ALAN GARDNER [email protected] or 01388 205722 or 07917 654311 Born in Lancaster, my down to earth, straight talking manner comes from a good comprehensive school education and a family who played an active part in the community. I am proud of having spent my late teens and twenties in the Royal Air Force, and feel that this has instilled in me the benefits of comradeship, the advantages of close communities and the understanding of respect, together with the foresight to see positive education for the youth as investing in the future. Presently I work at Durham Universities Collingwood College, am the Vice Chairman of the Spennymoor Town Police and Communities Together (PACT), and a local charity and community volunteer, whilst also studying a combined social sciences degree. I live with my partner who brought me here to her family home town, where her two brothers and two sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, children and grandchildren were born, live, work, educate and raise their families. Consistently Caring to deliver equality to Spennymoor

NEIL GRAYSON [email protected] or 07859811044 I was born in Spennymoor, where I have lived most of my life. I am married with three young children who all go to the town's schools. Currently self-employed and have been for many years, working in and around Spennymoor. Being a local artist, Spennymoor's history and heritage features a lot in my paintings and is a topic I am very passionate about. I believe Spennymoor's iconic buildings should be saved instead of being allowed to be demolished to make way for more houses, houses that are being built without green spaces and play areas for the children that will live on these new developments; also they are often adjacent to very busy roads without adequate safe crossing points. Having three school age children, I care greatly about our education system that exists in the town, that it is improved, not placed under pressure from the current house building agendas from local councils . The infrastructure in and around the town is not adequate enough to deal with the current population boom, this needs to be addressed. Recent years have seen the continuing downward spiral of Festival Walk. The ruling Labour Town Council have overlooked the ailing shopping precinct for years , the Town deserves better. The Town's people and its children should feel proud walking through the town centre. If voted into local government Festival Walk would be my main priority, it needs turning around and improving for the good of the town and its people. With your help, I want to change the dynamics of the way our town makes decisions. Spennymoor Town Council needs people who will put local needs before Party Politics. Consistently Caring to deliver equality to Spennymoor

Concerns we have identified locally: Roads, traffic and parking. Schools Public transport Street cleaning Durham Gate, Watson Park, Electrolux Estates access and amenities. Town Centre regeneration, access, parking, Festival Walk. Childrens recreation and youth services. The list goes on. The 2 existing County Councillors have between them, in the last 4 years received in allowances in excess of £160,000. We believe they have not worked for our community and have not delivered value to Spennymoor. Press releases and photos have been many but delivery has been poor. Your support and your vote can deliver change. We appreciate that as busy people, proximity to polling stations and time on polling day may be short. Take just 5 minutes to register for your postal vote which will be of benefit to us all. Your vote really does count. We believe that local politics should be about local issues within our community. Spennymoor Independents work as a group but without a party line to follow, we do not follow the lead of a national political party. However where a national problem affects us at a local level, such as housing, we will be vocal.
