Ad-Hoc Team Members: Counselor and Receptionist.III. General procedures for all crises: A. Head of Security or the Guard booth at Celia Ribeiro Street (bus exit) should be immediately informed of any security threats in order to set off the school alarms (there is a Security Guard 24 hours at this booth). Extension 2033. If it is not possible to call, one of the guards should be informed, so he can contact the gate and the Security Coordinator. B. Security Coordinator will provide information on the situation and confirm the need to set off the alarms. C. School Principal serves as the Crisis Team Leader and will be responsible for coordinating the first response to the events at the school. If he/she is not available, the Security Coordinator will be responsible. D. The team leader will: 1. Contact Head of School (99170-6200 / 21259001) 2. Attempt to verify the information by communicating with individuals reporting the incident. 3. Determine if the incident requires convening the Crisis Team to assist in the management and response to the crisis. 4. Make critical decisions. 5. Send out email and/or SMS messages to parents and staff. 6. Inform Security Coordinator in Gávea (99471-1560 / 21259148) or Business Manager (99163-3095 / 2125-9003) about the event and immediate measures taken by the team. 7. Send a follow-up message to parents and staff once the event is over. 8. Discuss with Head of School the need to send out school’s “official statement” to the news media and/or community.IV. Strategies and Plans:02 Crisis Management Plan—Barra

1. FIRE A. Contact the Security Booth at Celia Ribeiro (bus exit ext 2033), a Security Guard, or an administrator who will contact the gate. B. Sirens activated to clear classrooms (intermittent sound). C. Follow “Emergency Procedures” for evacuation of the buildings: ♦ Only take personal belongings that are with you. Students should not go to their locker or backpacks to retrieve personal items. ♦ Students should stay in a single file behind the teacher. If alarm goes off during brunch, lunch or activities, proceed to the soccer field. ♦ No talking – Listen for further instructions. ♦ Walk to the far side of the soccer field and join your advisor or teacher. Line up in front of your advisory group or classroom grade group. ♦ Remain quiet. Wait for the “all-clear” signal. ♦ After the “all-clear” has been given, return to the building with your advisory grade group.D. Administrators provide follow-up procedures: ♦ Return to classroom with your advisor or grade group OR: ♦ Initiate emergency phone tree/SMS to contact parents in case we need to evacuate the school. ♦ Proceed with campus evacuation taking students to a meeting point outside school (Santa Mônica Square – See picture below)Crisis Management Plan—Barra 03

1.1 General evacuation procedures in case of fire ♦ Evacuation of all classrooms, offices and common spaces through fire stairs to the SOCCER FIELD. ♦ DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS. ♦ Crisis Team convenes on the field, when necessary, to determine next steps . ♦ Fire department contacted by Security Coordinator. ♦ Important External Organizations contacted by Security Coordinator or designee.2. INTRUDER / ARMED COMMUNITY MEMBER ♦ Contact the Security Booth at Celia Ribeiro (bus exit ext 2033), a Security Guard, or an administrator who will then contact the gate. ♦ Sirens activated (police siren) for everyone to remain where they are to stay quiet. ♦ Teachers and Staff lock doors and close curtains. ♦ Security Coordinator calls police and US Consulate. ♦ Teachers and Staff wait for further instructions via the PA system, radio, email, phone call, SMS or cell phone. ♦ The following are the “Emergency Procedures” for NON - evacuation of the buildings: ⇒ Close all Windows and lock all doors. ⇒ Do not leave the room. ⇒ Remain quiet. ⇒ Remain in room until you receive further instructions via PA system, email, radio, phone or SMS message.3. CONFLICT OUTSIDE OFF THE CAMPUS. 3.1 Alert phase. a. If an incident occurs outside of school hours, the Crisis Team communicates and determines procedures to follow. The phone tree/email/SMS will be initiated if needed. b. If an incident occurs during school hours, the Security booth at 04 Crisis Management Plan—Barra

