Museum Objective Through biomimicry and texture, the Wildlife Research Museum encourages imagination, adventure and education in all different types of habitats. In the design, element such as walls and flooring, create free form shapes with symmetry similar to a butterfly. The new found symmetry stays true to the grid of the original structure while incorporating new design details. Building History The building is located in the Soulard District of St. Louis Missouri. It was originally built as a shoe factory in 1875, but was later remodeled into a baby carriage and furniture factory known as the Welsh Baby Carriage Factory. As it now stands, the five story building is used for the Soulard Market Loft Apar tments. Main Lobby Exploded Isometric Planning Module - Biomimicry Many of the elements in this design were taken from the patterning of a butterfly. The butterfly has a strong repetitive pattern from side to side, which creates many angles that are included in the finish and fixture palette. In addition, there are highlighted angles in the east building as well as the butterfly garden creating continuous design detail through the space.
