TA R A N G I N I WAVES OF THOUGHTIndex ISSUE 3Tribute To Kalam 02 JANUARY 2016Artography 03iTECH projects 04First year Orientation Programme 06Literature and Spo(r)tify 08 MAYA-STATEMENT OF FACTS• Maya – that which arises from the source.• Maya is phenomena. The phenomenal “me” is continuously changing and disappearing; the real “me” is unchanging and eternal.• Know nature to be Maya and the Ruler of this Maya is the Lord.• Maya is that which causes the self to be caught, as it were, in so many millions of beings, differentiated only through name and form.• Maya is the state of existence, a point of view, caused by the imperfect discriminating intelligence, resulting in plurality and sense of separation.• Everything in the world is in a constant state of motion; the appearance may be different; the Sky appears blue; the Sun appears to rise and set.• We seek fulfillment through -- 1. Self promotion 2. Seeking attention and recognition ; It is all a play of Maya.• The veiling power of the one, by which multiplicity is seen, is Maya.• Maya at the individual level is called ignorance; when one identifies as the body-mind , then , an isolated ego, in an apparently independent body is born. Self + Body + Mind + Ignorance = Person• Everything that has a form, everything that calls up an idea in the mind, is within Maya.• Space – Time – causation, or name – and – form is called Maya; it veils the Reality.• Everyday people are dying around us, and yet people think they will never die.• The least amount of material prosperity that we enjoy is causing the same amount of misery, elsewhere.• If we increase our power to be happy, in arithmetic progression, we also increase our power to become miserable, perhaps, in geometric progression.• The world is a mixture of good and evil, happiness and misery, and that, to increase the one, one must, of necessity, increase the other.• The very same phenomenon, which is appearing to be good now, may appear to be bad tomorrow.• Life without death and happiness, without misery are contradictions.• We must work for lessening misery; that is the only way to make ourselves happy.• Desire is never satisfied by the enjoyment of desires; it only increases the desire, as fire, when butter is poured upon it.• We are essentially free, but through the thoughts of limitation, we think we are bound; hence, knowingly, be the open, empty and luminous consciouness.• Maya can be transcended by meditation on the eight fold manifestations of the Lord and discovering Him as the essence from which everything originates. -Swami Vivekananda 1

TARANGINI JANUARY 2016 iTECHTransportation alert using RFID ad GSM modemDivya.P, Madumitha.S, Monisha.G and Sreenandhini.K - II Year [ ECE ]This project is mainly aimed at ensuring safety to students I II IIIduring their travel from home to college and from collegeto home. This project uses an Arduino UNO board, a GSM (I) RFID identity card (II) RFID Scanner (III) GSM Modulemodem, an RFID reader and RFID tags. The RFID card thatwe have used is a passive card which has an antenna and a coiland works in the radio frequency range. The RFID reader helpsin detecting the RFID card and sends the information to theGSM via the Arduino. The Arduino UNO board controls boththe RFID reader and the GSM modem. The GSM modem helpsin sending and receiving messages. The Arduino board is linkedseparately to both the GSM modem and the RFID reader viaconnectors. A SIM card is inserted into the GSM modem whosefunctioning is almost similar to that of a mobile phone as it helpsin receiving and transmitting calls and messages. The Arduinocode that is written links each RFID tag to a particular mobilenumber. When an RFID card is swiped against the reader, thereader detects the card and sends the information to the GSMvia the Arduino. The GSM then sends a message to the mobilenumber that is linked to that particular ID. Thus, using thisalert system, the students can scan their RFID cards once theyget into their college bus for which a message can be sent tothe institution as well as to their parents. Hence, transportationsafety can be ensured.Street light automationPadmakumari.P, Suvetha.S, Naveena.M, Indhuja.M and Guna Santhi.R II Year [ EEE ]In this dynamic world, people crave for new technology. Working model of Street Light AutomationPeople require advancement and efficiency in operation ofgadgets. One such improvement is automatic functioningof street lights. This system uses LED that consumes lesspower. The resistance of light dependent resistor (LDR)in the circuit varies in accordance with the intensity of lightand the sensor senses the obstacle in the path of its ultrasonicwaves. The signals from the LDR and sensor are given tomicrocontroller and its output triggers the street light to ONor OFF. This system saves man power as well as electricalpower. It has its applications in street parkings and highways. ‘What is done for you-Allow it to be done What you must do yourself-Make sure ’you do it -Khawwas (Essential Sufism) 4

TARANGINI JANUARY 2016projectsAnalysis of load bearing capacity of a structure Anusha Bharathi.M , Muhshina Parveen , Samyukta.R and Subashini.K II Year [ Civil ]This project deals with the analysis of load bearing capacity ofa structure and the reliability of software analysis of structuresduring designing of structures. A structure, designed wasanalysed experimentally and regenerated in “ABAQUS” andand analysed further. When the load vs. deflection graph wasplotted for experimental and software generated values, there wasfound to be a 30% variation. This variation which disapprovesthe reliability of software in designing, underlines the need fortaking into consideration, the errors which are highly possiblein software testing. This project would be useful in avoiding thefailure of structures due to overloading and minimal factor ofsafety. Thus ,it would help avoid poor designing quality andprevent major accidents.‘Kind words can be short and Load bearing bridgeeasy to speak, but their echoes ’are truly endless -Mother Teresa Room AutomationVignesh.N, Aravinth Balajee.R, Sriram.S, Ajith Chidambaram.P.L, Gowtham.R II Year [ EEE ]The aim of this project is to develop an automatic room lighting I IIsystem with PIC microcontroller. The objective of this project isto reduce the consumption of energy. On an average 55 Trillionkilo joules of energy is being used in lighting systems aroundthe world. Out of 55 Trillion kilo joules, about 3 Trillion kilojoules of energy is wasted due to unwanted switching ONof lights. This is eliminated by the use of room automationtechnology. The system automatically detects motion in theroom and switches ON the light and turns it OFF when no oneis present in the room. In this way, the consumption of energycan be minimized. This project uses a PIC microcontroller toconnect the sensors with the lights of the room and automate theroom thereby eliminating manual labor.‘The greatest sin is to think ’yourself weak -Swami Vivekananda (I) Power Source (II) Relay CircuitDon’t miss the next issue for more interesting Projects... 5