Celia Ribeiro street (bus exit) will activate school bell (police siren), for everyone to stay in classrooms until the “Crisis Team Leader” gives all-clear message via the PA system, radio, email, phone call, SMS or cell phone. c. Students not in classroom report to closest protected/covered areas in buildings and avoid staying on the field, playgrounds, parking lot and balconies. 3.2 Protection phase. a. Teachers keep the students inside classrooms or other protected areas. b. Crisis Team will be informed via radio, email, phone or SMS messages about next steps. c. Teachers and staff should wait for further instructions to be provided via the PA system, radio, email, phone call, SMS or cell phone. 3.3 Evacuation. a. The Crisis Team Leader will inform by Public Address system, radio, email, phone call, SMS or cell phone if evacuation is necessary, and when and how it will take place. b. School map for safety areas attached.4. CONFLICT IN METROPOLITAN AREA 4.1 If an incident occurs outside of school hours, the Crisis Team communicates and determines procedures to follow. 4.2 Security Supervisor validates information with local authorities. 4.3 Transportation company is contacted by Transportation Manager and changes to bus routes and new schedules are made. Transportation Manager or Business Manager informs parents via email, SMS messages or phone calls. 4.4 Teachers keep the students inside classrooms. Administrative staff remains in offices. 4.5 Teachers and staff wait for further instructions from Crisis Team Leader via the PA system, radio, email, phone call, SMS or cell phone.5. BOMB THREAT a. Contact the Security Booth at Celia Ribeiro (bus exit ext 2033), a Security Guard, or an administrator. In the case of a phone threat, transfer the call immediately to the Security Booth. b. Sirens activated to clear classrooms (the fire alarm will be activated) c. Inform Security Coordinator in Gávea (99471-1560 / 21259148) or Business Manager (99163-3095 / 2125-9003) about the event and immediate measures taken by the team. d. Business Manager or Security Supervisor contacts Rio Bomb Squad if needed. e. Follow “Emergency Procedures” for evacuation of the building ♦ Only take personal belongings that are with you. Do not go to your locker or classroom. ♦ Stay in single file behind the teacher. If alarm goes off during brunch, lunch or activities, proceed to the field.Crisis Management Plan—Barra 05

6. MEDICAL EMERGENCY ♦ An adult should remain with the person needing medical attention and another person should be sent to get the nurse. If the nurse is not available, contact the Principal or Area Secretary, if no one is available, contact the front office receptionist and/or the Security Coordinator. ♦ If necessary, contact the office secretary and/or security to clear the area. ♦ If an ambulance is needed, the nurse will ask the office secretary and/or security to call an ambulance ♦ The Crisis Team will meet, if necessary, and determine the next steps.V. General Preparedness: 1. Faculty and staff attend “Emergency General Procedures” meeting during in service at beginning of the school year. Information is shared with students during Advisory. The procedures document will be distributed (poster distributed at each classroom) 2. Security Department reviews emergency procedures each year and tests SMS data base every semester. 3. Emergency phone trees and SMS list are updated on a continual basis. Secretaries have master list. 4. List of students with medical issues is on file in offices and Nurse’s office and updated each semester. Teachers are informed of the students they have who are on the list. 5. All offices have phone numbers posted of all emergency personnel (including ambulance service and clinics). Secretaries have phone list for each student (home, business, cell). 6. Drills will be conducted in September, November, March and May.Nurse’s Office: 1. Update list of students with medical concerns each semester. 2. Stock First Aid Kits with updated supplies. 3. Maintain basic medical equipment and supplies- Order equipment as needed. 4. Nurse posts location when not in office.Security office: 1. Revise crisis plan every year. 2. Update and distribute emergency contact numbers. 3. Check distribution of procedures. 4. Test sirens and back-up equipment. 5. Provide first aid training.Communication Guidelines: 1. General info on school’s website. 2. Email for parents and staff on every incident. 3. Follow-up email for parents and staff after every incident. 4. STAY IN SINGLE FILE BEHIND YOUR TEACHER 4. REMAIN IN ROOM UNTIL YOU OR, IF ALARM GOES OFF DURING BRUNCH, LUNCH OR ACTIVITIES, PROCEED TO THE RECEIVE FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS DESIGNATED SAFE AREA. VIA INTERNET OR PUBLIC ADDRESS 4. NO TALKING. LISTEN FOR FURTHER SYSTEM . INSTRUCTIONS. 5. WALK TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SOCCER FIELD IN CASE OF FIRE AND JOIN YOUR ADVISORY. LINE UP IN FRONT OF YOUR ADVISORY NUMBER. 6. REMAIN QUIET. WAIT FOR THE “ALL-CLEAR” SIGNAL. 7. AFTER THE “ALL-CLEAR” HAS BEEN GIVEN, RETURN TO THE BUILDING WITH YOUR ADVISOR IN SINGLE FILE.
