 15-ounce can chickpeas ● 1/4 cup finely chopped shallot (or red onion or green onion) ● 1 bell pepper ● 2 carrots ● 1/4 cup olive oil ● 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar ● 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard ● 1 small pinch curry powder* ● 1 large garlic clove, peeled and grated ● 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt plus fresh ground black pepper to taste** Instructions 1. Make the quinoa: Go to Stovetop Quinoa or Instant Pot Quinoa. Make it in advance OR if serving immediately, bring the quinoa to room temperature: spread it in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze it for 2 to 3 minutes until it cools. 2. Prep the kale: Chop the kale. Sprinkle the kale with 1 pinch kosher salt. Coat your hands with a few drops of olive oil and massage the kale leaves for 2 to 3 minutes until all pieces are tender. 3. Prep the other veggies: Finely chop the onion or shallot. Dice the pepper. Peel and dice the carrots. 4. Mix the dressing: In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, curry powder, and grated garlic. 5. Mix the salad: Mix the quinoa and vegetables together with the dressing and the 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Add more kosher salt to taste. Stores up to 3 days refrigerated (you may need to add a pinch of salt before serving since it looses saltiness over time). Notes: *A small pinch adds complexity without the flavor of curry in the salad. **Optional add-ins: Parmesan cheese, chopped almonds or other nuts, dried cherries, cranberries or raisins, chopped apples, chopped cucumber, etc. >>> Email your quick and easy recipe recommendations to Meerabai at [email protected]. Pilgrimage to Italy Explore ancient Italian civilization while encountering thousands of years of spirituality.  Italy is one of the most heart-opening places to visit on pilgrimage.  You’ll meet and commune with three very powerful saints who left their mark on the world—the remarkable Saint Francis of Assisi, known for his compassion and attunement to Christ; his contemporary, Saint Clare of Assisi who forever changed the direction for women in the church; and the mystical Saint Catherine of Siena, an activist and author known to levitate while in communion with God. Led by Nayaswamis Nischala and Nakula. Farm Update June 11, 2023 We just came out of what felt like the eternal Winter here in Northern California. The Snow and rain soaked the much needed earth and we are now enjoying what may be called the eternal spring! The Strawberries have had a breakout year. 4 seasons ago (2020) we planted roughly 100 Strawberry plants in the Lakshmi Gardens. For the past few seasons we have enjoyed a modest harvest, mostly a treat for the kids and staff to snack on while working the beds. This year we have basket after basket of beautiful strawberries, with no end in sight. I’m also very happy to report that the corn and pumpkins which are slotted for our October Harvest Festival have sprouted and are doing really well in this mild spring. There is a saying in the Midwest where I grew up for corn. It goes like this “Corn should be knee high by the 4th of July.” I believe we are on the path to have this even during this very wet spring. Michael Olivier's brother, Frank (funnyfrank.com), is a professional entertainer who did an impromptu show outside Master's Market while he was at the Village for the Olivier family reunion. For the finale, he recruited Badri as a volunteer. He put a carrot in Badri’s mouth and strapped a device holding two additional carrots onto Badri. While juggling machetes, in one swipe he cut the 3 carrots. Kent Williams got this wonderful action shot showing the cut carrots mid-air and the machete just below the lowest carrot.
