Know Your Fire Fighting System What ? Do you know, our society is having a “Wet Riser Type” firefighting system, installed in both the Blocks. The system is renovated recently. Now, it is active and operational. Where it is located ? Fire Pipe (Wet Riser) is located in “FIRE SHAFT”, which runs vertically from roof level to Ground level, connecting each floor for the building. You can find the FIRE SHAFT next to Flat no 701, 601, 501,… 101 on your floor in respective Blocks. Refer illustrations (4) for details. How it works ? The Wet Riser pipe is connected to reserved water storage tank, located on roof of the building. The pipe is always charged with water. Hence, it is called Wet Riser. In case of fire, pressure in the pipe line is boosted with the help of fire pump. There is a pump room 3

located on roof level of Block A and Block B. What are the equipment available on each floor ? 1. On every floor, you will find two outlets attached to the Wet Riser, i.e. “Landing valve” and “First aid hose reel”. These outlets can be used to draw water from the Wet Riser for firefighting purpose. 2. You will find one Hose Pipe box fixed on the wall of FIRE Shaft, which contents, two numbers of white colored “RRL Hose Pipe” attached with male and female connectors and one Stainless Steel short “Branch Pipe”. This branch pipe is also called “Nozzle”. It is used for generating a jet of water. The length of one hose pipe is 15 meters, and length can easily be extended as per requirement by attaching other pipes. 3. You will also find one red colored Hose Reel drum on the wall with small diameter pipe folded inside drum. The pipe is attached with a small nozzle tap. The pipe can be taken out of drum by rotating the drum. The length of pipe is 30 meters and it can reach easily to any flat on the floor. 4

4. In addition to above, you will find two different type of Fire Extinguisher fixed on the wall of FIRE Shaft. One is CO2 type of Fire extinguisher and other one is of Chemical Powder type of Fire extinguisher. 5. To sound the ”Fire Alarm”, you will also find a small metal box with red colored button, covered with Glass, it is called “Manual Call Button”. This Manual Call Button and Hooter box is embedded in the side wall of the FIRE Shaft. How to use it ? In case of Fire on your floor, you should rush to FIRE Shaft of your Floor. On reaching, first thing you should do is to break glass of the Call Button to ”Sound Fire Alarm” for help. The hooter of your floor and main siren will sound. This action will also trigger flasher on control panel indicating the floor. Fire Alram will continue unless it is manually switch off from the control panel. Please note the Alram System is active 24x7, and it is always in alert mode. Only trained staff of the society knows how to stop the Siren. Therefore, be careful not to play with call button unnecessary without valid reason. Next action, depending upon nature of the fire, you should take following steps and you may Dial 101 to ask for help from Delhi Fire Services : 1. Use of Fire Extinguishers- The types of fire are categorized into A, B and C. You have two types of 5

fire extinguishers in FIRE Shaft, Co2 is used for B and C types of fire and Dry Chemical type fire extinguisher are used for A, B and C types of fire. Remove the fire extinguisher from it’s hook and rush to fire spot. Refer illustrations (1) for details. 2. Use of Hose reel drum (First Aid equipment)- unwind red pipe from hose drum by rotating the drum anticlockwise, stretch the pipe up to fire spot, open the tap and focus on fire. Turn wheel of the sluice valve anti-clockwise of the hose drum to produce jet of water on fire. Refer illustrations (2). 3. Landing Valve and RRL Hose Pipe- Open the Hose box with the universal key, remove white colored RRL Hose pipe and SS branch pipe (nozzle), stretch pipe up-to fire spot, attached nozzle to fire-spot end of the pipe (female socket), open the blank cap from landing valve and attached other (male socket) end of hose pipe to landing valve, rotate the wheel of the landing valve anti-clockwise, water will rush in hose pipe and it will produce jet of water. Please note if the system is in auto mode, fire pump will start automatically, and it will generate a very high pressure jet of water (5.5 to 6.0 Kg/cm2 pressure).
