1A PEOPLE READING SKILL/TIP identifying adjectives and nouns An adjective describes the subject or a noun. e.g. beautiful, tall, old, slim, etc. A noun is a word used to identify people, places, or things. e.g. Spain, woman, hair, sister, etc. A Read the sentences from the texts. 1B PEOPLE READING SKILL/TIP identifying parts of a sentence Sentences in English usually have a subject, a verb, and an object. The subject usually is the person, animal or thing that does the action. e.g. I, you, my mother, Jane, etc. The verb usually expresses an action or a state in a sentence. e.g. have, live, work, is, are, etc. The object receives the action. The object always comes after the verb in the sentence. It can be one word or a phrase. A Look at the examples in the table below. Then, complete the table with the correct words from the text. 1B PEOPLE WRITING writing a complete sentence (S+V+O) A sentence always begins with a capital letter. e.g. I am happy. She is slim. A sentence always ends with a full stop (.), exclamation mark (!) or question mark (?). A Put the words into the correct order. I love watching television. I know it is not a good habit, but I always feel relaxed when I watch TV. I love watching reality shows and quiz shows. They are really fun. On Saturday, I usually watch The Cooking Challenge at 10 o'clock in the morning. I like cooking and The Cooking Challenge is a great show! At lunch time, I usually watch the Midday Movie. But I don't like black and white movies, so I sometimes watch My House or Your House. It is a reality show about different houses in the UK. In the afternoon, I always watch Right or Wrong. It is a great quiz show and I like playing the games at home. And then I watch Saturday Night Football. But I really enjoy documentaries so I always watch The Secret Lives of Cats on Saturday. The program starts at 11 am, so I usually watch it with a cup of tea. It is very interesting. I sometimes watch The President's Story at 12 o'clock. It is a great show about Abraham Lincoln. I also watch the 5 o'clock News every day.
