2016ANNUALREPORT

Since 1950, St. Anthony’s hasprovided essential support toSan Franciscans living in poverty.Every day, with dignity andrespect, we offer thousands ofthe most vulnerable among us thebasics we all need to feel human:a hot meal, fresh clothing, anopportunity to connect with theworld around us.

Another year at St. Anthony’s is another testament to the generosity of countless donors, volunteers, and staff who continuean amazing tradition of giving and receiving. This year we reached important milestones: the serving of the 42 millionth mealin our dining room and the celebration of our 66th anniversary. Through you, God’s abundance continues to overflow andtouch the lives of San Franciscans in need.I was especially pleased that, last year, we were able to open and operate an overnight shelter for our guests during the coldand wet winter months. This is a complex endeavor and is only possible because the whole St. Anthony’s community cametogether to fund, staff and support the project. Thanks to this work 60 people each night were sheltered at a time of great need.I can report, on behalf of the board, that St. Anthony’s is on a sound financial footing. You will see from the audited data inthis document that, in the financial year 2015/2016, we were able to fully fund our programs and make prudent provisionsfor reserves. The ability to respond to the needs of our guests has always been a hallmark of St. Anthony’s. And it is our firm financialfoundation that gives us the confidence to plan further ways of serving the needs of a changing community: including themuch greater proportion of seniors and women hosted by the dining room today compared with previous years. Finally, I know that we as a community and a nation are in the midst of a tumultuous period. Our claim to ‘serve hope daily’means that we will have to step up and advocate with and on behalf of our most vulnerable neighbors. Without your help thisimportant work simply would not happen.Thank you,
