Week 1 Title: Parents, Leaders Work to End Hazing at US Colleges. Author: Pete Musto. Source: https://www.voanews.com/a/parents-leaders-work-to-end-hazing-at-us-colleges/4572403.html Summary In most college all over US have problems of hazing which mademany students died from hazing by joining group called fraternities. These groups made members do danger, abusive or possibly illegalactivities, which could lead in big trouble and even to death. Twoyoung men died after taking part in extreme rituals for admission intothe all-male student groups. Which is why right now parents andleaders are concerning about hazing and they are working together toend hazing in US colleges. Their goal is to strengthen anti – hazinglaws by press lawmakers in all 50 states. They planed on speakingwith students and teachers about the dangers of hazing to 25,000college students to build the network across North America. They saidthat it would takes many years to change a culture but they will nevergive up and they will try and do it until the hazing is gone. Page 2 of 5

My reaction/reflection: In my opinion, I think that the topic is not too difficulty but thereare some words that I do not know the meaning and it is a topic thatis close to my life. I think that fraternities are good in some ways forexample they have social events, shared housing, and also help eachother find jobs after they gradate. I think that the bad thing about it ishazing. It is too much for a group of college students such as doingdanger things, abusive and possibly illegal activities. I think if they canlimit the danger of the actives that would be great. It seem like themembers do not really care about others’ life. I would like to givesupport to fraternities and sororities for eradicating hazing. It wouldtake a long time but it is better than do nothing. Page 3 of 5
